View Full Version : Keyclone hasn't crashed but stops doing anything on PC2

I had upgraded both PCs (I have a 1+4 setup on 2 PCs) to 1.8j last week and had no problems on either PC over the first couple of sessions.
However, this week I've been playing a lot more multiboxing and the second PC has stopped responding to keyclone numerous times.
It usually happens when I send all 5 voidies into attack, only my main voidy attacks, the 4 on the second PC sit twiddling their thumbs and we wipe :)

When I tab out I see that KeyClone on my main PC is no longer showing a connection to the second PC and will not reconnect.
When I check out KeyClone on the second PC it has not died, it still responds to being brought into focus, but I have to close it, kill the remaining KeyClone process and fire it up again before my main PC will connect again and we can continue.

It happened 3 or 4 times in the last couple of days, so I've ended up rolling the second PC back to 1.8f (the previous version I had on that system) whilst sticking with 1.8j on the main PC.

I can't determine any patterns to point to a cause. The second PC is only ever used for multiboxing and both PCs are cabled into the same router (no wireless anywhere here).

I've now had 2 days, with long "get to 60 and get epic mount" sessions using 1.8j + 1.8f, with no repeat of the problem.

If there's anything I can do to help pinpoint the issue, just shout.

I have noticed something similar

When I push the "pause" button, then I un-pause the functions stop working. The fix for this is to minimize all the screens and immediately just bring them back - which isnt very continent.

Sorry maybe this isnt the same issue at all! :P

ehehe this made me laugh

I accept Blizzard's stance on the neccessity of the character being controlled by a human. For a change, I would like to see Blizzard explain if and why this is fair.

i went through this problem this weekend with another user. he was on xp

strangely, it would seem the performance boost actually helps avoid this issue. (keyclone/ setup/ general/ performance boost)

the performance boost insures the multi-media timer to be set to a 1ms resolution (i don't need anything more then that).

i have no real good reason why this is required on some machine, but checking it seems to prevent the problem.

let me know if that helps,

Rob

Bad news, "Performance Boost" was already checked and it still did it :(

Yep, sorry, put 1.8j back on PC#2 (still with 1.8j on PC#1) and it lost connection after a couple of hours this time.

I can't imagine this explains it at all but will mention it anyway. The lost connection happened after I had been tabbing out of WoW and browsing Alakazham for quest info (NB: this is on the main PC, running 1.8j and 1 WoW client).
I managed a whole Ramparts run with no lost connection but played straight through, no tabbing out.
I release that my lost connections last week in BRD were also around when I was tabbing out to check routes to take etc.

I also realise that I'm tabbing/browsing on the main PC and it is the second PC which needs keyclone to be killed and restarted... however, thought I'd mention it anyway.

Hmmm... an update... lost connection with 1.8f just now, after about 8h playing.

As with 1.8j, I needed to kill 1.8f on the second PC, kill the outstanding process and fire it up again before 1.8j on the main PC could connect.

And, again, it happened immediately after I had been browsing on the main PC, checking out a tailoring guide... coincidence? :)

I just barely started trying to do this 2 machine 5 wow's yesterday and started running into this same problem you're having while i was just setting up my hotkeys and movement keys in ironforge. i have it set up like this

Main pc = 2.8 ghz 4 gigs ram (win xp pro, so i know...u dont have to say it, overkill on the ram)

2nd pc = 1.8 ghz 1 gig ram 256 mb AGP Nvidia card of some sort, pos i dunno its ancient. but the game runs fine on it

Ok so i have Maximizer set up to make 3 of my windows on my main pc tiny and in the bottom left, bottom center, and bottom right, and then the main window full screen overlapping the 3 tiny windows (i get 60 fps on my paladin tanking with the mage/boomkin/shaman in the background nuking) and on my other pc i have the priest healing.

i've been dual boxing healer+tank or healer+dps for 4 years now, manually reaching over with my right hand to heal with the f1-f5 keys and then the heals being 1-6 or shift 1-6, so pretty much just lots of work and not being able to use my mouse on my main pc since my right hand was always keeping the party or myself alive. so, recently when i got the 5th account i decided i had the hardware so i'd use it for the healer so i could look over to see what he was doing if he wsn't responding, i could just do all 5 on this machine it runs fine but only when i have the other 4 windows in tiny mode.

