Jeez, you seem to jump prices between the two quite a bit. I would go the quad core route with 4g ram @ 1333. Unless you want multiple displays, I dont recomend getting the newest graphics card since you wont be using its money worth.

Apprecaite it!

I was thinking the exact same ironically, the cost difference between the two is about 300 $ or so. I have no idea about how good these new invidia 280's are so been doing some research on them. My thanks again for your reply!!

pretty good choices, but WoW does not benefit from SLi at all. many will tell you to turn that off for performance boost. quad core is best for multiboxing vs dual extremes, tho there are people that use duals. quads, you can dedicate each account to different cores as well as the OS. it lightens the load on WoW and you get better performance than with dual, everything running from 2 cores vs 4.

Quad core all the way, if you 5 box, you can set 2 accounts to have CPU affinity with Cores 1 & 2 and 3 accounts to have CPU affinity with Cores 3 & 4.

Nothing wrong with 2 GFX cards - I run two 8800GTs (not in SLI mode). Each GFX has it own monitor; 1 GFX runs my main, the other my 4 slaves. (And the new 280's are way too expensive.)

I don't recommend a nvidia chipset motherboard unless you want to do SLI and run Crysis. Too many peeps having too many problems (see my other posts for more info). An Intel X38 is nice and stable.

Oh, and you don't mention an OS, but I use Win Vista 64bit (Ultimate); as this lets me use my full 8GB of ram. A 32bit OS will have trouble with 5 wows as the OS also needs to address the GFX cards memory in its limited space as well...

Enjoy your spanky new machine :D

Definitely the Q6600. All the C2Extreme chips are A LOT more expensive than the Q6600 (more than the $300 difference you anticipated) It is also better at balancing processor loads.

Re: x64bit OS and 8gb ram, perhaps Jafula should look at his resource monitor, because thius topic has been disccussed dozens, if not hundreds of time; WoW is a 32-bit applications and runs through a process called Windows-on-Windows, which is a 32bit emulator. This is the only reason Warcraft will even function on Vistax64, but the side effect is WoW, even multiple instances of it, are still subject to the 4gb cap that XP users are all too familiar with. 4gb is enough for todays version of WoW.

A single GTX 280 card should provide ridiculous performance on any machine running WoW.

I tend toward Wilbur's opinion about alienware, in general, but if it's $1800 for a complete computer, assuming both with 4G of RAM, that second computer is not a bad deal at all. You're looking at near $1000 just for the video cards.

Alienware make sweet as laptops. They are a bit overprice though. And by a bit I mean hugely :P
