I'm 5k honor away from my Merciless Gladiator's Gavel or Spellblade...I don't see any difference between the actual stats on both weapons so I'm assuming it's to allow for different classes to be able to have access to a weapon with the same stats and shaman are able to learn both mace and dagger. So this choice is going to be for appearance in my shaman's case?

Enchants...was definitely going to go 5x +40 spell damage but since this will be my first honor upgrade (vs. the rep pvp blues) I still have a lot of honor and arenas ahead of me to get geared up. I've been considering using the new Deathfrost enchant x 5 instead, has anyone done this on their teams? How often does it proc and would you say it's better for pvp than the straight +40 spell damage?

On a side note, was having a tough time swallowing each and every EotS bg I went into, as a new set of 70's my +damage was just under 400 on each and under 100 resilience as I have only 3 of the rep blues. Out of the first 18 marks I got only 2 were winning games and 12 were losses. It really pissed me off because it was usually voiced in /bg as my fault for the loss and yet there would always be 2-4 Alliance following me around and sitting there on their mount (right next to me) while a rather large gang of horde killed my group. Then last night...a friend I made while levelling asked me to queue up with his pvp guild, a long established pvp guild on Moonrunner, and we proceeded to win the next 3 out of 3 EotS's in a row, no one following me around, everyone fighting and it was fun!

Deathfrost enchant is somewhere between Fiery and Mongoose.

It procs off melee and spell casting, but not range attack at the rate of 1 proc every 21 to 28 seconds.

Each proc does upto 150 Frost damage and subject to 1.5x crit damage from spell crit.
It does 15% melee and spell casting speed debuff for a few seconds.

It sounds ideal for Elemental shamans since they nuke a lot. But I have put on 40 spell damage before the enchant was available.
I might consider it if I get the enchant learned on my pally.

p.s. I took the Gavel simple because it kinda prevents my Resto Shaman from sticking out of the pack. All 3 shamans have a mace and one of them is a healing mace.

I just bought the maces for all of my guys (minus the druid, who got the war staff). It was purely an aesthetic choice for me. I just like the look of the maces better. As for enchants, I opted for 40 spell damage all around.

Don't worry - when you get more spelldamage you'll clean up in eots even when bad teammates. Our BG is known to lose EOTS on alliance and I end up winning 90% of the games I'm in. I used to lose them all and get yelled at. Now, with 950 spell damage each - it's always gg. Just hang in there and don't let the naysayer get you down. They are always looking to blame someone.

By the way - +40 spell damage is 25% better than deathfrost enchant. Some guy did the math for elemental shaman on elitists jerks.

I got gavels with +40 spell damage on them all.
Then i went into kara a few weeks later, and now i have 3 of 4 mindblades all with +40 spell damage
Nothings better than +upto 200 spell damage of enchants on all your characters.

i've read that the gavel has higher durability than the spellblade. just a small thought.

Sound like we are in a silimar situation but i would guess you are perhaps a couple of weeks behind me as i had this issue too. I've found in Eots that if i start off by helping cap one base then moving across the map to the other, i can either kill anyone that comes over the bridge, if they attack quick, or i can destroy the 2nd base i go to cap because i can cast upwards through the ground killing people before they realise im even there. You can do this on every base in Eots and its a great way to ninja cap and kill. Also you rely on having a half decent team with you :)

I've also found that i win far far more AVs now due to taking a defensive role on Galv then taking back towers.

It all comes together after a while. Gear makes a massive difference and +spell damage * > all. Im on +580 Spell damage now with S1 mace, shield, s2 head, shoulders, gloves. Aiming for legs and chest over the weekend which should see it go up more. Also need to farm the totem of the void and do some more kara with the guild and get the badge trinket 4tw.

So far arena has been useless, i think i've only managed to kill about 2 people in 20 games :) But the new gear should help close the gap and i can already see myself being harder to take down. i.e. i used to panic like mad if a couple of rogues or druids appeared. Now i react quite calmly to the situation with warstomp, bloodlust, totems, topping up health then pew pewing them down. With so many abilites at our disposal, its only practice that makes perfect.

For AV if I go defensive it seems that we consistently win/lose by resources. The people in my battlegroup seem unable to understand the idea of holding a GY or any type of offense at all. If I rush to the aid station it makes for quicker games and a better chance of winning. If we can get into the general's room even with 1 marshal up elementals + bloodlust mean the general dies very quickly. Though when I am on defense I rack up a ton of kills :)

Nice, you guys are lucky to get to go to Kara, I hope I can take my shammies soon, I've had a couple invites for taking 1 but declined since my +damage was under 400, didn't want to be a liability. Now I'm closer to 550-580 ish and more if I flask I suppose, definitely in the range I used to go in with my single lock a while back.

@Tizer, I went through 10 losses last week figuring I would get a rating reset with S4 and start fresh this week with 1 or 2 new pieces of gear. Took down 2 total people out of 50 in the 10 games, LOL. I bet the other side was happy to see me over and over, think I only played 3 different teams Monday night.

@Nepida, I started playing defense at Balinda and it really messes up the horde strategy on our battlegroup, they have in the last few weeks been hardcore defending the FWGY choke point for Alliance to get to RH so after defending Belinda and the waves of Belinda attackers either die off or I die then I've been going up to the choke point at the bridge and defending that. It has always come down to a resource fight at that point and we've won and lost doing that but it's been fun as hell and good practice too. It's becoming more of a strategy game now for me than an in & out honor grind.
