View Full Version : Best Dual combination!
After siome heavy thought, i have decided im going to Dual Box.
The reason for this, is i have always wanted a warrior and a mage, so i thought "well, a tank and a ranged DPS, use the tank as my main and il have no problems with facing and range. Brilliant!!"
However, i have also thought about doing a 3 man box. The cons are, that if i get a healer, that will need to be my main, and then controlling the warrior would be very hard.
So, my questions are...
Do you think a maghe and a warrior would make a good team?
Or should i make 2 mages for AOE capabilities...
Or should i do a 3v3 team, possibly with a shaman?
Thanks.

warrior and mage is like... the worst combo ever
you cant do anything solo because you got no heal and you cant pvp because with warrior and mage running behind it will be pain
Also if you get a healer you dont have to use it as main. Fix some smart keybindings and macros and it will work almost as good as it would be your main :P
I thought it would be quite good, as the main problem i had with mages was people running into melee combat with you. And with a warrior tanking, it would be much easier.
So what woulkd you suggest?
Warrior + Shaman?

If people are going to run into combat, they are going to run into combat with your mage, not with the 10+K HP Warrior. If you only want to use this for PvP then there are a fairly large variety of classes you could combine, however for synergy its probably best to use two of the same class. For instance:
2x Shadow Priests - Decent DPS, Healing and Some Crowd control capabilities.
2x Warlocks - High DPS, Decent survivability, Pets, Crowd control.
2x Mages - High DPS, Excellent Crowd control, able to burn people down from range very effectively.
For the most part, people tend to avoid using melee classes in PvP Multiboxing, simply because of the extra hassle this causes. However with some thought and decent planning theres no reason why you couldn't use two Rogues to gank people (Total stunlock = win).
It all boils down to what you want to do and what classes you are comfortable with. Try out some characters on the PTR's to see what works, from that you should be able to settle on an effective dual-boxing combo.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to to dual boxing and all, but I find it quite interesting, and I'm thinking of starting too.
I will be running two toons at once (can't afford more monthly costs).
I was thinking of rolling horde, with an Orc warrior, and Bloodelf paladin combination.
I have already tested with dual mages till up to level 8, and dual locks till 6. It's quite easy when you get the hang of it, but I don't really find those classes interesting to play.
I have always wanted an orc warrior (Warlord's shoulders *drool*), and a bloodelf paladin to back him up (looking cool and all) would be amazing.
I have just ordered a new pc, and I think I will be starting when it arrives. Just have to get another copy of wow, and I'll be good to go!
I'll be writing specs and configs later on.
regards,
Keasu

The trouble is they are both melee classes and follow doesn't quite cut it for staying in range on both.
What do you intend to use it for? PvP or PvE?

The paladin will mainly be for support/ healing and such. So the melee range won't be such a problem.
Well, in the end I would be using them for PvP reasons I guess, but I will be seeing that when I get there. It's mainly just to enjoy myself :D
I already brought the paladin to Durotar just now, I will be starting the duo tomorrow for a couple of hours if I got some free ones :)
Rithius and Ogar on Al'Akir if you are wondering :)
if i were going to dual box with a pve focus id run a prot pally and a healer (prob a shadow priest) dual box with a pvp focus would be 2 mages or 2 locks prob 2 locks

1. Mage + Warrior = horrible
2. two mages = 2 sheep = 2 pyros = 2 instant pyros = BAM :D
3. 2vs2 arena gives you nearly no points, 3vs3 is excellent.

War and sham are very fun.
This is what started me 5 boxing. I used to love Enhancement shaman until the 41 talent patch made them gimp. So I started playing a warrior. At level 55 I decided hey how about I have my Shaman respect resto and follow him around with earth shield.
My shaman only 63, in tow I was able to pull damn near the entire first field in EPL. It was a blast to bust out with Whirlwind with a nice big slow 2 hander, arms spec. I enjoyed it so much I caught my warrior up to my shaman and duo’ed the par together running around. I did this for a couple levels. WF totem is awesome, well was. At times I could kill an even con Hell boar in like 2 seconds or instant with a WF proc from the totem. It’s recently been nerfed. Haven’t tried it since. Just remember anything with the word “Shaman” on it will be nerfed to uselessness, and anything with “warlock” gets buffs out the kazoo.
Don't have to agree with me, i'm just going by track record :D
Warlock and priest has more synergy than any other combo. Priest: holy, lock, afflic.
Though I wasn't sure how well my class I picked would do boxing, but I'm loving it atm.
Druids x 2
I'm on a pvp server so being able to "sneak" around is really nice. Not just for ganking people, but for the times when a level 70 decides to have some fun and kill people 40 levels lower than them. Normally if I gank some one it is to prevent them from killing my mobs or messing with me while I quest. I have only had one person so far return the favor with his lvl 70 mage, but with stealth, it is easy to sneak away when people try to corpse camp you.
Though not the "best" in the game, with 2 druids this is what you got.
Tank / Healer / Caster / Rog / Travel form
Last night was so sweet sneaking my toons to the named i needed to kill, then switch one into healer mode and other into tanking to kill the mob. It is very cool having a tank and healer that can go where ever a rogue can.
Once I get high enough, Ill try 2 boomkins out for fun, but atm both druids are feral because they kill stuff a lot faster with 2 cats vs 1 bear + 1 healer.
I will say other class combos will be easier, but at least I can say i'm different lol.

isnt it kinda troublesome to care all the time about having an enemy between druids? especially in pvp with movin' targets?

