View Full Version : [Theorycrafting] 4x shockadins and 1x tankadin?

I was thinking of adding a paladin to each of my acounts, with the idea that it'd be awesome to boost alts on any account if I have a paladin on the other 4. Yeah, I only really need 2 for it, but it got me thinking. Holy Shock does some pretty good damage, is instant cast, easy to stock up on +spell damage and +crit plate gear, and NOBODY will expect it, they will be too busy with either "LOL" "WTF" or something of the like. 4x holy shock crits (i forget that the spell is called to auto crit) would make for an awesome "I win" button x4. Hell, for PvP, imagine it x5.
I don't think there's much utility after that, cause of the long cooldown. But with plate and decent melee, it might work pretty well. you also have 4x healers. You could spec 1 deep holy and make him the primary healer, and plan the builds around the group (only 1 needs imp sanct aura, etc) with all pallies with the run speed talent, you could chase down people pretty quickly.
I think I just might try it...

The general problem I see with it is that you tend to suck badly until you get full epics. At least, that's what I gather by reading some of the forums regarding DPS-adins. :P Hell, worst case, you're unique and nigh-unkillable in PVE. :P

I think being nigh unkillable would actually be a good way to go for multiboxing, especially when starting out. You get more time to figure things out, and therefore less frustration. As a tankadin, I ran into a horde paladin in SM, and we fought to a standstill, so I can see the utility in being hard to kill. I'm definately going to go try it. Maybe i'll make them all draenei, 5x GotN could go a long way! And I can make a "seal/judge" macro that judges with 5 unique judgements. I can make a "taunt" cast sequence macro to keep mobs confused, further enhancing survivability. 5x consecrate should tear things up. 5 auras, 5 blessings, everyone can self heal....

It's really too bad you can't get frisbee + lolshock both... avenging wrath + trinket + frisbee + holyshock x 5 could quite possibly 1-shot people !

How deep into each tree do you need to go? Maybe WotLK and lvl 80 would be enough? I'll have to add it up. I'm guessing not though
edit
aww, looks like you'd need one more point at lvl 80 to get both. That would be a killer build. I really think you would be unkillable.
I've already thought it through myself awhile back. You'll still need to be doing alot of melee damage even with shockadins. It could be fun but wouldn't be really viable till you get to outlands and actually really start being able to get some good gear for it me thinks. I dropped the idea though when Blizzard reitemized ret paladins. I was thinking of going with 2 handed shockadins stacking Strength/ Spell Damage but they changed all the Ret gear to phase out spell damage so know you'd have to go after more enhancement shaman gear, at least when you got to epics anyways. That's my 2c.

Do a prot/ret pally with sanctity aura and improved judgment of crusader + disc/holy nuke priests instead :)
This will give you a lot of boosted holy damage :)

That sounds pretty cool. Plus I already have a holy priest, so I'd just need to either respec a paladin, and roll 2 more priests, or roll a ret pally and 2 priests. What would be a good race combo? All Draenei? All Human? All Dwarf? I'm thinking some Draenei might be nice, at least 2, so they each get aura, plus an additional HoT. They look kinda funny on horses tho... Man, now i gotta start theorycrafting on priest builds..... I know paladins better which is why i was thinking of that first.

This will give you a lot of boosted holy damage :)I'd actually go with a shockadin rather than a ret pally tbh and make the shockadin the full time healer for the prot pally the priest can just HOT everyone else up.. I was going to roll this team awhile back for a utility team with the idea of AOE'ing lowbie instances for cash but I ultimately choose 1 prot 3 mages 1 priest. I think this team setup would be fun though.

I found this thread http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t11091-priest_holy_smite_dps_viability/p3/ which is very insightful. It got me thinking, cause in my main group I have a prot pally, holy priest and a mage, so I already do a lot of AoEing for easy stuff, and it's a lot of fun. I also got another pally I can throw in the mix, so all I need is a 5th. Would another holy priest be good here? Or should I just go with another mage? Mage would give me more DPS (or would it? with sanct aura?) but priest gives more aoe healing. My group is only 28 currently, so it's hard to gauge, (other pally is 48 ) but I run OOM if i'm not careful.
Its an interesting idea, but I don't think it has much potential. Multiboxing Melee classes is awkward, and at some point each of your shockadins have to melee... 5 Concencrates sure would be nice tho.
My PvE group is comprised of a Prot Pally, 1 Priest and 3 Mages. I routinely farm Pre TBC instances by running through and frost nova + concencrating every time my concencrate cooldown is ready. This locks the mobs down into the concencrate (building all aggro on the paladin) while the group moves forward to aggro more things. The Priest rotates HoTs to keep everyone topped up, and when Im ready to burn things down I wait for it all to get to me (Line of Sight FTW) and Concencreate + Arcane Explosion everything down. Works really well.
I have less success AoEing with this group in Heroics, I regret not rolling 3 Warlocks instead, as Seed of Corruption is more multibox friendly than Blizzard.

incidentally, I have 3 locks, it was more of an accident, cause I wanted a second paladin to boost chars on my main paladin's acount, and I happened to have 3 lvl 10 locks, so I brought em along with the pally for boosting runs in deadmines, and the group stuck, and are now in their mid 40s. Can't wait to do seeds....
My main team has a druid and a shaman, and when I'm AoEing with my paladin/priest/mage, I mapped the same key on those 2 to do regular melee, and in doing so, I am getting the hang of PvE multibox melee. I just run slightly past the mob, and the alts on /follow are perfectly in range. Sometimes I need to re- apply follow, but for the most part, it works out really well. A lvl 28 balance druid doesn't add much DPS when casting, but he does as a kitty. I'm still working on getting the most ouf of my diverse group, and trying to resist the urge to just multiply a particular class, cause I want to challenge myself! (I will do the doubling up later on, after I have some 70s to farm some more gold.)

What would be great is a x5 bubble hearth macro.
Edit: I have a 50 something alliance Pally. Its parked in TM, I log on just to run in to TM gather up a gaurd or two and tank it waiting for the horde to come. Soon as they start hitting me I bubble hearth back to south shore and log out. Thats all I do with that toon lol.
While bored on my mage I used to head to nemmy in STV, find a lowbie I could 1 shot, Sheep him then hearth. I always thought that was funny.

Only problem I see is actually dealing damage when you arent casting spells..like spamming follow and move and dealing with rogues etc
