View Full Version : I can't do it - I just can't play alliance.

No matter what class no matter what starting area, no matter what, I can't seem to level an alliance character.

I've got a warrior to 22 and that's my highest. Even the lure of getting to 70 and being able to play with friends on the alliance side isn't enough. I just can't get over the urge to kill alliance whenever I see one. (And I don't even play on pvp servers).

Does anyone else encounter this factionitis?

Yes, but in the opposite direction!

I've tried many horde characters, and even teams over the years, but the models are all so damn ugly that I've never gotten over level 30 or so ;)

Yep, I just finished leveling a 1x pally, 5x shaman group to 20 on my old alliance server. I just rerolled the pally shaman group on my horde server tonight and ditched the alliance toons. I love horde side and just can't stand all the dumb gnomes. hehe Anyways, it will actually work out better for me since I have 5 level 70 horde chars to support them and 12k gold to spend on them.

Same here, can't play horde. So damn ugly... Get your back straight stupid troll! :)

On the other hand, I can't play draenei neither. Just too ugly. Bloodelve on the other hand might be do-able now I think of it.

Heh - yeah, I know what you mean. I've got a a couple of horde chars about 20, but that's it. I think my problem stems from starting with Ally, so it's a nice comfy feeling knowing where stuff is and having the backup of other chars and friends made on the ally side.

Not tried it with a 5box crew yet - maybe that will make a difference. :)

Yeah, I have found it difficult to play horde, feel like I'm constantly slouching (troll), feeling the urge to graze (tauren), making sure I'm not losing pieces of my body (undead), unsure of my gender (b-elf), or just really badly in need of a shave (orc).

And what's wrong with gnomes?!? They are freakin hilarious. They crack me up whenever I play them. :D Draenei look awesome, n-elves are fine (except the huge freakin ears), and humans are a bit.. awkward but they are far better than their counterparts.

Same here, can't get into horde, lol. I've tried a number of times.

Btw, Draenei females are the best! :)

My original character is now a shelved 70 Horde, and my current "main" is a 70 Alliance on a different server. I'm Multiboxing my various teams on the Alliance server.

I'm hit or miss on it. I liked Horde for the people (If anyone ever wants to play on a server with a great community, I reccomend the Venture Co.). But the 75% chance of winning AV as Alliance in the final bracket is a strong enough incentive to keep me Alliance, lol.

Still though... I troll the forums for my old server a lot more than my new server. I miss the community a lot. :(

I found it easy to level horde but switched to alliance and am having a hard time leveling. Mainly because I have no idea where I am and where i need to go. One thing good about Horde is Ragefire Chasm dungeon. You can go in there at level 8 (not recommended until at least level 10, though) and from there it is pretty much grinding instances and taking a break to do some quests. Before you know it you are in Wailing Caverns then in SFK and turning blue. :) I can't wait to learn my way around alliance!! omg how frustrating!

"Btw, Draenei females are the best!" <-- this is TRUE! I love the cuteness of them and how they cast spells. The best thing I like is that I can create a Draenei Pally and Shamans. No need to use different races.

I'm Horde all the way but I will admit to a couple of things,
Pre-BC
I did try to play a human paladin (because there was no horde version at the time) but couldn't get past lvl 22 or so. I could only play Undead or Orc, the Tauren were just to cartoonish for me and Trolls are just plain ugly, not evil ugly like undead, just ugly. Playing an Undead Rogue constantly made me feel like i needed to stretch my back and sit up straight.
IMO Blood Elf males are proportionally more human in shape then the humans males (minus the ears). I mean look at the humans males, they look like steroid jocks. BE's don't strike me as metro-sexual or gender confused, they just look like they aren't the types to constantly attempt to beat a square into a round hole.

<IC>All alliance look good... when they are taking a dirt nap that is.</IC>

You should consider the QuestHelper addon. It acts like a GPS device does: it gives you routing information on the fly and it constantly recalculates the best quest path to follow (which quests to do first, which flightpaths to take, how long these fp will take, etc.). It even shows you when you still have to turn in a quest for one of your toons!
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/9924/
[edit] But don't forget the change the default 'quest filter' in the menu. Otherwise you don't see paths for quests that are considered too high level for your toons (which is often not a problem since you're multiboxing a whole team when doing a solo quest :P)

I threw mobmap away after I found out about this one.

Questhelper is by far the best addon for wow... just amazing... and i played ally for 2 years.. i like it slightly more than horde.. to the point i might dump my orc team at 70 and make something on ally side (i just can't play squid people though)

P.S. find brian kopp's guide... just like anything else if you look around you can find it for free.. should help out..

Oh my goodness - a new wow condition - Totem Envy.

I never noticed how shabby the orc shaman totems were whilst levelling, but now I've seen the dranei totems I am positively envious.

Not enough to make me swap to alliance side (my little dranei is stuck at 16 forever). Plus I think I should play a class that I can at least spell.

I have many toons on both sides. I love to pvp. for pvp horde takes it for me. less times in gue waiting for bg.

I like that fact Horde are the ulgly under dogs. I can't stand the carebear effects of the allaince.

Then again I like to work for what I get. Allaince seems to QQ more than horde. AV is a good example of this

LOL, totem envy. :) Wish my team had horde totems instead because I like how they look, they seem more natural and was pretty disappointed when I first saw the Alliance totems...but I'll never trade my hawt Draenei female shaman and priest for anything. :) If I could only roll a female Draenei Warlock I'd be very happy, I'd completely stop playing my 70 human lock.

