Im not sure this even matters but im level 24 and fixing to respec all 5 to BM. I have cats for now and they work great when they get a chance to hit, which is rare. I mostly kill stuff instantly which is super fun. I was told ravagers would be great, not sure why, and I was thinking of wolves for the buff and/or wind serpent for the instant cast range attack. Would love to hear some suggestions/comments.

As a hunter you can have about 3 pets (two stabled one you use).

So you could have a pets of different types, and swap in and out as necessary (although probably more of a pain whilst levelling).

I levelled with cats till outland then got a ravager.

I should have tried more pets. Owls are meant to be really good for holding aggro as are boars.

So I would probably level with boars as the owl screeching is annoying. Then get a ravager for outlands. (they are a good dps pet)

mix 4 ravanger with an owl 4 screech ... thats the best ....

pig aggro is fixed so i think they are that good as they were...

i think best petmix is

1 pig (as tank)+ 3 ravanger (without growl =more dmg)+ owl (screech =ap debuff)

or

4 ravanger (1with growl =tank, 3without growl=more dmg)+ owl (screech =ap debuff)

just pigs is just less dmg and debuff...

all other pets are worth ... if you go to be effective as possible...

but take the pets which you like ... yo have to feed them ;P

so far your Warko

ps ok if you kill mostly instant ... maybe wind serpant is an ... ähh .. :pinch: iīm lazy in words right now ... an oportunity ?! because the instant cast ... this is real nice ... if you have longer fights ... ravangers have the best dps ... but cats and raptors have just a little less

Imagine a 5x screech debuff........ I also like the idea of keeping a wolf on one hunter for the furious howl and keep that one on stay to keep the buff in range.

With stuff dying so fast, do you even put growl on the cast bar? You could leave it off the pet cast bar and only leave bite, claw or whatever for max focus use.

You could leave one hunter marks so you can have trueshot for them all.

I think it's best to combine, so you can have the benefits of multiple pets.

if you kill fast itīs not that good ... i just donīt know if its, screec, stack .. but i think so ...

but you have to look how you fight

if it short ... you donīt need any buffs... take maybe wind serpent ...

if you go instance ... 1 wolf 1 owl and 3 ravanger ....for best support and dmg

To be honest I could go petless and not even notice it. With 5 hunters you can kill so fast its amazing. At level 20 I was able to take out level 20 elites without them being able to even get hit by a pet. I also downed some level 40 non elite mobs at 20 which is btw so OP :)

I have been up to now using 5 cats and just turn on claw/bite and turn off growl. Using growl is a waste of energy. I pretty much just spam arcane shot/auto shot and let the cats finish off the mobs as they die as a super fast rate. Im still thinking of playing around with some more pets but that would prolly only cut into my leveling time and im starting to notice that really any pet will do, specially pets like cats or other +10% DPS pets. I didnt want any pet with AP debuff because to be honest Its kinda useless in my situation as I am not doing any instances until 70. Thanks to everyone for all your comments and suggestions.

I'm pretty sure Screech only stacks at different ranks, which would mean more than two owls/bats are a bit redundant. If I were to do a 5-hunter team (I currently have 4 + Priest) I would use different pets for the buff synergies. Something like boar/boar/wolf/owl/windserpant.

I have 5 lvl 20 BM hunters. I wanted buffs/debuffs since I don't have any healers or tanks. I chose boar (for aggro and stun), wolf (for howl--raises everyone's attack), 2 ravagers (for DPS) and carrion (for screech--lowers mobs attack). It seems to work pretty well. I leave all their growls on so hopefully they all tank equally. I didn't want only one to tank or I end up with a normal group, not a full DPS group. Then I would feel guilty and say, "If I have one tank, why not use the best tank, (warrior/druid/pally)." And, "If I have a tank, I should get a healer." Again, I wouldn't end up with 5 hunters any more. So my plan is to share aggro. It also seemed good to actually put the spirit bond (healing every few seconds talent from BM) to good use. I sorta cheated a little and chose Draenei so I would actually get a free heal out of it. It works out really well.

Just pick your own strategy, you will be the one that has to live with it for a long time.

Boars make supreme tanks, or used to anyway.

I think the initial AP boost from Charge used to affect Growl too, resulting in a massive initial threat spike on the boar. My 70 boar was getting about 4000 threat upfront which was hard to overtake.

I think Blizz tried to nerf this in the last patch, and I haven't played with my boar since then, so I don't know if they're worthwhile tanks anymore.

If I were multiboxing hunters, I'd have one good tanky pet and four good DPS pets - Boar+4xCats probably.

My 2c: I have a 5 hunter team. Haven't played it in a little bit, but I got them to Level 22, cleared RFC @ L12 and WC @ L16. I think the key is to remember that most single targets will die nearly instantly, so it doesn't matter what pet you have for them. The situtations I had trouble with was the large pulls in instances where there were a number of things that had to be tanked. in those situations, I would assign a pet to tank each mob, then I'd focus fire the hunters to burn things down. Threat was my biggest adversary, and healing aggro was an issue. For that reason, I really like the idea of 5 boars for threat.

Thanks everyone for all your great responses and replies. After thinking about it and taking all of your advice I just decided to stick with my cat until at least 60 which want take but few days anyway. At this lower levels I find that I never even use pets as I kill stuff with one shot while questing. Maybe at 60 ill try a few different combinations. Thanks again everyone.

I've found that Gorillas work very well in instances as the stomp that they do tends to pull in all mobs. I have a Druid for a healer for my four hunters and I put thorns on the pets as well to gain a little more agro. Taking out a really big boss with mobs can get ugly. In a big fight I tend to try to keep them all up, but sometimes it gets kinda of insane.

The boss fight at Mana Forge Ulta(?) (the last one) was a hoot. I don't know how I managed to stay up, but I did. For all of those fights I came up with a pretty good strategy. I put my Druid's back to the console and then placed all of my hunters in an X formation around that, facing them all inward with pets on agressive. Once the mobs came out, I pulled them into the center and opened fire.

The team is at 69 now. Will hit 70 soon. Once I get to 70 I'm going to train up some cats and a wolf or two for outdoor stuff along with PvP stuff. I have another hunter already at 70, but I believe I'm going to go for a druid in stealth to lead my four hunters in PvP competition. Hard to figure how whose in charge of a bunched up group of hunters.
