View Full Version : How do I prevent Main Action Bar buttons from conflicting with macros on BottomLeft Action Buttons 1-12

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere else. I searched the wiki, stickies, and other posts here in this section I thought was relevant but did not find a satisfactory answer to this specific question, or if there was one and I saw it, I probably didn't understand the solution. Could just be my not understanding the whole system, that's possible too, I am mentally challenged like that, but I am muddling through. Any help would be appreciated. Call me a noob or whatever and just point me in the right direction if you can, thanks!

With that said..

I have my 5 shaman set up with all the same spells and totems on their main action bar 1 buttons 1 to = , running out of room, I decided to use the Bottom Left Action buttons 1 to 12 and create macros to do things that we all do, like "Accept". I put the Accept macro on Bottom Left Action Button 12, which happens to be above my Main action button = where I stuck Earthbind totem.

The problem is, when I want to press the macro for "Accept" Shift + = , my alts all accept, and my main drops the Earthbind totem?

I looked at the Key Bindings window, and there is nothing associated to the Shift + <1 to = > , only what I set up on the Bottom Left Action Buttons 1 to 12.

How do I prevent the Main Action bar buttons from getting pressed on my main, when I'm pressing the Shift + key ?

Thanks for the help.

For a quick fix, try to just bind shift + = on your main toon to that same button on Bottom Left Bar and leave the action slot empty?

From what I remember if you don't have anything bound to shift/alt/ctrl 'x' when you press shift+'x' or ctrl+'x' it will just default to 'x' w/o the modifier. This could be pulling information out of my ass as I'm 6 beers into a 12 pack but give it a shot and let us know what you find.

Gurblash has the right of it ;)

If no modified button is bound on a client then it will do the unmodified action.

You need to ensure that all modified combinations used on the clones are bound to something (empty buttons?) on the main

Thanks guys! I think I understand what you've written, for some reason this was un-intuitive for me, I will work on this.

Since I have things on my action bars, Is there any way to assign a Shift+<whatever> to the empty slots on my hidden action bar? I'm talking about the one that you see when you click the arrow down in the interface that's between [=] and [Character info]? I think its called Action Page. I remember you used to be able to scroll through 6 of them, but for some reason I can only scroll through 2. I see in the Key Binding window that there are Action Page 1 to 6 and nothing is bound to it. So I guess you would have to somehow tell it to go to Action page <number> , then Key <number> to bind Shift+<whatever> ? Does that make sense?

Yes you can bind keys to 'hidden' action bars with no drawback.

Thanks, but the question was how?

I see reference to Action Page 1 to 6, in the Key Binding window, but I don't see reference to the buttons on those action pages, I can only scroll from 1 to 2 using the interface.

Action bar 1 is your main bar
Action bar 2 is your secondary bar
Action bar 3 is your bottom left bar
Action bar 4 is your bottom right bar
Action bar 5 is your top left? bar
Action bar 6 is your top right? bar

Esc -> Interface -> Actionbars, enable the ones you wish to test out.

ok, just so we're on the same page so to speak..

When I go Esc > Interface > Action bars, there are 4 check boxes:

Bottom Left Bar ( goes horozontal over the Action Bar 1 , buttons 1 to = )
Bottom Right Bar ( goes horozontal over the buttons to select character, etc, and bags.)
Right Bar ( goes vertical on the right side of the screen, window edge)
Right Bar 2 ( goes vertical on the right side of the screen, inside the one above)

As I said, I already have those enabled, and I have spells on them.

I think those are different then the "Action Page 1", "Action Page 2", etc. listed in the Key Bindings window that are currently unbound. It was my understanding that the Action Page 1, is the current default bar you get when you first make a character that most people use on a regular basis. If true, and there are five more available, I'm wondering how to map a keybind to an empty slot on one of those empty Action Pages?

Has anyone seen a guide to all the things in the Key Bind window? A lot of it is self explanitory, but some of it is obscure, I would love to see some guide that maps out what goes where , or calls whatever, that would be very helpful.

you don't actually need to display them, you can just assign the keys in Keybindings.

if you do want to assign actions to them later you can do so in the default UI by cycling the main action bar through the none visible ones using Shift-up & shift-down arrows (or the arrows to the right of the bar)

For example, when you look at the options available for Bottom Left Action Bar , it gives you the option to click the button and assign a key for each of the 12 positions available. However, there is only one option for Action Page 1 through Action Page 6. There is not a Action Page 1, buttons 1through 12 as I would have expected? From what I see in the window, you can assign a key bind to Action Page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, but there doesn't appear to be a way to assign keys to the 12 slots on those Action Pages, or I'm just missing it , but I've been through the list quite a few times now, if you can see how to do that please let me know :D

PS. I'm not at home atm, but I'm pretty sure I used to be able to scroll through the Action Pages using Shift+2, etc. but last night it was only letting me display the first (default) and second Action Page bar, I couldn't get it to display any others. I wasn't aware of the Shift+up/down arrows, I'll try that later when i get home.

ah. The actionpage keybindings are the buttons used to immediate show the action bar in the base location (where your action bar is on a new character) the defaults are shift-1 to 6

by default these map to the action bars as listed in Gurblash's post
Action bar 1 is your main bar
Action bar 2 is your secondary bar
Action bar 3 is your bottom left bar
Action bar 4 is your bottom right bar
Action bar 5 is your right bar 1
Action bar 6 is your right bar 2 if you look further down the keybindings you will see the bindings for each key on the action bar.

tbh though right about now, I would be downloading Trinity Bars 2 and save yourself a whole heap of hassle. (you can create any bars you want and assign keys straight onto the buttons.
