Hi everyone.

After my first attemt at dual control (AHK) yesterday, I decided today to try myself at 5 boxing after creating 3 free trials.
Even though I'm no beginner at programming or macroing, I want my first 5 man team to be something simple where I can use the same macros for all 4 alts, so I can experiment more around how to build up the macros and see the effect of them.

I am thinking about mages or warlocks, as they are the classes that fits my own playstyle, but I'm having a hard time making my final decision.
I tried 2 warlocks last night and found it to be fun, and I'm thinking that with a team of 5 warlocks, I can get 5 different dots up on a mob by using a castsequence macro that's a little different for each toon. (Mostly to practice creating varied macros)
However, I'm not experienced at playing warlock, and my highest warlock is lvl 20, so my thought and question is:

Is it better to create a class you know in depth, to know the spells and how they work, or is it better to start with a class you have a little less knowledge of, allowing you to learn the spells by experimenting?

I want a 5 man team of the same class, mostly to make it easier for myself to have the same macros for all characters, allowing me to 5 box without having to do too much micro management from the start..

Does this sound like a good thought, or should I go straight into a 5 man team based on the standard 1+1+3 concept?

You should do whatever is the most fun for you. There is no reason why you can't make more than 1 team. ;)

Only do PvE, so I've found that I liked the 1-1-3 setup, but I've recently started a new group where all 5 classes are different.

Try it out a few times..see what you like best.

Hehe.. ok.. thanks..

But I'd still like more feedback on this :) Suggestions, thoughts etc..

Playing a class you know is a double edged sword.

You know the class intimately so will have a good playstyle to begin, have a good idea of spells to use, but by the same token will be waiting for the great abilities you get later on (which may actually ruin the fun factor a bit).

You can choose a class you don't know and play it through to 70, but as you are 5 boxing you may not learn to play the class as well. Survival will be easier, so you wont have that learning curve from deaths, and trying new things to avoid it. Although if you do instances a lot as a 5 boxer (with no high level boosting) it may be that you have to learn the class just as well to handle situations a single player wouldnt normally encounter as they have a healer and tank on hand.

Warlocks are good. Great for levelling. You wouldn't go wrong with 5 of them. However I always think it's better to throw in an additional class in to the mix. For example, If i lack a tank or a healing class for end game I would be tempted to level one of those classes with the warlocks/mages.

Given that warlocks and mages are squishies, it's always nice to have a healer present (Even better if you can keep them constantly soul stoned and get ressed).

I would be tempted to create two teams - 4 mages and a pally healer, and 4 locks and a pally healer. Then I could turn one of the pally healers into a tank in end game and have team formations to play around with for different things.

Thanks a million, that was the answer I was looking for. :)

I have 4+1 level 70 characters at the moment, plus a bunch of low levels, so I guess that as soon as I hit 70 with my team, I can swap and mix a little. Or boost myself if needed.

When it comes to a more "standard" group setup.. which character would you choose as your main screen?
