View Full Version : PvP BG's & Multiboxing hate

Dunno if anyone ever brought this subject up, but, here it goes.
Was doing some WSG for fun, mid 40's, when suddenly, im the only one playing it... started to read the chat and there was something like this:
"dont do anything until the box leaves"
and my thoughts were:
wft is this?
why does this causes so much stress on ppl's minds?
shouldn't my side (alliance) be amused by it (a multiboxer playing) and willing to cooperate? more like, cut the rest of their hp ? lol
i am aware of the problems a multiboxer can go thru, but that was too much tbh.
dunno, it always bothered me a bit that moment, like i was the biggest geek in the planet while the rest of the BG are alt's forever stucked @lvl49 with epics and enchants.
did it ever happened to you?
recently i've been playing some AV and ppl actually kinda goof with it.

Yeah afk reporting them on all 5 guys will give them a debuff, so then they have to do something.
If someone or a couple of people are giving me grief ill just turn off chat by switching to combat screen and have my fun, fuck them imo.

Just start reporting them all AFK x5.
Thats all you can do./agreed
...If someone or a couple of people are giving me grief ill just turn off chat by switching to combat screen and have my fun, fuck them imo.Ditto. I use to try to help understand, debate, reason with, etc. But some people are just jealous, judgemental, asshats, or for w/e other reason they act they way they do and you're not going to get through to them. My advice, don't even let em bother you and just move on with your day. They are the ones who have to live with themselves constantly, not you.
I've gotten this in AB before, where a few people just say, "Well, I'm just going to stand at stables and wait for the game to end." Although, that's more a reflection of their belief that the AB can't be won with me playing my 3 shamans (who are admittedly undergeared... and yet are still rated 1651 in 5v5 after 4 weeks lol).
I started queueing the shamans one at a time, but getting all the marks I need is just too painful. I'd have to win every single game just to break even with the 3-box setup losing every game. I'd like to think that I'm not so detrimental to my team that I guarantee a loss just by zoning in.

Unfortunately, you're going to get that nearly 100% of the time in WSG if you're queueing alone. In the other battlegrounds, when you have spectators watching you, you normally won't cripple your team. In WSG, the first person who decides that their time is better spent trying to harass you is the death knell for the entire game. There's very little room for deadweight in that battleground. That's why I avoid it so much. You can't make me go in that place on a normal day. If I need tokens, I will either make a premade, or simply spread them out over a long duration. I do one WSG before I log off for the day, because in many cases it's made me feel like logging off for the day. I bet if I were to log in on a saturday morning and play a WSG immediately, I could have a whole day off the game and not log on until Sunday. ;(

Run av weekend with 4 shammys all 63 and feel the love. I finally made this macro ya i'm 63 ya i'm quadboxing no i don't care if you like it of not plz take all complaints to blizz.com .I noticed after they saw me kicking butt, lol even at 63 the hate slowed. They stopped bitching after they seen the help 4 guys aoe healing did.You may ask why av at 63 well i want full s2 when i reach 70 ,and you learn pvp skills you never new you had fighting 70ds at 63 . I get alot more hate in the day time, at night i have little problems.WSG i do 19 twink hunters the magic number seems to be 3 run 3 guys and the hate drops 4 to 5 and you'll have lots of problems .I use the ignore button alot in bgs you see hate ignore no more hate dont try and reason with a hater it will just make you type more and fight less lowering your score.Bottom line theres allot of very young kids playing this game and i don't really care what anyone thinks about me i pay my $ and box to have fun and haters will always hate for some reason. PS 4 63 shammys with 60k honor saved atm, work thru that hate to your goal,60k honor all av not 1 time was i even in the bottom 10 with any of my guys.I out scored the guys talking crap 90% of the time out score the haters don't fall into there game.Feel the multibox love
I let them talk for awhile, when your name starts coming up that you have capped a flag or defended an objective and they are still running their mouth do "/bg apologies but I am too busy playing to argue with you". If you are running around owning everything in your path there is usually a player or two telling them to shut it, if not you are in a BG with a bunch of newbs and there is nothing to be done, don't worry it will be over quick enough in that case.
You will find there is alot less hate after you hit the level cap, I wouldn't bother do BGs before 70 at all there is no upside there.

I thought the advice was to BG all but AV at 69 to get marks then AV at 70. I'd rather get to 70 then BG but don't want to put up with all the BS of going into WSG and AB with my 5 shammies.

