Hi all! Just wondering if I’m the only one in this situation…
I’ve been multi-boxing for a few months now and have all my toons on the verge of hitting up heroics. I came back from a two-week vacation with no computer access and more excited than ever to enter the world of Azeroth and start playing again. And then it happened… Started catching up on the latest WOW news and reality slapped me across the face and put me back in my place.
Now I’m in a rut on determining what is really the most productive use of time since WotLK is lurking in the future. I fell deeper into the lull after reading an article about preparing for the expansion.
Mats and such will become “obsolete” in the sense that trade skills will be using new materials much like BC did. Gear will be replaced rather quickly like in BC except for those with the T4 and such. Badges will become a thing of the past so working ones ass off to get them seems to be a little bit of a waste. The one thing that’s a constant is the need to make money for the expansion with new mount expenses and training.
I’ve always played the game by setting goals and upgrading my toons but now more than ever it seems like I’m just going through the motions waiting for WofLK.
Anyone else feeling like this or is it business as usual for you?
And before you comment, I did post this in the Oprah forums and they said it was too emotional for them to deal with. ;)

for me I play the game to have fun, I know I will be upgrading all my gear over time. I play solo for endgame radeing I have a lvl 70 shadow priest decked out in full T6 Sunwell Gear and I still play her every day even though I know I will be replacing a majority of my gear as I lvl to 80. as for my boxing team well they are still to low to for me to worry much with, but the one thing I look at is this next upgrade will make it jsut that much easer to lvl to 80 and I will get there sooner. but that is just me. like I stated I play this game for fun.

I'm taking the time to learn how to do instances and PvP 5boxing. having a blast! Also trade goods wont be obsolete right away..in fact they will go up in value until people skill up and its been out for a few weeks. Ill have stock piles of everything to skill up on and sell.

I look at it this way.
1 Prot Pally + 2 Ele Shaman + 1 Resto Shaman defending Stone Hearth Bumker.
Before any honor gear, 1 warrior would come up and survive my first volley of EM + trinkets + NS + CL.
Last weekend, it's like I casted Disintegrate. 1 warrior dead, and 1 mage + 1 warlock half dead just from the opening volley. 3x shocks finished the warlock. The mage kept casting against my grounding to be met by LBolts...
Now, I can't wait for the new S4 honor gear upgrade I'll be getting.
It's not about getting level 70 and getting the uber gear. It's about doing something with the gear along the way.
I've seen some friends who likes to raid and complains of getting bored after getting a full T6. I told them, did you even use those gear to pwn face?
I tell them, I get a 10 spell damage increase and I want to see if it disintegrates noobs faster with a smile on my face. :D

I'm using the time to get alts up into my main group(s) and do a little arena and practice working in 5mans alone and 10 mans with others. I feel your pain though...being so close to an expansion with a max level increase is depressing because you know you're going to have to do it all again when it comes to levels and gear. I don't approve of blizz's vertical expansion plans (I prefer horizontal expansions, a la daoc where you get better gear or side powers without changing the max levels), but it's their game. My big project right now is getting my tanks up to be able to run with my shamans and priests, and I'm going to drag some others along with them so that I end up with a slew of 70's I can then pick and choose from when the expansion comes out. Right now I have:
5 70 Priests
4 70 Shamans
1 70 Mage
and I plan on adding from my current group:
1 70 Pally
1 70 Warrior
1 70 Druid
1 70 Warlock
1 70 Shaman (this spot is tentative
This should give me a plethora of options that I can use either in my own 5 mans, running with others, 10 mans, tanking, healing, dpsing, pretty much whatever I ever want to do.
Keep in mind from what Blizz has said that the differences wont be AS drastic going from BC to WOTLK as they were from pre-BC to BC in terms of gear. I'm not sure about money, but never hurts to make money. I'm waiting on epic flyers as they may drop the price or make gold that much easier to get.
Anyway, hope thats some ideas for you.

Gear has never been my goal. I use gear as a way to boost my game play. Its never even crossed my mind that it's been a wasted effort when gear gets disenchanted for an upgrade.
I guess people play the game for different reasons.
I'm not up to doing heroics on my 5 shammies yet but I was blown away that I could start farming Totem of the Void, thanks to the video help from Kicksome. Yeah I died a few times but I was able to get my first of 5 totems in quest + rep pvp gear. I'm looking forward to still doing heroics with them as soon as I can regardless of WotLK coming out because it's all about practice, that's why I've done many of the collection quests while leveling, it was practice for me in controlling the team. I see doing heroics the same, plus even if you farm heroics and upgrade a couple of pieces with badge gear you'll be ahead when Wrath hits. I think it was in the latest Blizzcast where they talked about the gear in Wrath not resetting quite so quickly at 70 like it did with TBC at 60.

I guess you do not worry about gear as much when you have grinded for 5 months to Get HWL or GM and have the best gear in the game. You own all but its not as fun any more because its not you its the gear. Soon you don't play those toons as much . its just toooo easy to kill them all.
I love to 5 box with greens blues or S1 gear and own teams of t6 and S3. its not the gear , but the gear helps a lot.
I dont like easy mode. Never did never will.

The real question is: What do you enjoy in playing wow?
If and only if your answer to that question is "being the best A/having the best Y", the expansion may be a problem for you - because with the increasing amount of time you spent to improve your gear further and further you might not have enough time to reach the max before the expansion.
However, that can also be positive if you don't put yourself under the pressure and just play and do what you enjoy. I personally try hard to do just that. I do set myself in-game goals and go after them, but I may also just stop chasing them and do something entirely different if the mood strikes me.
We do not know when the expansion will come. My guess would be Q4, maybe November. We all know however, that it might just as well be January or February. My advice is - don't stress yourself. Plan a month or two ahead, but leave it at that, odds are you are just wasting your time due to uncertain data.

Well, personally I do not care if or when Wrath of the Lich King is released. It still is a few months off (probably late November or early December) and thus I decided to level a PvE team on the Alliance side with my dream combination of classes and equip them in heroic badge gear until they hit best gear. I'll not upgrade to Wrath of the Lich King before this is done. The only thing I do for Wrath is to watch the announcements for a mention of a collectors edition.

Personally I just pretend WoTLK isn't around the corner.
I do stuff I enjoy. If gear comes from it I'm pleased. If i improve my survivability in PVP I'm happy.
the only problem I see is if have got the best of all gear (which isn't going to happen).
When wotlk comes along I'll have more scope for gearing up.
The economy will change - but let's face it after 2.4 I saw a big jump in prices on a lot of things just because there was so much more money floating round.
Personally I want to get as many 70's as I can for wotlk. (I wont have a shaman team there) but If I can have 5 seventies, control 3 and have my kids control 2 (It's their characters) then I can run instances in Outlands, and then move to instances in WoTLK.
I think the best thing to do - is avoid reading what is coming out in WoTLK. Saves a lot of problems :)

I tend not to buy the idea that the current mats will be obselete. They will, for a time, be on the back burner but have you tried to buy a small radiant shard lately? 2 of my 5 are 50 and 63 respectively so I still have plenty to keep me busy before the Lich King drops bad on us.

Been there, done that. ;)
I'll kick back and enjoy civilian life, thank you.Quote FTW
Aslo with my levelling rate, I really want to get at least one team to 70! This means the longer the wait the better.
@OP why not roll some Alts, the new levelling mechanism makes it a lot of fun, Multiboxing is a bit of a ding fest and with the summer Fire Festival levelling is even qquicker