so yesterday i purchased my 2nd copy of keyclone and got it all set up and kept having the keyclone crash (it wouldn't say it crashed it just stopped responding to anything, and wouldn't show the connection between the 2 pc's anymore) so i'd have to open task manager and kill the process and launch keyclone again. i thought about the performance boost issue and checked it on both pc's, went to Zul Farrak and started having the same issue again. i played for maybe 45 mintues and had them desync about 6 times until i gave up and just went back to using 2 keyboards to play the 5 characters (which is a pain).

I believe i'm running keyclone v1.8h on the main pc and 1.8j on the 2nd machine. i'll try upgrading the main pc to 1.8j when i get home from work and the servers are back up but from the looks of this thread it looks as though maybe it wont make much of a difference? anyway, i'm enjoying keyclone other than this new issue i'm running into, can't wait to get a new pc so i can run them more smoothly when i hit 70.

I'm having this exact problem as well. I run five accounts on 3 machines, and one of my secondary boxes consistently has problems with keyclone freezing and requiring manual termination. The other two boxes have this problem occasionally, but far less frequently. All three boxes experience frequent dropped connections requiring me to manually add the applications windows to keyclone and re-establish the connections.

The trouble seems to run hot and cold; sometimes it is unbearably frequent, other times I can go hours without problems. A complete reboot of all three systems seems to buy me more stability. Strangely, I seem to have the worst trouble when I'm dealing with keys on the round-robin list. My pause key also seems to break things. I've tried the performance boost trick, but it doesn't seem to help.

The trouble seems to have arrived when I upgraded to j, but I I'm a pretty new user and I really didn't roll with the other versions long enough to definitively conclude that j introduced the problem.

I am having the same problems as the OP ... but version 1.8k

Similar setup .. 2 PC's running 1 + 2/3/4 .. depending on if my little girl is playing or not.

The Performance Boost is ticked on both installs.

To be honest I never really looked for a stresser but it always seems to happen after a pause (Mute).

I did try to upgrade to v1.9g but got the dreaded message "LICENSE HAS EXPIRED". ;(

KeyClone ... I have sent you a PM with the relevent PayPal info as I am not sure of my email at the time of purchase, I was a little 8o spaced out due to medication.

I hasten to add that the medication was entirely legal and administered in hospital ..

As a passing Pally seems to have cast Redemption on my old thread, I can report that I still get this issue, from time to time :(

Still running a 2 PC setup (1+4 clients).
Both PCs are running XP Pro.
Both are on KeyClone 1.9g.
Both are physically cabled into the same switch.

It used to happen a lot... multiple times every dungeon run... but now it's once a week, on average.

I just kill the KeyClone process on PC2 and fire it up again and everything is fine.

It's the main reason I want to move to a single PC setup but don't have the £££ to do it atm.

as for the problem, i have not seen this issue in a long time. do you have a way to reproduce it reliably? that would help a lot in finding it.

Hey there :)

hmph. please resend as i did not receive anything.
Resent as a PM, if you still don't get it I'll email you.

Running all day on a 1+1 config ... only other thing I did was a little browsing on both PC's and an extended Pause (Mute) while the nurses were doing their thing.

Prior to browsing and the extended pause everything was ok.

Shortly after releasing the extended pause I got the sound of a dc .. so I brought them to the front for a look .. they were connected as normal, except for 1 thing.

On PC 1 the connected ping was showing in 6 figures (normally 0.01 ms), whilst on PC 2 the ping was normal at 0.02 ms.

So I selected the remove option and removed PC2, then did a reconnect and though the ping was now showing correctly the connection ( lag ) was still bad.

I exited both instances of keyclone and restarted them ... the problem went away.

It seems to me that it happens after a long period of inactivity while the mute is active.

I will watch for it to happen tomorrow and will post again if it is different or I can pin-point a particular event.

hmph. i hadn't tried leaving the override on for an extended (20+ minutes) period of time. i'll give that a shot.