I keep track of my multibox win/losses by BG. I rarely get any hate (almost all of it is "Nice! Boyl's crew, this is a sure win!"), but if I do, I only respond with something like...
"My 4-month EOTS win record is 92.4%. If we lose this one, it's not going to be my fault. I'll now be too busy playing this BG to continue to banter with you in /bg."
Most of the time it's not a problem. I easily get 5-10x the "love" comments than "hate" comments. If I do get negative comments, other folks often jump in and smack the person around while I'm busy. This was from last night in AV, about 5 minutes into a tough fight:
Hater_Guy: "well, it's a loss due to the lame ass multiboxer"
Random_Guy_1: "umm, he's rocking on defense and back-capping towers from the alliance, O is the problem"
Hater_Guy: "those shammies are not even near the top of the damage chart"
Random_Guy_2: "sort by HKs, moron, shaman boxers are 101 HKs and 1 death currently, with 3 tower recaps on the main one"
Hater_Guy: "watever, it's cheating and he's hurting us"
Random_Guy_1: "Just stop whining and play."
Random_Guy_3: "Boylston freaking rocks, I love being in BGs with him"
This kind of BG chat is pretty typical, if there's any negativity at all. I just ignore people and go about the business of winning. WSG can be dicier, so I have to take a little more time to chat in /bg to explain how to best work with my team. I still struggle to have more than a 65% win record for that BG though (the rest are all 85%+).
Random_Guy_3: "Boylston freaking rocks, I love being in BGs with him"
lol, i love random guy 3, its funny when you join a bg and someone knows you from a different realm. mines usuaily, the opti crew is here! fuck yes

The funny thing is that for my battlegroup, this is our win percentage.
AV = 90% Win
EOTS = 40% Win
AB = 10% Win
WSG= 0% Win
In AV and EOTS, almost nobodies notices my 5-man team... win or lose...
AB and WSG, the blame is always on someone... if I'm multiboxing, then the multiboxer... if I'm solo... someone else gets the blame.

Its amazing how fast you actually get know throughout your battlegroup. When I was on my priest/lock team, I got recognized about every game I joined, and I got more accepted each time as people saw that the BG usually was won.
When I now started my new shammy team, I saw the same thing. Got a lot of hate in the beginning, but now I'm winning a lot, and I get far less hate. If you do good in BG's you will get known quite fast, and also more often get support from your teammates against the haters.

True. If you are multiboxing in a BG and sucking, you will easily gain a bad reputation.
AV is a great way to start multiboxing... By playing defense you can have a huge amount of control over the outcome of a game (just back-capping towers will buy your team oodles of time). EOTS is also a nice one to get started with...

Finally got the 20 wsg tokens I needed last week. It was brutal, and would always get blamed for a loss (I did win a few though). If I queued up as a group (5x shamans) it would take 30 - 40 minutes just to get into a game. I'd run 1 and sometimes 2 AV's before my wsg would pop.
FYI for anyone trying to get their team WSG tokens... I grabbed an addon from curse called critandrun which works much like the AVpremade addons but for all bg's. Queuing up the team separately reduced the queue time from 30+ minutes to <1minute. Just had to re-queue a few times before I'd get everyone in the same BG -- still worked out great though -- and you're less likely to run into premades.

I haven't met any haters yet. (at lvl 36 atm)
I only get positive replies. From people who say: "WTF?" or others who know a bit more and ask if i'm multiboxing. I even got quite some twinkhealers to back me up when AoEing etc. So i really don't recognize all that hating.

I agree with this.
AV is my best bet for winning.
Eots is a nice 2nd. In eots defense isnt as crucial as it is in AB. You cant just go and ninja a base in eots. Many people fail to realize this and waste time "defending" a base alone in eots. The only base in need of defense in eots is the one that is under siege, and here you have a nice advandage as a multiboxer. If the base you are currently stationed on isnt under attack you should immediatly run for the next weakest defended enemy base. Very importan: Run a long way around any enemys midfield so you dont get hung up in the middle

I only use it for people who are truly AFK. OK, I used it a couple times for evil purposes. We don't want to be abusing this or else AV will just become a reporting war.

actually, and it works, u can just spamm report and it will take effect as if it were a person per click.
for the rest, from what all you guys said, WSG and AB seem to be the worst BG's for a boxer. I agree, and i actually think WSG is the worst one, so i'd better get some friends and get a fixed.

Have you read Vyndree's thread where she and Suvega were constantly reported AFK as a form of harrassment, and GMs / Customer Service reps didn't give a shit?
I seem to have completely missed that. Link, if available, please?

Actually I disagree, I think boxers can be really good in WSG, and not too bad in AB.
I would say 4boxing is probably ideal for both of these (since 5boxing is taking up 1/2 of the team in WSG, and 1/3 in AB, a bit excessive tying up 1/3 of the team defending a single node in AB, or 1/2 of the team guarduing the flag or dominating middle)
the reason boxing is powerful in WSG is you get amazing focused fire against flag carriers. Especialy if the enemy is trying to turtle up with their whole team, you can just run up and blast the FC and re-cap. THis is especialy effective when the 50% damage debuffs go up, elemental shamans can literally 1-shot even some of the better-geared enemies. If they have too much HP, just drop some shocks first.

