Hey everyone =) I have been multi-boxing 5 shamans in the last month and hit lvl 60 on them
the performance has never really been a problem but when I walk in shattrah it takes 10 minutes to get from the inn to the flight master :P
This is not really a problem as I wont come in TOO crowded places allot but I would still appreciate any tips everyone has on improving my performance! =)

My 4 slaves are running lowest possible settings and on 5 fps background

My computer specs
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
3.072 Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8600gt
and I run on a 21 inch monitor

Any tips that will help are greatly appreciated!

I run basically the same system, but with a c2d@3.4ghz.. your main drawback is that video card... if you can bump up to even a 8600GTS... the GTS is a HUGE bump over the gt... OR go get a hd4850 since they are under 200.. that would help a ton.. in shat alot of the problem is HD access and video card loading textures for the tons of toons....

You shouldnt have problems really unless you are in a main city.

Just bump your graphics down on all the wow accounts that you have to the minimum. If you are running 4 accounts on one computer you are not here for the looks anyways.

Just bump the graphics down all the way close any other background programs.

If you are still running slow after this partition your windows to its own partition and partition your wow to their own partitions.

I run 4 on my laptop and the only problems I get is loading into a new zone or loading into a city.

Yep my main problem actually is when my wows have to load allot of people, like when I see 40 horde coming in AV or when going to the fp in shattrah.
It then lags like hell because it has to load all the characters on 5 wows, so in that case upgrading my video card would be the best option? any advice?

Hey everyone just wanted to say that I followed everyone's advice and read everything on this website and now I am up and running. I am playing three mages, Octalevia, Leliva, and Olevia, all undead of course. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for all the great tips and info, this website is great. I also got my husband into it, he is playing three shamans and he is loving it. My mages are only level 10 right now, but I am having so much fun !

I cant believe Blizzard hasnt jumped on the dual-boxing thing. Amazing that people are now just learning about boxers and this website. Gratz on all of those who have taken the steps to improve their game.

Still need advice on what graphics card to buy, current one is 8600gt and having major lag when having to load allot of characters like in AV or major cities.

that can also be due to the amount of system memory you are using. figure about 750m per wow instance... so, 5x wow == 3 to 4G of memory

also, graphic detail and your fps settings can have a major impact on load performance

I have all the graphic details on the alts set to the lowest possible, and on my main they are like medium.
Maxbackfps is 5, and I have 3 gigs of ram.
and it never seems to use 100% mem, only like 80% so I think I just need a new graphics card, im not sure tho!

I found when i set my clone's /maxfpsbk to 10 or lower, they would come off follow quite often. I currently run with maxfps 30 on main and maxfpsbk at 15. When I know Orgrimmar is gonna be bustling with people, before I run into the entrance i will take all my clones, zoom into first person view and have them looking directly down at the floor.

That way there's really not much that needs to be drawn on my clones, and I run up to the mailbox/auction house without issue, and everyone following along.

Shattrath is another story all together...I wish we could turn off some of those hundreds of damn NPCs.
