View Full Version : Trouble with /follow

I am having lots of trouble with the /follow macro.
It usually never works for me with my triple box. Sometimes the characters will just lag in all directions while other times they may stop following at random moments.
Have anyone experienced anything similiar?

depends on how you are coordinating your triple box.
personally, while using keyclone, i do a /follow and then left+right click & hold to drive to the target... release, target mob, /assist, then fire.
if i were to do a /follow then use keys (WASD) to drive around, my clones would go off in all sorts of directions. i could put WASD on the do-not-pass, but i like being able to spin while in a fight.

Are you tripleboxing off 1 PC or is it 3 completely seperate PC's.
If all on the same PC that could be the cause due to the non main clients receiving much less input from your PC causing them to somewhat lag when they are out of focus.

Its one single machine. Is there any way to fix this?
planning on running two machines later. Will I have the same issue here with two clients on one machine?

you will still find /follow drops occasionally even on 2 PC's. not as often, but it does happen when youre lagging or going through a load area (or your character gets stuck on something).
its much worse running more than one client on one PC, though. i find it helps if you start off moving backwars or walking to get your clients moving and then speed up.. the reason is, if you start off at full speed and theres enough of a delay between you moving and the server sending the follow command to your alts.. you will be out of follow range and they will only take a step or two and then drop /follow. happens a lot on horse.
turn around, move backwards till your clones start moving a bit and then 180 and you should be fine at full speed.. works for me.
also helps to have /follow MAIN macro bound to somewhere convenient and get in the habbit of clicking it a lot.. even when its not really necessary. i click it every few seconds when im engaged and running around spamming nova/arcane explosion.. i rarely use any non-instant spells in PvP (dont like standing still) so clicking the follow macro gives my clones a bump and makes sure theyre still tagging along =)
nothing worse than backing out of a PvP engagement, in battlegrounds, for example.. and then realising youve accidentally left one of your toons behind =(

That made me think about possible ways to have an active, functional /follow get broadcast in some way to your main client and screen so that you'd know if one client was left behind or not.
I came up with pseduo code that requires a bunch of LUA work, if there's a way to get a boolean on /follow and stick it in a variable the moment it gets updated and transmit it to the main characters client, recieving that data and displaying it.

I use the DualBox ToolBox mentioned in the addons thread and found on Curse.
Set the main on the alts and when follow breaks they /w the main.
Where did u find info about "DualBox ToolBox" and what does it do... did a couple of searches but can't find the information you’re referring to. Searched both these forums and curse and didn’t find it
You mind posting a link?

Twobox Toolkit (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7199-1.2.html). Very basic, but the whisper forwarding is priceless and it has potential for lots of development.
Annoyingly, the FollowEnd event seems to trigger every time you START following, and it's not soft-configurable.
If that drives you as nuts as it did me, find "function twoboxtoolkit:AUTOFOLLOW_END()" and remove or comment out the SendChatMessage call in that function. You can do this with any text editor, including Notepad.
You could also just disable the event, but I wasn't motivated to find out if "isBroken" or "isFollowing" are used anywhere other than in generating the message so this is the least impact solution.
I read the comments on wowinterface.com saying that u should use the emot /followme, rather then having each toon do a /follow. Not sure if that would makes any difference for the problem you are experience, but might be worth a try…
