Just add the brushthingie that should have come with you "dustsucker" (is this right?) and use it on the keyboard evertime you dust your room, also worthy to note that dust in your computer can actually slow it down, so keeping your computer room as free of dust as possible isn't a bad thing.

unfortunately what we are talking about here is bacteria that can't be cleaned like that :S your best bet, if you can get hold of them are alcohol wipes, usually used to sterilize surfaces in labs etc or a isopropyl alcohol spray. but careful here.. they can remove the letters on ur keyboard if you use it too much :P

I use only OLD OLD ibm keyboards from like 1984... i LOVE them.. they are heavy... they have super loud clicky keys that feel amazing.. and i take them apart a few times a year and soak all the keys in bleach water... and clean the rest of the kb also...

BTW... i work on computers for a living and the shit i see on laptops makes me wanna gag.. i will spend 30 mins cleaning alot of laptops before i touch em... i know what i do with my laptop.. so im pretty sure i know what others do...

I even hate to shake hands.. fucking creeps me out.. that fucker was prolly just pickin his nose.. beating his dick.. wipin his ass... wtf....

First, never, ever, ever, ever use anything that SUCKS on your computer. The air going into the vacuum combined with dust will generate a static charge and has the potential to jump a shock to your hardware that it wont ever forget.

Clean your computer with compressed air, only when off.

Use a chip puller, available at most computer stores to remove your keycaps and really get a good cleaning under them. Most keyboards are very idiot proof, gently pull one key off and try putting it back on before you have a 105 key puzzle with parts you don't understand ;)...

Use a baby-wipe type wipe to clean the keys, they are cheap, and well, not soaking wet so they won't trash your system.

And most importantly, use a splash guard when you wank off, because you'll never get your keyboard clean if you don't.

I would say that keyboards are pretty damn dirty... But most of the time.. its whats in your surroundings everyday at home.. Your body has a good defense to what ever you live in... other wise.. you would be sick every day for being around your computer... Now when strangers come over and use your filthy keyboard.. that's a different story..

me too man, desktops are harder to see whats going on, but as soon as u open them, u can see if the owner wipes the dust in his home, etc. Sometimes is so much dust (i clean them with an air compressor) that i have to do it at distance, lol...some ppl dont even imagine whats inside their boxes, and some that see me cleaning their pc's, make comments like: "oh, theres a bit of dust there..." , and i think to myself: "a bit?"...lloolol

as for laptops the thing gets worse, since they have keyboard integrated :P at first i was cleaning every single laptop, mainly the screen, cause its a amazing how some screens look and their owners dont do sh!t about it. Now, i just dont do anything at all, because ppl dont even bother to say thanks, or to realize: "hey, this is clean".

i've seen almost everything on keyboards, and i hope i dont get to see more :D

i've seen almost everything on keyboards, and i hope i dont get to see more :DI've been working IT since 1995, from 95-00 I was in retail repair and saw a LOT of machines cross my bench... probably 8-10 a day five days a week... in that period of time I saw some pretty nasty machines, but only ONE was bad enough that I flat out refused to work on the machine.

From all appearances the machine was used as an ashtray... the owner was the sort who had yellow stained hands except where the cig sat between the two fingers... that was worn down to flesh colors due to the rapid rotation of coffin nails in and out of his hand/mouth/pack/etc... there was more tar stuck to the inner works of that machine than I've seen on most rooftops!!!

I called the guy up and told him that we simply couldn't work on the machine, when asked why, I advised him that none of our techs wanted to deal with the nasty that was inside it... he was upset until he came and saw the system... what boggles my mind is he stepped outside and lit another cig...

yeah, most ppl aren't even aware of what they are doing most of the time..it's like being right and the rest of the world is wrong. like that situation, i've seen some as well. i've been working on pc's for almost 5 years now, and, like i said above, sometimes its impossible. i laugh a lot alone here at the shop :D my favorite is blame children for the pron in the computer, and sometimes, and this is the best one, the one i always laugh like a stupid, broken laptop's, like...u have plastic missing! and ppl say they never noticed :D

Zanthor, Smokers machines are the worst.... we get them ALOT.. i have a fan that blows the shit the other way from me... and i show them the brown gunk in their machine and try to tell them thats whats in their lungs and they don't give a fuck.. i don't understand smokers:)

Years ago, I used to work at the computer tech bench at Best Buy, and we had some disgusting machines in there. I always wore latex gloves while working on those shitboxes. I swear I must have seen it all - dead ants and roaches, cigarette tar, dust bunnies the size of softballs, melted chocolate, liquor, and other various semi-liquids in keyboards, a case that was *covered* in boogers.. but these two boxes stand out the most:

- The dead rat that was smoldering while caught in the top of the CPU heatsink, and the 1/4 inch layer of marijuana tar that covered every inch of the inside of the case. In case you haven't seen it, pot tar is much thicker, stickier, and funkier than cigarette tar.. and some people think it's not as bad as cigarettes for their health. Heavily cigarette-smoked machines are bad enough, but heavily pot-smoked machines are actually much worse to deal with.

(I love the girls who bring in their laptop, expecting a full repair/replacement after dumping half a liter of coffee/liquor into their keyboard. Yeah, manufacturers will be happy to accept a loss on your carelessness/stupidity. Then they bitch about purchasing an extended warranty, which clearly states that liquid damage isn't covered.)

Thankfully, I'll never have to work another 'customer service' tech job.. there are far too many stupid people to deal with.

omfg! I know exactly what you are talking about. At one of my old jobs we had a computer with the same exact keyboard. Felt awesome and had a cool clicking sound too! I would go out of my way to use that computer. I wanted to steal the keyboard, lol.
