View Full Version : Begginer needing some quick advice
Begginer
hey im a newb, wanting to try out some dual or tri boxing, just wondering, i read the hardware guides and stuff but i can run 5 minimized wows with 1 covering the screen fine with minimal lag, i was wondering if this would be a good example of how it would play in the game with the maximizer, with maybe 2 or 3? I got 30fps on my main screen but im used to 60 so this small lag from characters isn't big.
Windows XP
2.80 ghz 2.79 ghz 3g ram and old 6200 Nvidia and i dont know if this maters but i got addon hardware for 150g space, just plz tell me what you think, i think i have a 1 core processor not 2. thx
any ideas or opinons please?

You might be able to get 2 running but more than that is probably going to be a no go.
5 box needs:
Quad Core cpu(Q6600 is the common one used i believe)
4 gb ram
8800gt or better GPU

when you want to run 5 at once.. and you want to see them.. you will experience decreased fps due to all the other windows pushing frames as well.
additionally, you will experience another drop off in fps due to the other wows attempting to render the scenes.
the best way to optimize would be to set your maxfpsbk to between 5 and 10 (fps performance on the background, non-active, wows doesn't matter.. so, the lower the better).. and set your maxfps to between 24 and 30 (24 == movie quality, 30 == tv, standard def). after that, tweak for your preferences and hardware capabilities
i'm on an amd 3800+ 2.2 GHz single core w/ 3G of memory and a 8800GT OC. i'm am currently 5 boxing on dual monitors, each @ 1280x1024 and getting 5/30 in a 1 + 2x2 maximizer layout. when i'm doing pve, no problems... orgrimmar is a bit tough. :D
so no 3 boxing? but if i 3 box with like 3 shamans or something i dont need to see all the screens right?

seeing the screens is up to you. technically, you could set you fps to 1/45 and leave them in the background... never seen unless you alt-tab or pip swap them.
personally.. i like being able to glance over and see that everything is ok. once in a while, i'll find something chewing on one of my clones which i didn't notice on my main

Hey, I'm Currently 5 boxing.
I have an Athlon64 3000+ 2,5GB of Ram and a 6600 256MB and I have only Problems in OG. I'm most of the Time Instancing so I have no Problems. I'm Running with middle details and on 1024x768 on one Monitor. And I can here music and surf while playing. I don't know why is everyone talking about u need this uber things ;) it's running well @ my.
But I'm Upgrading next Month and using this Computer as Second.
Your grafx card is a bit low , but I guess you could run 3 , if your grafx card has enough MB.
personally.. i like being able to glance over and see that everything is ok. once in a while, i'll find something chewing on one of my clones which i didn't notice on my main
Then there's anything wrong, if this happens;) espacially in the outlands I think Instances are so designed that you're going forward, ok some pats here and there but it's normal isn't it?
I'm know inside SM and had no Problems till here. Ok I didn't have expierienced this comfortable way but I'm going to check this out, if I don't quit boxing or something.
thx a ton guys for the help, i'll give it a try sometime soon, gotta get keyclone first though ( =
