there is a slight problem with split screen if you do it vertically. I think the game itself usually supports at most a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen) but running each at 1280 x 512 means ur stretching the game by roughly 40% outside its display capability.

Is rotating your screen on it's side a possibility? If not, horizontal split might be an option.

Or make the individual clients 910x512 and set the in game resolution to the lowest wide screen option. this does mean you will have parts of the screen where you can see through to your desktop, but you can always fill this with a musicplayer or a DVD in miniature :P

sometimes when u adjust it with maximizer, the client will stretch itself like a 4:3 on a 16:9. this is normal. what i was trying to say, is that, at least with me, if i change the res ingame, it will adjust itself, even if it's 800x600, it wont be so stretched again. It may require a restart of the game.

I think what he's asking is whether there's a way to make the game maintain the correct aspect ration even if you resize the window to non-standard formats. I don't know of a way to do this for side-by-side windows.

In my Config.wtf file I use

SET gxResolution "1280X512"

And it works just fine, although I use it in windowed mode.

Hmm...I'll give that a shot tonight.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I'm just quoting. Paragraph 4B of the Terms of Use says, "You agree that you will not (i) modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Program or the Service..." Has Blizzard ever said, "Well, when it comes to the config file, we don't really mean what we said"?

Since you can type that command while in-game...

What about modifying the file with a text editor? That's what I thought he meant.

yes it did sound ridiculous and since I've had a bad day and had a few beers I'm going to bite.

If altering the config file is against ToS then well I guess I'm plum out of luck. I had to alter it to disable certain items in order to get it to work with linux.

I define a program as an executable file. A configuration file is a file the executable looks at in order to set certain parameters.

Blizzard can obviously define the 'program' as anything they like, it's their ToS and their game.

To define a configuration file as a program or part of the service? i think thats stretching it a bit even by their terms. If it was then why does this ('http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=285139220&sid=1') thread exist? (giving links to websites that tell you how to alter the config file)

Not to mention programs or addons that alter it for you.. ie.maximizer...

Sorry about your bad day. If I were in your shoes I wouldn't worry about this for a second. I only asked the question because people frequently ask whether my program violates Blizzard's rules, so I'm getting into the extremely regrettable habit of viewing everything through the prism of Blizzard's Terms of Use. Not because I think you should worry about it, but because I need to. People have asked me to add a feature to my program that can modify WoW's config file, so it has been on my mind recently.

I shouldn't have inserted this question into your thread. It popped into my head and I posted without thinking. My apologies.

I agree with you completely that Blizzard's interpretation of these words is the only one that matters. Nonetheless I have to start by reading them myself because there's no other place to start, and I can't help interpreting them differently than you do because to me a config file is very much part of the program whose data it contains. As a programmer it would never occur to me that it's not. So I'm wondering if Blizzard ever said anything about this explicitly.

Thanks for the link to that Linux thread. That's a good bit of evidence that some Blizzard employees, at least, thought that TOS 4.B. doesn't apply to the config file.

I'm not sure about Maximizer. I just looked at its source code and I don't see anything in there that reads or writes the config file, but maybe I'm missing it.

I don't think you need to appologize. It's good to keep us all on our toes so we don't get into any trouble. ;)

i actually had the same question as the OP. i am using a 4:3 screen and trying to go top and bottom. i am using maximizer. when i try to edit the config file it always defaults back to original. i am using the keyclone launcher. the picture is all stretched so things are much wider than they should be. makes it hard to play =). what should i set things to, to make it so they are clearer?

thanks in advance!
