step-by-step basic keyclone setup

first, welcome to multi-boxing... let's see if i can get you to the basics.

for this message, i will assume you have 2 mages, level 1, with nothing in slots 6 and 7 in your action bar. also, i assume you have fireball in slot 2 and frost shield in 3. also, please make sure you are running your clients in windowed mode (in-game, esc, video/windowed-mode) and in 800x600 mode (this is just to start.. play with resolution later). once set... exit, restart and log in both accounts.

you should also not have keyclone running at this time.
i also assume you have nothing else running. no broswer (except this window) and no windows explorer.

you should have 2 wows slightly overlapped with both mages standing next to eachother.

i will assume your main mage is going to be called 'joe' and your clone is 'sam'

click on sam's window.
you need to make 2 macros (esc/macro)
macro 1:
click new
select icon
type follow as the description
click ok
edit the macro body and type this:
/follow joe

click 'new' to create another macro
select a different icon
type assist as the description
click ok
edit the macro body and type this:
/assist joe

click-drag the icon for follow into slot 6 on your action bar
click-drag the icon for assist into slot 7 on your action bar

click ok to save your macro and return to game

test the follow by hitting 6.. sam should turn to follow joe.
on joe's screen... select a target
on sam's screen, test the assist macro by hitting 7... did sam get the same target as joe?

join sam into joes group.
set loot as free-for-all

assuming you're good to this point... it's time to connect up your clones.

run keyclone.
if you have the default settings in place, it should automatically add both wows to it's list. it would say 'world of war..' or something like that.

click on joe.
hit spacebar
both sam and joe should jump (there is something called animation latency you will see.. but both characters are actually jumping at the same time)

hit 3 and both mages should put on their shields

you now have keys passing between 2 clones.

on joe... click on a target
hit 7... look at sam's target.. should be the same
hit 2 and both should cast fireball on the target
repeat 2 as necessary until target dead

hit 6 to have sam follow joe
click-hold left+right mouse to drive to the body and loot

congrats.. you are multi-boxing

ok so i got it to work kinda. when my main walk forward my clone goes backwards and when i turn left it goes right how do i fix that?

I have the same problem, it follows the main a little bit then when u kill mob or two it just goes his own way, if i go left he will probally go right, won't follow me anymore.Anyone know how to fix that? :thumbdown:

hit the follow button again or look into the addons listed in the Wiki to help with that.

All of your clones should have A,S,D,Q,W and E aka your movement keys unmapped. When your main runs you do NOT want your clone getting keystrokes because that will break your follow.

When your main runs you do NOT want your clone getting keystrokes because that will break your follow.I started doing this but the better method would be to leave asdqwe mapped on each of your clones, and set them to do-not-pass in keyclone. That way if, say, your main dies, you can go to an alt and still move him around with wasdqe without breaking the other 3 remaining characters. I do this along with a focus macro so if my main dies I can quickly switch to a new window, use a macro to change the focus to the new char, and wasdqe all still work (only for the current window).

I still leave up/down/left/right set only for the 4 clones as that way I can position them/turn them without affecting my main, if needed.

Thank you Vyndree, This is some of what I was looking for. Having trouble with keyclone passing info and getting macros set up. Not much of a scripting or any kind of "programming" person. Haven't found any in-game boxers to ask for help on Burning Blade. (They don't like to answer whispers) :cursing:

I will scratch everything I set up and try this out to see if I can get my two lvl 1 hunters on the right track.

Step-by-step Basic Keyclone Setup

Firstly, welcome to the world of Multi-Boxing... Let's see if I can get you to the basics.

For the purposes of this example I will assume:
a) You have two mages, level 1 with nothing in slots 6 and 7 of your action bar
b) You have fireball in slot 2 and frost shield in slot 3

*Please make sure you are running your clients in windowed mode (In-game > esc > video/windowed-mode and that you are running at 800x600 resolution (this is just to start with, you can change the resolution later. Once this is set exit restart and log into both accounts.

**Please ensure keyclone is not running at this time (It may also pay to make sure nothing else is running ie: Browser (excluding this window) windows explorer etc)

You should have two WoWs slightly overlapped with both mages standing next to each other.

I will assume your main mage is going to be called 'Joe' and your clone is 'Sam'

Click on Sam's window. You will need to make two macros (type /macro then hit enter)

Macro 1:
Click new
Select an icon
Type 'Follow' as the description
Click ok
Edit the macro body and type this:
/follow Joe

Click 'new' to create another macro
Select a different icon
Type assist as the description
Click ok
Edit the macro body and type this:
/assist Joe

Click-drag the icon for follow into slot 6 on your action bar
Click-drag the icon for assist into slot 7 on your action bar

Click ok to save your macro and return to game

Test the follow by hitting 6.. Sam should turn to follow Joe.
On Joe's screen... select a target
On Sam's screen, test the assist macro by hitting 7... did Sam get the same target as Joe?

