I'd been wondering for a while about how blizzard would view a multiboxer reporting the same character from 5 accounts, and some idiot gave me the perfect opportunity to find out.

I was doing a bit of questing in nagrand, killing some ogres and sticking maghar banners in some pyres. I realised I'd run straight past the first pyre, so I went back and clicked my quest item, when two other guys show up doing the same quest. I turned and went back to 1 (4) shotting ogres, when one of the newcomers whispered me a single obscene word.... completely out of the blue. He cant have been pissed off about me killing all the mobs, because they had only been there about 20 seconds and there were plenty of mobs in range. I stuck him on ignore and continued on. Lo and behold after about 2 minutes, my priest got a tell from the same guy. Same single word, nothing else. While I was reaching over to type ./ignore on my priest, the same word pops up in chat for all 3 mages. BY this stage I'd had enough of this guy so I queued up a ticket. Here was the result

What was even funnier was that while I was waiting for the response, I noticed something wierd going on in general chat. It took me a while to figure out that this idiot was having a massive QQ about me in general chat, which quickly descended into masses of people calling him an idiot and telling him "suggestions forum that way ====>" There must have been about 15 people bagging him in general chat and I only noticed one person who was slightly negative about multiboxing.

Anyhow I've yet to see him online today, I'm going to keep checking to see if he's earnt himself a holiday from WoW. In any case all my clones had a mail from blizzard this morning saying "thankyou for reporting this behaviour"

man, if someone could of asked the question I found out the power of reporting people x5 a while ago, its been great, seen people go offline for 3 hours or 24 hours soon after I reported them (which I assume was a suspension) lol

Seems funny but a little unfair. If the guy just cursed you out once he violated the ToS one time an should be treated accordingly.

Technically he swore at 5 different characters that, while unlikely, COULD have been 5 different individuals that were NOT multiboxing.

I mean, if I WANTED to I could level from 1-70 with a bunch of friends in the room and made sure all my friends had /assist macros and only pressed them when I shouted at them. Unlikely, but not impossible.




Swearing is against the terms of use. Simple as that. He swore not once, but 5 times, at 5 different characters. Even if the GM realizes that this particular potty-mouth thought he was swearing at a single player instead of multiple, that would be swearing AND spamming. So he's either going to get the 5x swearing slap on the wrist, or the spamming a swear slap on the wrist.

Either way -- break the rules, you face consequences. Simple as that, multiboxing or not.

Anyways after my msg back to him he started going off some more and I just simply put him on my /ignore and moved on with my day.

I've accidently typed /1 to talk in general chat while leveling when horde are being a bit of a pain... but forgot to mute the other toons...

a. can I get reported for this?

b. is there a better way to avoid this that I'm not thinking of?

Yes you can get reported - anybody can report anybody for anything
if you get reported nothing will happen, the reason for this is Bliz treats each toon as one toon thus the ability to Mulit box in the first place. Yes you said the same think on all of your toons but it was one line from 5 different accounts it was not like you spamed the same thing form one account over and over again (that would be spamming)

My guess is that every single multiboxer has done this once :) If you continue to do it then it could be considered spam I guess, but doing it every once in a while isn't an issue.

Heh, I have General turned off on my main and Trade turned off on all of them. Both of those channels are cesspits of useless trivia and chuck norris jokes.

Actually, I once reported a played x5 for harassment, and talked to GM's at least almost on all 5 characters, and the GM said that it was best to just report them on one account, cause more reports just meant more work for the GM's and just as much reaction towards the offender as with 1 report. But this was a different kind of harassment, so in the case of privately swearing at every character I would agree that 5xreport was best, and justified.

I've left Trade channel on my alts for this reason...however i still occasionally spam in general/defense/say chat if I'm distracted. The key is to make sure you apologize to whatever channel you spammed, on ONE char ;p