I have tried this some in WSG. Its true that your burst is very good to recap flags. However this will only work against people that has no clue how multiboxing works. If you meet a few skilled enemys with atleast some expirience with multiboxers, just 1-2 enemies, rogues beeing the worst, can keep you occupied enough to keep you from the FC.
But I agree that WSG can work semi-well if you meet players with no clue how multiboxing works.
Anoter strat that has worked fairly well for me:
Defend the flag-room from the first wave of attackers. Put up all your fire-elementals and your enemies will often be so suprised/angry/no clue about whats happening that they will just lie there dead without releasing and watch. Often they are busy writing reports and making lvl1 alts to flame you:P
If you get this types of games, you will have allmost certain wins :)

I also recive alot of hate, especially in BG's. Ofcourse it's not fun, but I have to assume that when someone comes up to me and says "Idiot", "Lamer" etc, they are just yellos. But the positive comments makes up for it, when someone cheers you on or is impressed it's awesome ^^
But on my server it's usually cool. Many people in my main's guild know that I'm boxing and they don't mind.

So PvP Multiboxing hate... without battlegrounds.
I roll into Tanaris with my hunters. Do a quest or two. Then get corpse camped right outside town by a paid of rogues (65 & 70).
I get my paladin and shaman, and punish them. corpse camped for probably 30 minutes.
Alliance crowd gathers and start hating on me. /sigh
Lots of low level horde start gathering and doing the /spit game.
I kill them. And the goblins they thought would save them.
More horde 70s show up. About 5 or 6.
I drop totems.
More /spitting from horde and random "no life" comments from alliance.
I've got like 10 40sih horde and 7 or so horde 60 - 70s.
I blow heroism and 4x fire elementals.
I kill the town. All of it. goblins included. lol
Then I figure I've made my point. I logout and get back on the hunters.
Same two rogues instantly gank me and start the /spit routine.
At that point I decided it was time to logoff for the night. Go read a book or something.
Hunters = +200% idiot aggroBut u didn't make a point.. u just made people hate us more.

First off - if you do WSG or AB with 5's team - it's actually pretty hard to do well - so expect people to not be too happy unless you are good at these.
HOWEVER, EOTS and AV should be no-brainer wins 90% of the time.
After seeing hate soooooo many times - imho the best thing to do is:
say nothing and continue to kick ass - let them say whatever they want and just ignore it. You will have people stick up for you if you do well.
all the sudden people will say - some positive stuff when they see you at the top of the score or see you doing well.
At this point - there is maybe 1 in 10 AVs where people start hating - but it quickly turns around when they see me in action.
Now its - wow check out the 5 shaman's "5 boxing ftw" - crap like that.
and about 100 variations of "holy crap that is the coolest thing I have ever seen" - thanks for making BG's fun again.
I think the biggest problem you'll find is people follow you around to check out the action.
Tasty

People are going to hate us regardless. If you gank expect to get ganked right back. Props to you fur, I would have done exactly the same thing :P
PS: I have done the same thing ;)
[...]

Quoted for truth.
That's why I now always start explaining my tactics before the BG has started.
e.g. I tell people 2 or 3 times the same (with other words) that I will be taking the Lumber Mill and that they should NOT follow me if they want to win. I tell them also that they should team up and capture+hold the other points.
If they actually listen, you're very likely to win.

My favorite multiboxing hate is when random people demand instance runs and when you say "no" they go apeshit.
During that same ordeal last night, I have a couple of people ask me what mod I was using. I told them to think a little harder, there are no mods invovled. Then I had another ask me what quest I did to get so many minions.
"I drove to Walmart and bought four more copies of WoW"
The guy understood after that. :P
llolololololl
i think the "what addon are u using" it's the most common, i get whispers with that allllllll the time!
no matter what u say, they will ask again: where do i download that! lol
as for pvp on ab and wsg, it always depends...on so many things... i guess a good D on start of WSG, and a good BS rush on AB can be the trick :)

I was solo in AB and the gates had not even opened when not 1 but 2 were advocating "don't cap anything, let them have 5x so the BG goes fast"
I was pretty pissed and report one of them :cursing: , wasn't sure exactly which category that went under, harrasement or what. I really had never seen this before.
They started calling everyone idiots when we didn't just stand there and let the horde win. we lost really bad but I kind of figureed that was expected when two players quit before it started.

I see that sometimes. The problem in AB (as well as WSG and EotS) is that they are just terrible honor per hour. People usually just go for tokens, and they'd rather lose a game in 5 minutes by getting 5-noded than lose a game holding 2 nodes for 20+ minutes. The thought of actually winning never enters their mind, although I image that depends on your faction and battlegroup.
Last night a group of us were queuing for AB with 10. Pretty much guaranteed wins when we're matched against non-premades. And yet we still had people going stealth/shadowmeld afk on us. People are just lazy in BGs as a general rule. Unfortunately we win the games so quickly that the afk-debuff doesn't even have time to go up on the people we report sometimes.

You can turn that hate around real quick if you put some effot into it. Simple things like:
Putting on cool light shows in town for a few min every day to get your name out and become known.
If your in a zone and you hear someone begging for help on a group quest help them finish it real quick
If you see some PvP goin on and you got heals then heal the hell outta your faction and make them feel invincible to have you on thier side
Stay positive and show a good attitude towards others no matter what people say to you and it will all start to turn around. I get like 90% love on my server now, i dont have to even defend my actions, if someone talks bad about me other people will back me up.