Join Sam into Joe's group.
Set loot as free-for-all

Assuming you're good to this point... it's time to connect up your clones.

Run keyclone.

On Joe click on a target then hit 7. If you look at Sam's target it should be the same. If you hit 2 both should cast fireball at the target. Repeat 2 as necessary until the target is ANNIHILATED.

Hi 6 to have Sam follow Joe. Click-hold left+right mouse to drive to the body and loot.

Congratulations you are now multiboxing. Ensure you read the wiki as well as stikys for more advanced information about multi-boxing.

now that i have formatted and reloaded vista, when i install keyclone it says expired and takes me to a website to buy it again

I purchased keyclone the other day and it works great on a 1 machine setup. Can I get it to work on a 2- machine setup? I have a windows box and linux ubuntu box setup, running right next to each other, each with its own monitor. I have WoW setup on each machine and want to be able to dual-box the 2 accounts together. Is this possible?

yes, as long as you are running keyclone under the windows emulator on linux. then just type in the ip:port of the windows keyclone.. hit connect.. and you should see the connection line on both keyclones (make sure the 2 machines can send data between themselves... watch for firewalls and subnet routing issues)

what i dont understand with keyclone reading the posts here is when you press the direction keys (W,S,A and D) keyclone should do the same on the second wow account, but if i follow, using these key, break the follow, so i need to bypass these in keyclone. so for this to work you have to be in group, set some macro to follow up or assist and by-pass these in keyclone, if you play 2 toons not of the same class and want only use the second as a healer and dps, then you dont need to bypass, you can run around using AWSD, and just setup some common button to attack and heal the main..

did i explain tis correctly or i am mistaken

yes, /follow will break on your alts if you pass the movement keys ( WASD, arrows, or auto-run ) to your alts.

to resolve this, the most common thing to do would be to add your movement keys to the keyclone do-not-pass list (keyclone/setup/do-not-pass). this will block the keys from going to your alts and /follow will continue working.

don't forget to use the override hotkey (default is PAUSE) while chatting. this stops keyclone from passing the keys... allowing you to chat without an echo. once you are done, just hit the key again.

Is it possible to just clone a few keys? All I need is /follow /stopfollow (or whatever that would be) and /cast Arcane Explosion. I need to be able to NOT move same even if Joe is moving.

Since Wow patch 3.02 came through I have had problems with lag between the main and the following alts. This means the folow is breaking every 5 - 10 seconds, and the alt is often doing the key action noticeably later than the main. Is this a coincidence, or is there something I need to do to get better integration. It was working beautifully prior to patch 3.02 (great product!!)

yes... you can turn the do-not-pass list into a white-list ... at which point, keyclone will ONLY pass those keys on the list

wow's 3.02 patch had a performance hit, which i believe was directly related to the shadows. go to wow/menu/video/effects and slide the shadows all the way to the left. also check your maxfpsbk and maxfps settings.

Well i dont post much, but figure gota give out some credit where it is definately due, Keyclone is an amazing tool and even easy to learn and use for someone like me. (not very good at anything programing wise, or even making a link) I was geting very bored with the game as was to point where all there was to do was either farm and raid, or shoot the breeze. So was going to stop playing. Then a friend who always yapping bout dual boxing ppl, finaly got me when i was going to stop playing, i figured why not sounds like a challange, and if it makes game fun again then i can enjoy it once more. So i came to this site (this is where my friend was getting his gab subjects, even though he only runs one toon) and real all your comments and angles for this. And me being me i went ahead and got 3 acounts to go with the 2 i already had. (only used them so i could enchant my own stuff) Already had a lvl 70 rogue, pally, and mage. So created five new toons, and with the common census being something along the lines of 4 shammy one pally or what not for five boxing, i decided to go warrior, druid, priest, loc, shammy. Soon as i did friends in game said that was big mistake. Well with keyclone doing its thing perfectly, and using macro based controll on all the toons. I spent 2 wks setting up my new adventure. And i only took that long because i wanted to make sure i was set to go from the begining so i could log on my five new toons and go. So read all i could on here and wiki, the day finaly came to begin the carnage. And in true blizard style thats when i open my email and see im invited to the lich king beta, so thats what i did, lmao. Well eventually i got going and i have to say its brought new life to the game for me, and controling an entire party is extreemely rewarding once you get your style worked out. With lich king out, im now on my mains again getting back to raid status in guild, but soon as that set, wich were goin back in raid mode for lvl 80 this wknd, when not raiding ill be back on my five toon team, and i cant wait, as i have used what i learned and am boxing my pally, mage, rogue combo up to 80 its just mind blowing how rewarding it is if you never have to get a grp for grp quests, and when a guildie cant kill that 74 elite u come on 3 70s and destroy it for them. I will update soon on progress seing as i havent got much time into my five toon team, not much time and they all in 30's, but when i get back to focusing, plan is to get all the ones i got goin to 60 and from there, its 2 teams, one is 4 person, and other is 3, as i have seven toons coming up boxing style now. Figured if you are going to do it might as well get one of everything. Happy boxing everyone. 8)