Totally agree. I managed to get a Warlock to level 35 (before the levelling nerf) so that I could play with my daughter (she's 9 and has a 49 NE hunter now). My first 5x multibox team was a classic human pally/draenei shaman group that I got to level 23. But absolutely, I couldn't gag to go any further. I'm quite convinced that overall leveling up with questing on Horde is easier than Alliance, especially on a PVP server since you can get into the mid 20s without ever going into contested territory. Unlike Alliance where you're repeatedly ganked in Redridge Mountains.

I really enjoyed getting my 4 draenei shaman + draenei pali to 30. I played alliance for a long time, but the draenei stuff was all new.

However, I was getting unreasonabally irritated at my guilds progression failures because idiots could not understand how to get out of the way of things that would kill them, or who could not figure out that they had a debuff and would blow up other people, so I just quit raiding.

I wanted to do something copletely different on a different server so nobody would call me to come tank for this or that, so I rolled 5 orc shaman on horde side on a server.

I miss having the pali for the buffs and the tanking aspect she brought to the equation. Concecrate, tank and hold agro vs pew pew stoneclaw totem distractions. I have to admit, I am really learning more about shaman abilities not having the pali, but I miss the convenience... and wisdom. I can't stand those gay looking blood elfs, so I can't bring myself to roll a horde pali as much as i'd like one. It just seems so wrong to put one of them with my bad ass looking orcs. As for totems, I always thought the draenei totems looked odd, I guess it fits the whole space age thing, but I like the horde totems because it goes along with .. well, totem poles! it just goes along with the whole southwestern theme they have in those orc, troll, tauren starting areas. Speaking of starting areas, since I've become so anti-social of late, I am loving all these lowbie horde instances. I did RFC, SFK and WC for the first time ever!

Org gets a little laggy when it's busy, but I only go there to do my business, and then its back out to an instance. It's nice the instances are so convienent. The guys are 27 now so I'm farming RFK now for the sheild and axe off Charlga Razorflank ('http://www.wowwiki.com/Charlga_Razorflank')

I can't stand those gay looking blood elfs,
Well I'll tell ya I love watching my female blood elf run around. My kids though - "daddy, why do you play a girl?" Frankly, if I've got to sit around and look at a toon's backside for a thousand hours, I'd prefer it to be female. My four other toons are male however, so I get to keep my man card.

That's exactly how I feel, which is why most of my characters are female. Except draenei. For some reason, chicks with hooves don't do it for me. My draenei are usually male, with female humans, elves, and blood elves. Males for just about everything else..

<< chun-li in SF and ivy in SC for the win !

horde all the way for me, though i don't mind playing alliance. the real dark skinned draenei are real pretty IMO. human female rogues are also nice. but i mainly like my Belf rogue because her stealth animations are just so good. the animations of draenei and belves are a bit more fluid than the Pre-bc races and the fluidity of their animations is pretty important to me.

currently working on getting 3 orbs of deception for my Belf warlock triplets.... then i shall have my draenei warlock mode :}

i just wish Belves could be druids ugh

I started alliance.. my first mmo.. had no idea what racials were/etc.. I've tried a few times rolling a horde team but without the gold/boosting support of my main 70s just can't do it. Have a quiet hope that Bliz would let you create a premade 55 like the DKs in the future, if you have 70 on the account.. I can dream :)

I have players on both sides and I don't notice a big difference other than how characters look. Both factions and areas have their benefits as well as problems;

Trade chat in Cities. Winner? You've seen trade chat. Do you really think there's a winner??!!

Durotar vs Elwynn Forest. Winner: Elwynn Forest Durotar is gawd awful ugly and boring. Even the map overview is ugly and boring.

Ghostlands vs Elwynn Forest/Westfall. Winner: Ghostlands by far Why? Updated loot

Elwynn Forest vs Mulgore. Winner: Elwynn Forest. Mulgore has too much running to be really enjoyable. Every time I get a quest I think "I have to run way the hell over there?" The landscape is beautiful tho.

Barrens vs Ashenvale. Winner? Tie. More gawddamn running! Both Xroads and Astranaar should have mounts to rent to lowbies while they're questing. Little ponies or something. Astranaar is beautiful with its whimsical motif, but honestly, it's a pretty lonely place. Barrens? I'd like to see Africa IRL, but not in a game. It's almost as boring as Shimmering Flats.

Graveyard run to Darkshire in Duskwood, vs x-roads run to up north to where the harpies are. Winner? Tie!! /pant....puff....too...tired...from running....to decide. /pass out (the rental mounts idea doesn't sound too bad when you think about all that damn running, huh?)

Silverpine Forest vs Wetlands. Winner? Silverpine. Smaller, which makes quests go by quickly.

Meh, now that I think about it, neither side bothers me much.

I really wish Blizzard would implement a faction transfer facility in wow. Even if it was a paid facility.

You could only go to the particular class that you have levelled as, but being able to swap over would be good. Paid transfer would stop it from being done on a whim. Also if you made it a one time per character facility then again it wouldn't be whimsical.

I started out on Alliance as some of my friends from school were playing there. I have to say I was bugging out! Bear in mind this was an RP server.. there was so much hate and aggression, immaturity etc that I just had to get off there. It may have been the server as a whole, but it put me off alliance for good. When I moved server and over to the horde, the difference was amazing :) I think by the end of the second day, I was already invited into a raiding guild that supported me all the way to 60. I may have been very lucky tbh, but the combination of the two has embedded a near paralysing urge to kill gnomes/NEs/Dwarfs and humans on sight (draenei are ok :P )
