http://taksi.sourceforge.net/

Taksi is a video capture/screen capture tool for recording 3D graphics applications (such as games). It can capture almost any windows application using DirectX, OpenGL, or GDI and create an AVI file using any installed VFW codec or still frames in PNG.

Open source but windows only.

May be easier to use than VLC and unlike FRAPS, can encode in real time.

VLC can do this also - search for my other posts on the subject.

I have not yet personally tested Taksi but it has a positive reputation and is open source.

Audio is not captured

I know a lot of people just overlay music on their vids. Just wanted to point this out.

I like to capture ventrilo/skype/microphone input in videos for various purposes so that's a minor problem. I'm going to give it a shot with my dualcore system in a few games and report back.

Actually, I'm not, because I can't come up with any good way to benchmark it. I can't even get it to work properly, seems to record for around 800 kilobytes and then it takes a big dump.

Imagine if there was a way to let the ATI AVIVO hardware functions handle the realtime encoding with this? Hmm. Shame the project looks abandoned.

does it capture your entire screen or just one window like fraps, gamecam, etc?