if you like the pally+4 shammies combo for pve... try pally+4 mages. the pally will pull and hold aggro while the mages arcexp to clean up. they group might be light on healing, but it'll kill VERY fast.

don't forget to post some screenies of your crew as they grow up in the screenshot section.

but i have 2 big questions :
Nr 1: taking and returning quests? do i have to take them with main and then with the others? i cannot seem to configure the mouse so it does the same on all chars.
Nr 2: looting.I cannot open loot windows with all chars, 3 in my case.
also sometimes the assist macro stops working.

Any help is apreciated thanks alot.

yes, you'll still have to click on all wows to loot and turn in quests.

but... using the mouse-click-passing hotkey can allow for keyclone to click the same (scaled) spots on all screens. this is meant as a toggle on... use it... toggle off type of option. anything else won't do what you'd want. the amount of normal, single screen type, clicking is pretty high... and click passing would normally be used less then 1% of the clicks.

but when i hit frost armor only my main mage does frost armor but clone just stands there do i have to macro that spell or have i not set keyclone up properly ??? plz help me out as im stuck on this and just started boxing :)

howdy frisk and welcome to the forums!

since you hit spacebar and both jump, that shows that both wows are being managed by keyclone and keyclone is passing keys. good.

hitting the '3' and only one mage pops a shield is a bit odd. first, please make sure both wows have the same action on the '3' action bar slot. spam the '3' and you should see it flashing on both. if not... then the '3' is not passing. check keyclone's do-not-pass list (keyclone/setup/do-not-pass). is there a '3' in the list? is white-list checked? (uncheck if it is)

also, if y ou are on vista, did you run keyclone as administrator? (right-click/run-as-admin or set the property on the shortcut)

I have two e-mail addresses, and I can't remember which one I used to register Keyclone. I have done a search, but I can't find any e-mail correspondence regarding keyclone from your site (I'm sure I'm not using the right parameters, as I am certain I have registered the program). How would I go about sorting that out? I am having trouble getting the version I have to close properly (1.8 or so), such that I have to close the process manually from the task manager, and would really like to update it.

I am quite enjoying having keyclone but I do have one question. I am running two wow's on one computer & monitor in the 3 toon screen (I like the look of it better then split screen and p2p) not sure if this is needed information or not for my question but I figured I would let you know.

When I first log onto wow my keystrokes are mimicked on my slave perfectly but once I use the mouse on the slaves screen once I have to constantly click on it to activate her keybindings.Its as though each account has thier own keybord that only works when I click on thier region/screen. Is there a way to use the mouse to click what you need on both account screens without taking away the simotanious keystrokes to both toons?

to pass the mouse click, you will need to enable to the mouse-click-pass (MCP) hotkey found under keyclone/setup/general. when you toggle it on, you will hear a tone... move your mouse and you'll see a cursor on all your wows showing where the click will go. click, wait a split sec, and it will click all screens. by default, it will toggle itself off (the option 'one-click-then-off' does this) once you click. you can also hit the MCP hotkey again to toggle it off without clicking.

generally, i would not play normally this way. it is really for a very limited set of things, like blizzard or death & decay targeting. learning to use the keyboard will improve your in-game reaction time and improve how you deal with the various situations that may arise

Are there any parameters I need to change in Keyclone for EQ2? I have not set anything up yet, but am currently at work and want to figure some things out before I start getting everything set up at home.

Here's what I am wanting to do:

2 PCs (Vista64, XP32)
2 EQ2 sessions per box
I have 2 Keclone licenses (1 per PC)

I also purchased InnerSpace, but have not looked for setup guides for EQ2. How exactly are they supposed to interact?

Oh, and one last question--Do I need to have a workgroup set up first between the 2 machines? I have no real need for file sharing, so have not bothered.
