View Full Version : h and i builds stop responding, had to go back to g, last stable for me

The 'h' and 'i' builds will just randomly stop responding. There doesn't seem to a specific trigger, it may be some kind of timing related issue.

The UI doesn't respond, so you cannot close it through the application to recycle it.

You have to kill it through task manager.

'g' does not seem to have this problem.

This behavior has occurred on all 3 of my machines, all are Windows XP based.

It occurred more frequently on my single processor boxes than my dual processor box.

Thanks,

-Scott

I am seeing the same issue with version i on 6 machines, only one keeps locking up/freezing - can't seem to find whats different on that machine than the rest. Still researching.

I've had 1.8i die on me once. I was in the middle of something and hadn't really been paying attention (my toons were all still on follow so I had no idea when it had happened) so I just restarted it and didn't give it a second thought. I post it here though for Rob's attention.

I blame murlocs (for everything basically).

Edit: It died again.

is there a version before 1.8g that's available for download still?

i believe you can get all of the separate downloads from SolidIce.com keyclones website.
Just look in the downloads section if not there then the developers comments or something like that.
ooo btw.....are you guys on wireless connections? Sounds like a similar problem I had and couldnt get the wireless firewall to let the keyclone to work. You might try launching the keyclones with ADMIN rights.

As I've mentioned in a couple of the other threads, I have the same problem and have PMd as much information about the problem as I can muster to Keyclone, but when last I heard (Sunday), he had been unable to reproduce the problem.

1.8G is available for download on the Solidice website.

i was investigating this 'issue' this weekend. crawling the code is one thing, play testing another...
i did a play test from 8pm to about 2am 5 boxing across 2 machines, one xp... one vista.
no disconnects at any time (although i did get wiped once in rfc... i was getting tired and my lowbie rogues need better gear)

i will continue to look for this issue, but it is difficult if i cannot reproduce.

Hi Rob,

I've had two more crashes (running on Windows XP 64). All my clients are now on the one machine. I'm sending the crash reports though I'm not sure if you're set up to receive them. I'm currently suffering horrendous network performance if that's likely to be a factor.

If there's anything I can do to help identify the problems, let me know.

@Maz
please be specific. was it a crash where the app executed an illegal operation.. or a hang, where it just stopped responding.

also, a dump will do no good, so don't bother sending it. thanks anyhow

I get a crash every now and then on i. It usually happens when i use mute... Sometimes it happens right away and some times has to be on mute for a little while. Using windows vista and the mute button is the default pause button. When i get the crash a windows window opens saying that program is not responding and needs to be closed. When i click "ok" keyclone closes, but my wow instances are still up but key are not passed (i know they are not passed because keyclone is not up). It only seems to happen as soon as i play (about 5-10 min into it) then i get the error. I close down my wows and rerun keyclone and don't have a problem.

I hope that this helps a little.

In using version i yesterday, I had two crashes... weird ones.

Main Computer XP SP2 - 3 Toons (only other app I had running was Firefox in the background)
2nd Computer XP SP2 - 2 Toons

My main computer "froze" up... well, at least the video did. I was still able to control all 5 toons from my 2nd computer.

Had to task manager and force quit all of them and reboot.

This happened after about 1.5 hours of play.

It seemed like it happened when I was rotating the view with my mouse then about to click on an quartermaster NPC in Skettis. The 2nd time was when I was rotating the view with my mouse and about to click to bomb the eggs in Skettis. (it might all be coincidence though... because I haven't been able to have it repeat)

This happened twice, so I switched back to version G, and haven't had a problem the rest of the day and today.

Let me know if you need any specific information and I'll try to reproduce it and actually gather more info while playing... instead of just playing. :)

Yep, same issue with me. Version i only stops working on one box though. I have two XP Pro systems and one Vista Home edition. My laptop running XP has had numerous hangups that required a reboot to clear.

Reinstalled G on all 6 computers Lock ups on the one machine went away.

