I have accumulated quite a few badges now on my pally + 3 ele shamans + 1 resto shaman that I've not spent on anything yet. I run PVE almost exclusively and am trying to figure out what gear stats to focus on for my DPSers. I've read that spell haste is the second most important stat, just barely below spell damage, for ele shamans. There are many opinions floating around about this topic, ranging from people saying to accumulate up to 300 spell haste, and then other people say to stat up with spell crit for a pro-longed mana supply. But, these debates are centered around the single-boxer shaman. Is it really better to stack spell crit over spell haste for a boxer with 3+ Totem of Wrath?

It depends what it is for I suppose, but elemental shamans generally go for ALOT of crit rating. Haste is good yes...but only when you have ALOT of it. ok, for eg most t4 gear shamans will have about 30-40% crit raid buffed I think.

What type of crit are the top 5x shaman teams running with? I have some crappy 60 gear and some 60+ greens, but my crit is around 26% with 5xtow. I would imagine it wouldn't be hard to get to 50+%.

Well here it goes.. take this as you wish, but i'll post what i know about Elemntal Shaman and how to gear them up. My Main Raid toon is a Elemental Shaman and i'm in Hyjal and BT right now.

If your starting out there are a few minimums that you need to get.

1. you need 3% Hit rating if your Draenei, 4% if your any Horde shaman. This is from Gear and does not include your totems.

2. Spell Damage is the most important Stat for gear, so stack this until you are up to aprox 1000 unbuffed (no totems or anything). You can Never have enough Spell Damage, so make sure every gem you use has at Spell Damage and then another stat like Crit or Haste.

3. 30% crit with no buffs (no totems or trinkets or anything) is the point you want to try to get to. This Does Include Talents tho which is 10%. Making it 30% you need from gear it self. after 40% Crit you actually get less benifit from crit (1% crit after 40%, works out to be about .6% effective so don't go above 40)

4. When you have the above then look at stacking Spell Haste. BIG WARRNING! Your mana Efficency will SUCK the more haste you stack. SUCK BIG TIME! Before +1000 Spell Damage Haste is worse off then streight +spell Damage so this is not a good thing to stack for 5 mans and Heroic content.

The above is for raiding. You won't get 1000 spell damage with out all the badge gear and/or Tier 5 or better.

For Heroics and 5 Man Content (also will get you all the way to SSC and TK If you get that far).

Stack Spell Damage and then Spell Crit. and make sure you have the 3% (4% for Horde) Hit rating which is easy as that's only about 40 points and 14 of that can come from the helm enchant alone. I try to stay with Mail gear for survivability, but i know you can get father if you wear Cloth and Leather as well at lower levels.

Socket +Spell damage gems, or the +spell Damage/+Spell Crit gems

One day i'll do a write up on what Elemental Shaman need and sort out all the Junk that is floating around on the Interwebs, and turn it in to English for thsoe who can't understand Elties Jerks Crappy Graphs and such.

Thank you all for your responses.

My gear is still a work-in-progress, and my stats are still low. But I am trying to plan ahead and make the correct purchases of badge gear. For instance, www.maxdps.com shows the best chest piece to get with badges is the 100 badge Hauberk of Whirling Fury ('http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34933') but it lacks spell crit. I guess I could use a spell crit gem in it, though. The 75 badge Hauberk of the Furious Elements ('http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33965') has less haste but has spell crit included. Or, I could go for the Tormented Demonsoul Robes ('http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34936') to get even more spell crit at the expense of less armor. Armor isn't really an issue since my dps hardly ever get hit when my pally is tanking.

Rawr is a great tool for theory crafting with gear and buffs. I'm not sure if it comes with the elemental shaman model yet, but there is one out there.

With Gear + Totems + Talents I'm around 46/47% crit and over 800spell dmg, and face melt heroics.
