All of Suvega's and my hardware photos can be found at http://www.wemultibox.com/forums/album.php?albumid=1.
This thread is continued from http://dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=10994#post10994
Suvega and I did some "spring cleaning" recently and rearranged the position of our PCs. Since our last thread ('http://dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=10994#post10994') we've also replaced a few PCs (namely our "main" pcs) with quad-cores.
In any case, onto the pictures which should explain themselves...

as for the new PCs, which hardware did you use?
RAM, CPU, MB etc...?
And how much power do your UPSs have?

I have the old hardware listed at my wiki page ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/User:Vyndree') -- as for the quad cores....

Oh, and...
ifx14-cpu-cooler-50989 Thermalright IFX-14 CPU Cooler 1 $78.99 $78.99
Suvega has a better gcard since he has his big apple cinema 30" display. I believe it's the 9800 GX2? Suvega can correct me if I'm wrong here.
That's a lot of computers in 1 room, does it get super hot in there?
We chose this room as our computer room because it's not heated with the rest of the house. The computers alone generate enough heat to keep the room nice and cozy. If it ever gets cold (and so far it never has) there's a woodburning fireplace in the corner that is just collecting dust.
You need to get a friend or family member to take a pic of you two playing with all computers on, pwning fools in BGs... or something. Action shots please :)
We'll see what we can do when we have friends over -- though I'm not sure "Hey, can you photograph me pwning face in BGs? Kthx" would be very well received ;)
Do the dogs play to? :)
Sadly, the only thing the dogs are known for is running underneath the desks and unplugging Suvega's XKeys.

The important ones are named -- Spike (main PC), Cujo (shuttle PC), Sparky (laptop)... Rex was my old "main" PC.
The 3 acrylic boxes are just named "A", "B", and "C" for a lack of originality. I just can't think of any names that fit.

Do the clear cases suck up and show a lot of dust? My computers tend to be vaccuum cleaners... so much dust sucked up. I wanted to move to acrylic cases, but always thought the dust would be a problem (cosmetic problem of course).
Honestly, my aluminum case from my main PC (Spike) which is about 6 months YOUNGER than the acrylic ones -- had more dust in it.
O.o
Not exactly explainable, but I haven't seen excessive dust buildup in the acrylic cases. Perhaps the acrylic is less likely to have dust "stick"?

I've noticed my aluminum cases attract a lot of dust. Maybe its some weird static field thing. Good info on the plastic though. Honestly I want to move to a compete rack mount setup, but its just sooooo expensive.
Well I will tell you that those little acrylic screws HURT after putting 3 cases together, and it took me twice as long to put 3 cases together than it did for Suvega's 4 aluminum ones.
I do think they look snazzy though.

Looks amazing! Can't believe the cables are so tidy even thou there is 6 more computers more there than there are at my desk! and if you would compare cable mess.. you'd think mine have the most =(
might post some pictures soon, as both hardware and characters evolved a lot !

I think the key to thier success here is that they can actually get to thier computers on all sides. Most people have thier desk up against a wall, with the computers against the wall as well.... The free standing "open" setup makes things really easy to maintain.
QFT. When something goes wrong we just pull out the couch to get easy access to the back of the computer. Beats crawling under the desk. :)

Rackmount either a) doesn't have room for a vid card or b) has heating issues imo.
(assuming you don't have a dedicated A/C like most server rooms)

I noticed you re-arranged the desk so the bottom part of the L is on the outside, any reason why? Also, if you want better tv viewing, you should put the tv in the space between the sets of moniters, might as well then just put a refridgerator behind you and never have to move ;P /jealous

Hah I can't agree more... I've moved my lazyboy out of TV viewing distance solely because I just can't stand to watch any more of my wifes Grey's Anatomy or Bachelor -throws himself off a cliff.-
That said, setup looks PRO imo. The L's are probably on the outside so as to create as much 'useable' sq. footage as possible. Plus allows for ez-chair rolling.

is it at all possile to keep those wires from getting tangled?
do you use zip-ties or those weird velcro things?

Yea, my monitor array originally had little gaps between the monitors so that I could sneak a look at the TV through the gaps. Totally unrealistic.
Now all I have to do is swivel my chair and I have a good view of the TV whenever I'm on a flightpath or doing something monotonous.

Suvega lives for the zip ties. I had originally started with the velcro strips on my monitors because I like being able to change things, but he just zip tied right over it.
Since the ties themselves are cheap, I suppose it's not to bad to just snip off the ties and re-zip them if I ever add new cables or change what's up there.

We got into a fight over this honestly lol
I wanted the server farm idea of really nice clean ziptied to shit setup. She wanted the easy to change velcro setup.
Needless to say, I was like "come on, let it look nice and clean, even if you DO change it, I'll do all the cut tie + zip again"
:P Now I'm in debt for the favor, just waitin guntil she pulls the card on me "REMEMBER WHEN I LET YOU ZIPTIE THE SHIT OUT OF THE COMPUTERS?"

Not exactly explainable, but I haven't seen excessive dust buildup in the acrylic cases. Perhaps the acrylic is less likely to have dust "stick"?Back when I was building more of my own machines and expending more energy thinking about fans and overclocking, the main factor I found with this is how your fans are arranged. Most computers will have more fans blowing the air out than in, which leads to the computer sucking in air through all the cracks where ever it can, which allows it to accumulate too much dust. If you have the option to re-rig a the fan setup so that you have more fans bringing air in through a light filter, you can keep dust out because all the other openings have air being forced out rather than sucked in.
If you're really tweaking it, you can also do some modding of the fans to change the amount of airflow in/out to get it just right.
Also, the other reason this worked is because a properly installed fan is likely to be mounted in such a way that the airflow naturally brings in less dust because it's not coming through the holes and cracks at the bottom of the case. So where the air is entering makes a difference as well.
Hope that helps

IKEA. ;)
They're the "business" desks where you essentially buy the tabletop (we chose two opposite "L" shapes) and legs.