1 computer XP Home edition sp3 - failing/locking up with version h and i (within 30min of heavy usage 100% of the time)

2 computers XP Pro SP3, 1 XP Media Center 2002 SP3, 1 VIsta Permium sp1, 1 Vista Ultimate sp1

Could there be an issue with SP3 on Windows XP Home? Tested with version f also worked without lockups.

I've been getting random but rare lock ups for months ... usually happens on my Vista box but has happened on XP as well.

I reverted to 1.8G last night, played for 6 hours and had no lock-ups at all.

Bliss.

Guess I'm stuck on G :)

@Rob

I'm not ignoring you; I just haven't had any trouble the last few days.

I'm currently running Keyclone on my XP32 laptop but running my rogue on my XP64 machine without Keyclone as I don't want to rebuild his UI just for boosting purposes. So XP64 isn't getting a workout at the moment which may be why I'm not seeing any problems.

If I do have any more problems I'll be sure to take the time to gather some info for you.

on sunday, i started keyclone on my desktop (xp) and my laptop (vista)... played about 12+ hours since... and they are both still connected and still running.

it's getting to a point that i am wondering if anyone experiencing any problems are running the same program.

I suppose that depends if you're running the published 1.8i build. I certainly was :)

Something broke after 1.8g. It doesn't affect everyone - not every "most" people by the look of things - but it's there.

i'm not disagreeing... it's just damn tough to pin down if i can't reproduce.

i was thinking it had something to do with the speeds of the machines.. and with that, pointed me towards a thread contention or exception... and when i thought about the garbage collection i was doing...

i made a tweak but won't be able to test until tonight. of course, my test won't mean squat... so.. who would be willing to be a guinea pig that is currently experiencing these problems?

I've been experiencing these odd lockups with version i as well so would be happy to test out the next version.

i was reading thru these posts and didnt realize that I was having the same problem.

Thought my problem was a video problem and not related to keyclone. My crashes have occurred in new areas and usually involving a mini boss. I have 3 on one machine and usually one will lock up with display saying program is not responding and needs to close. When I close it, then the game closes. Leaving my toon in a bad place to be. lol

I thought the problem was related to my video and maybe my trying to max out the useage somehow. Its only happened on the VISTA machine though. Usually when I am deep in combat and I am punching keys like crazy or trying to turn or something.

Wondering if maybe theres a glitch where too many key presses causes the problem? Not sure but just adding my two-cents. I just restart and go about my business. Just seems that this crash occurs only during intense combat.

One more thing....crash only happens on one client...the others are fine...which again is wierd.

@Rob,

Just to let you know, I've had no trouble since I stopped using Keyclone on XP64. My XP32 box is completely stable.

I'll update when I start boxing on the desktop again.

Seems like I have a relatively quiet weekend coming up, so I'd be happy to give this a shot if you still need people to test it for you. Drop me a PM with the download link :)

.. just realized this is the same problem I'm having on Vista as well. When I am mashing buttons in a boss fight or I spam my totem button, occasionally one of the clients will crash out with an error and I will have to restart it. This started with the latest wow patch but then again keyclone also was updated recently (currently using 1.8i), so I wasn't sure what the cause was.

Hi, just back 'boxing after a few weeks off to move house and I'm afraid I've had to revert back to 1.8g as 1.8i was locking up on this PC fairly regularly.

FYI, my setyup is main PC (DualCore, 4Gb RAM, XP Pro) running 1 client and connected to second PC running 4 clients.
Second PC hasn't had any problems with 1.8i, so I've left it on that version.

When it "locks up", Task Manager still shows KeyClone as running (ie. not 'Not Responding') but I can't bring the KeyClone window into focus and it isn't sending keys across.
I end up killing the process and firing it up again.

Didn't have this problem before 1.8i (skipped h due to house move), so I've reverted to g so I can hit a dungeon :)

If I can do anything to help track/diagnose the issue, just ask.

Downloaded 1.8j and just finished a 3 hour session with no lockups or any problems of any kind.

Update... another 6h 5-boxing today and zero problems again. Five very happy 'locks :)

Thanks Keyclone

Wish I'd had the same luck :( 5 hours with 1.8j beta yesterday, 3 total lockups of the same kind as before, so back to G for me.

Oh well.
