View Full Version : WotLK around the corner, my choice of leveling; Quad-boxing.

Well, I've been casually dual boxing for a while and I've decided that in WotLK I'd like ot level in instances via 3x DPS +healer Quad-boxing, with my warrior arena parter spec'n prot.

Currently I have a resto druid and a mage at 70 - these will become part of the team be default, no changes to be made ;]

The problem I have is, I also have a hunter in her early 60's, but due to thier DPS mechanics (shot rotations ect) I assume they're very hard to run as clones? Which would force me to run her as my main, which I would preffer to be the healer.

So, my question to you guys is; Is it worth leveling her or leveling a Destro lock + ele shammy for the awesome one-button DPS?

Setups would be:
Resto druid, Destro lock, BM hunter, Frost mage.
OR
Resto druid, Destro lock, Ele Shammy, Frost mage.

Thanks in advance for tips / replies =]

I personally think the shammie would be easier, mainly because of the synergy with the other casters. I am not sure about destruction locks, but if specced for shadowbolts and other non dots it would also mesh better. I use Shammy frost mage combo and thier cast times for spells matches really well and as a result its easier to box.

If you do the hunter's Auto -> Steady -> Auto -> Steady, then you could just have that macroed as a sequence.

There's a macro for this somewhere in WoW's Hunter Forum that you can use. Definitely wouldn't have multi-shot weaved in there.

I would have the Druid as the main because of healing.

Button1 would lay down totems in a macro sequence also
Button2 would do Hunter's Mark and send both Lock and Hunter's pets in
Button3 would do the Hunter's macro sequence, lock's sequence, shammy's sequence, and the mage's sequence (all basic dps sequence macros) This one would be spammed.

Ah, I see, so with a little extra macro'n and tuning it'd be very possible to use the hunter.

Thanks  I'll look into those macros

The BigRedKitty Hunter blog recently included a discussion of these macros with regards to his own (high level) equipment.. but did include a nice version of the two most popular shot rotations.

I agree with razorbax, if it's a question of warlock or elemental shaman, the shaman looks like a better fit for your group. If you had a shadow priest, then they would have good synergy with a warlock (IMO, others would know those classes better than I do... for now :) ).

I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to trying out instances with my group in WotLK.

Ah, I already took Shadow Priest into consideration but disguarded it pretty quickly due to it being more complex than hunter (or anything else in my team). Yes, the DPS boost to my lock would be very nice, but likewise if I spec'd fire on my mage and used pure fire spells on my lock.

In all honesty I'm looking for classes with simple DPS mechanics and group utility, and I don't feel like hunter gives me the latter, and that SPriest would be hell to DPS with while running 3 other toons. (Gotta keep, VT, VE, SW;Pain up then run MF, MB, and a SW;Death rotation into it to max his DPS, not fun! :D )

*At this point here I ran off and started to figure out some stuff, forgetting to post, so I'll add what I thought of :D*

Right, as my preamble states I've done some thinking!

I've finalised my team, going to run with;
Resto Druid, Elem Shaman, Destro Lock, *insert spec* mage.

Now the problem I'm having is regarding my mage's spec. I could spec Deep Fire and boost my lock's DPS, which seems logical... But me not enjoying Fire AT ALL (no, not even to look at) I've been looking into Arcane spec's!

Arcane fire: Eg, PoM pyro, big burst, and boosting my teams DPS.
Arcane Frost: DPS feels more stable with it, survival increase, loads of CC.

Any thoughts? Or should I just get them to 70, try some instances and figure out what works best? :D

"Around the corner" is a fairly imprescise term

It feels very close when you have 3 character to level and gear ;)

I went with Frost for all 3 of my mages at the beginning and it was fine... until I ran into some mobs in some early instance that had a high resilient to frost. Luckily I had fireball or scorch already keyed in. I decided to respec and was going to have 1 Frost, 1 Fire and 1 Arcane, but decided to go with 3x Deep Fire.

I made a thread in the Mage's forums and asked which spec is best for 5-man, and the majority said deep fire for the DPS. Basically, in a 5-man, Mages are DPS and Sheeping.

Try the spec that you want, you can always change it later.

I have found that Arc/fire mages are better than frost ones for Heroic 5 mans. You need to burn down mobs very fast. Arc/fire does that very well.

3 locks also good
3 shammys also good
3 hunters are even good

Ok, I have now tried both Arcane Fire and Arcane frost (solo). Arcane fire's burst is absolutly crazy, not to mention it's DPS is always very high I was only using fire spells. With Arcane Frost I was surprised, I felt like a hybrid mage tbh, using arcane and frost spells, spamming frost bolts until I get a clearcast and mauling my Arcane missles button then :P

Meh looks like I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the help guys =]
