Hi everyone,

Ive been Dual Boxing for a while now on a number of different characters but didn't realise there were so many people doing it till now. Up till yesterday I've been Alt Tabbing between Warcraft Windows to activate different macros to Assist / heal etc but discovering the various sites out there i've looked into it a bit more.

Not sure if there's any Mac users out there using only one computer like me, but thought this may be of interest. I couldn't find a program to properly replicate key presses between different windows and worked on a method using applescript to run macros on both windows at once. This worked a treat however it was a pain having to click the run button in Script editor just to fire a shadow bolt etc. Having hunted some more I found a program called "Global Hotkey" (http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.de/Freeware/GlobalHotkey.shtml). This lets you define hot keys then when pressed activates an apple script.

For example now, when pressing Control + 1, the following apple script is run

[code:1]tell application "System Events"
tell application "World of Warcraft" to activate
key code 23
tell application "World of Warcraft 2" to activate
key code 23
end tell[/code:1]

This runs whatever ability or macro I have in slot 1 on both WoW windows I have open.

Hope this helps any Mac users out there having trouble trying to dual box on 1 machine :)

Just saw this on Gizmodo a few minutes after I read this post, so I decided to link it here:

Basically a specialized version of Synergy for Mac.

Some of you may know, I've been having problems getting key broadcasting to work on my mac. Vultuk's excellent script wasn't running for me, even though I could get it to work flawlessly from the Scripteditor (I understand about the "run" thing). I guess it was the Global Hotkeys that I was having problems with. And of course, the mac Synergy doesn't have the key broadcasting mod.

BTW, great video Ellay. I see you have good taste in computers. :D

Anyway, I found another excellent option that I wanted to post. It's a task automation donationware called Butler.

http://www.manytricks.com/butler/

It runs silently in the background and automates virtually anything, including adding hotkeys. You can add a "Smart Item" and one of the options is an applescript. I pasted Vultuk's script into the source code field, assigned an F-key as the trigger and it worked great. I programmed my Nostromo's green state with all function keys and now I'm running 3 wows on one mac and quickly able to toggle from broadcast to main by switching states on my speedpad. I had to manually set up each hotkey which took a little while, but it's working great. Now if I could get a mac syngery, I could go from one box to many. :D

Well, I'm so happy to be able to join you guys. I've been dual boxing for a while but it's mostly high-low power leveling, or AH watching on the side, etc. Now I can simultaneously cast with my little droogs. Much better! I'll keep posting more mac stuff as I find it.

OK just for fun I tested running 4 clients on the macbook pro and in amazement they all run fine with 2 gigs or ram it s amazing.

Now, I looked into Globalhotkey and I have zero idea how this works, clicking the realbasic icon does nothing.

I looked into butler and I am also completely lost. Could I beg you to eiher make a couple of screenshots on how to program an applescript with it...I am willing to bribe :)

Seriously I have been toying with it for an hour and I don t understand how to make it work...help would be greatly appreciated because if I can use my xkeys to control the 4 clients then I am home free without having to build 4 PCs

actually, you could get away with a single PC using keyclone or AHK.

an adequate system for 4 clients would cost about $600-800 for a desktop (128M+ grfx mem and 1G+ DDR RAM, 1.5GHz+ dual cpu)

and you should be able to use your existing mac monitor... otherwise spend another $150-250 for a 22 inch flat panel

Actually I am gobsmacked, I put 2 gig in my macbookpro and finally figured out how to use Butler and I just 4 boxes 4 shamans to level 3 on one machine lol.

This is awesome but it will require tons of macros. I need to figure out how to link my xkeys to a KV switch now and use that.

Damn the first time all 4 shamans fired thei lightning bolts at the same time my jaw dropped and I giggled like a schoolgirl

I've been working on a new Mac app called CloneKeys. You can guess what it does. :)

It's pretty much keyclone but for the Mac. In my initial tests, it works great. (Even with the broadcasting Mac synergy that I implemented a bit ago.)

I'll probably put up an announcement here in the next day or so on where to get it, if people are interested.

The main advantage to CloneKeys over using Butler or the other applescript solutions is that it doesn't need to switch each copy of WoW to the front when sending keystrokes. So no flickering as it sends to each window, since all the windows stay in the background where they belong. Plus, no tedious amount of configuring for each key, etc...