Two of the characters that I've dual boxed are a 44 Feral Druid and a 45 Arcane Mage (don't laugh, arcane is really good once you get the mana issues taken care of).
This works pretty well because I can actually run instances with this setup. The way I have the keys setup, pressing 1 activates Maul on my feral druid, and at the same time casts arcane missiles from my mage on the same target. Try to come up with spells that are synergistic.
I have to say, there is one limitation that kept me from completely clearing Scarlet Monastery with this setup: Positioning.
Basically, if the mage is on follow, they will be close enough to the tank that they will take damage from cleaves and other nasty melee AoE damage that mages should not be taking... This caused the survivability of my mage to be... less than perfect. If you can overcome this limitation, this combo has potential because with a real tank you can actually kill most elites mobs in this game.
One other limitation I had was that the feral druid had to pop out and heal himself in between pulls, because of course I had no healer to help me out.

So why don't you just drop your mage and then pick him up once the critter is dead? Bind an extra movement key to tap when you want him to stop following.

Here's what I've gathered from my own trials
Priest Priest - takes a while to get started in PvE at proper speeds, unbelievable in PvP and ganking, can do doublepulls, maybe triplepulls in instances but it's too slow to grind elites with
Mage Mage - slow until Arcane Explosion at level 14, could use some twinking with +stam/+int/+spi gear, then the fastest sameclass combo of the bunch. Macro and bind properly to work better in PvP
Hunter Hunter - fast from start to finish, grinding elites from the moment the first one pops up, deadzone is a huge problem, multiple-target managment is hard but extra traps might help
Warlock Warlock - See priests, not that much experience with that combination, Warlock Priest (priest as main for healing and some shadow dealing, buffing) is a very good combo idea
Shaman Shaman - takes a while to get started, ranged only via elemental talents that take a while to get into, horrible itemization until Outlands
Druid Druid (balance specs) - takes a darn long time to get into, nonexistant itemization until Outlands, effective once 60+ and geared well, a good idea for PvP (hint: moonfire spam)
Shaman Warrior (war main) - shaman healing allows the warrior to make 5+ mob pulls right from the start, shaman buffs help a lot, windfury at level 32 combined with other buffs, totems and heals will make this duo a small raidboss
isnt it kinda troublesome to care all the time about having an enemy between druids? especially in pvp with movin' targets?
Hasn't been an issue yet. But i have only ran WSG and AB, not high enough yet to do AV. But bigger the BG easier it seems.
Yes this would be easier using other classes, but this is my strats I use in different BGs.
AB:
Attacking flag:
Both cats / dash+ stealth to cap / ninja flags.
(Big Group attacks) Both can just nuke and heal when people need heals
(Might try Boomkin once I level up)
Guarding Flag:
Both stealthed, both attacking solo person capping flag.
One stealthed, other Bear form running around keeping eye out for rogues, he will normally get attacked first. Once low on hps, other starts to keep him healed.
One stealthed guarding while other stealths and ninjas another flag.
WSG:
Getting Flag:
Both cats / dash+ stealth to get the flag. When getting attacked, pop one out to heal other, normally the one healing gets attack, which allows the other to get away with the flag. Yes, I leave him there to die (may goal is to get the flag to the base) Auto"something" mod will make the other auto release so it can be rezzed in the GY.
Guarding Flag: Both stealthed in cat form and attack together, or one stealthed to heal bear while other bear form to attack who ever.
You will not be top HK but you will not be at the bottom either. When I was dual boxing warlocks it was real easy to get top HKs just dot EVERYTHING you see.
Druids are little harder, at my level, cat dps is the best damage (unless you special and got key gear that I cant pay for lol) The damage is only hitting 1 to 3 targets at once, and you have to be in range which means they can hit you too.
The plus side to 2 druids in BGs.. its like 2 rogues but either can heal the other, so you can do some really nice ganking, and being on a PVP server, having 2 toons that can stealth / heal / tank is nice (though im setting one up for healing and other for tanking)
Another note, while attacking I'm almost spamming follow. As you know ever attack breaks follow. Though I dont use this and for good reason. You could add the /follow command after you attack to make them follow again after pushing the attack buttons.
Example:
/cast [stance:3] claw
/follow focus
