The Logitech G15 Keyboard is a fan favorite among gamers, with it's flashy lcd panel, backlit keys, and up to 18 programmable keys on the side.

My woman gave me one of those smoking keyboards for Christmas and tomorrow The Burning Crusade comes out. Time for me to finally start twoboxing.

My current setup involves a G15 and the broadcast-capable mod of Synergy.

Once I get it worked out after a few dozen levels, I will write up a report/guide.

I got the G15 for my last birthday and I LOVE it. I don't use the macro keys that much (will try once I figure out the broadcast keystroke thing) but the lit keys, and touch are great. Plus the latest Ventrilo has a plugin for it so I don't have to mess with overlay programs etc., just look down at LCD to see who's talking.

I got one over the holidays and it's a pretty spiffy keyboard. It actually features an extremely easy to use and robust macro recorder and such.

The profiles feature is quite good as it basically acts like autohotkey, albeit a bit less powerful. For example, I have my 18 macro keys. If I go to my WoW profile (also an option to auto detect programs opening and setting the appropriate profile, WoW actually has a profile built into the keyboard already. :) ) And then those 18 macro keys are loaded with the macros you specified for WoW. Close WoW, open Guild Wars, it loads the GW profile, and the 18 macro keys are different.

Speaking of macro keys, the keyboard actually features *54* keys per application. If you look at the top left corner of the keyboard, you'll see three buttons titled M1 M2 M3. These are 3 different "modes" which is logitechs silly way of saying "Three different groups of 18 macro keys". So, you could have all you combat macros on M1, crafting macros on M2, and... some other macros on M3. It's not really all that practical for WoW as you don't need THAT many macros, but for other games, especially in depth RTS's, it can be quite useful.

I 2box a rogue + priest, using a G15 to control the priest. I've got it set up so that the top row of each set casts a particular heal/shield/whatever on the rogue, and the bottom row on the priest, with the very bottom set reserved for /fol and other utilities.

I wish they made an ergo version, and I'd switch my main kb over to one as well.

Ergo? You mean one of them wavy things that are supposed to help your back?

First of all, I've never had 1 of those and using a completely standard keyboard actually easens any backpains I might have - matter of getting enough training in it before your body gets old I suppose. Second, could you even imagine how HUGE that'd be?

I have a G15, but I keep going back to the N52. Still a nice keyboard though.

Has anyone figured out how to send non-standard keystrokes from the G-Keys? For example any of the unicode keys you would find... I saw a reference to this in Xzin's post on the X-Keys, however since I have a G15 and a Nostromo N52 i'm not in a hurry to go dump another $100...

I'm with Zanthor on this... I is a bit of a waste that my g15 can only replicate the keystrokes already available on my keyboard layout...

hmm maybe changing the keyboard layout to a Scandanavian or french layout will expose some of the keystrokes for capture by the profile app.

They are not standard keystrokes.

If you look in the USB multiplexer thread there is some quick info Inire posted from Vetra.

Basically the G15 is actually 4 USB devices.

1 - standard Keyboard
2 - LCD
3 - G-keys
4 - USB hub

I have a G15 - have had it since it came out, and I absolutely love it.

They are actually coming out with a re-make of the board, which looks like a more realistic version of the current model. I love the fact that, if you look closely, they are actually displaying the WoW features on the built-in LCD. 8)

That "new" G15 is a "G15 Keyboard", not to be confused with the previous "G15 Gaming Keyboard".

the new one also has a better LCD and different color LEDs backlighting the keys. For MultiBoxing I think the G11 or G15 Gaming would be best.

.. thinking about it.. I only actually use 1 gkey on the main box .. the other 2 boxes use N52s that I only use 6 keys on .. hehe .. but that is just me.

I'd say thats some form of error state, I'd contact Logitech if the basics of unplugging, replugging, etc don't work for you. I can't get my MR key to flash at all, it's either on, or off... and if it's on, the LCD indicates what to do next.

at first i thought id pretty much wasted money on this over a standard 101 keyboard. then after a while i started utilizing the keys a little bit more.. asigning difficult keystrokes that i normally wouldnt use to the extra keys (ctrl+alt+a, etc).. which is handy. then i started testing with the macro ability a bit..

in shadowbane i run 10 characters of different classes. bards chant mana regeneration and resist songs and group dispel.. druids earthquake, group heal.. etc.. binding separate keys and functions for every class individually would be horrible. running multiple macros would be horrible. with the G15 i can press a single button and it automates every single keypress. i can simple press it when i want to start casting and then press it again when i want it to stop. its so simple i can run an entire group with almost no effort.

I have a G15, and just an alt computer I can use for watching movies and stuff, that sits next to me. I'm not like you guys, I don't have 5 accounts, I have one. However, I love the g15. Have you guys gotten any KVM switch to switch both quickly and completely using the G15? I mean where the macros work and so does the backlighting?

I have the IOgear mini usb kvm, and that doesn't work. Once again I know this is lightweight compared to you guys but I am just wondering if anyone has any tips for this.

The MR button flashes when you are recording a quick macro, try these steps.

1 - Make sure the MR button is not flashing by pressing it until it stops, if it doesn't stop after say 5 presses, your KB is broke and you need a new one.

2 - Go into the G15 profiler and set up your World Of Warcraft macro hotkeys like you want them, G15 actually supply you with a handful if you don't know what to fill them up with.

3 - Once you have set these up, go into game, ensuring that "World of Warcraft" pops up on your G15 LCD screen and after you log in to your character, your stats appear on it.

4 - Try pressing one of your macro hotkeys.

5 - If it doesn't work, post here with as much info as you can and I'll see what I can do to help, I know some stuff about the G15 as I tend to learn from my mistakes. :P (I made a truck load when I first got my G15)

Now that I've switched from casually 2 boxing to aggressively 5 boxing I've really become disillusioned with the G15 Gaming Keyboard. My main issue is the 18 macro keys. I've found them difficult to program right, timings are a PAIN, and they add a lot of width to the keyboard that really becomes a strain when you have 2+ mice on the right hand side, and a game pad on the left hand side. Also, when 5 boxing, 18 keys just isn't enough IMHO but I'm still working out my strategy.

A year after purchase though the feel is still good, backlighting still works, and the LCD is the only way I can deal with Ventrilo so...

Pros and Cons...

No there is inherent delay in using KVMs because they are not designed for fast interaction just to reduce clutter on your desk/server/cabinet/etc by reducing the amount of hardware you need to run each pc/server. If you use just a keyboard/mouse (KM) it will be a bit faster and as for the display and lighting look for one that is also a powered USB hub, that will help.

I have a G15 and love it a lot, I dont use too many macro keys due to how I play but Im almost to the point where I need them (n52 is 80% full and numpad only has 3 buttons left to use)

The G15 is 4 usb devices in 1 and is not compatible 100% with a KVM.

Device 1: USB Keyboard
Device 2: USB Hub
Device 3: USB LCD Display
Device 4: USB HID (G-Keys)

Only the USB Keyboard function will operate through a KVM or KM switch and I'd wager the same for a USB Vectra.

I've had my g15 for a while now, and I would not use this keyboard for my multiboxing. In the simple pvp I use it for, the software completely sucks.
It will remap my keys to somewhere else, which is awesome when you hit the key for CoS and it tries to use the mount. :/

Oh and it doesnt have enough power to feed most storage devices through the usb ports on it, which for me sucks because I use flash drives all the time :(
