View Full Version : Prat, and it's Delay macro command

So I recently noticed Prat has a neat macro command '/in' that allows a unsecured action (chat, text and such, no /cast-ing though) to be delayed.
I.e.
/in 4 /s HI GUYS!
So you push the macro, and in 4 seconds, it says that.
Well I am very wary of delays because I don't want to get my accounts banned, so I asked in the customer service forums.
Long post short, I'd stay away from using the /in command.

Yeah... as a general rule, avoid anything that causes or has a delay.
Better to be safe then sorry.

Interessting.
Because this Command is part of Ace2.

For Fun Macro: Conversation? ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=5503&pageNo=1&highlight=conversation')
So Could become Ace a problem?
And isn't it used in Bossmods?

I agree, It can't be used to do anything important, but I can't argue with the fact that the GM said it would be a bad idea to use it, lol.

Yeah, I know.
BUT
If the command is used in Ace2-Addons, so you could call a function that uses this command for "Addon-functability".
So if you run a Ace2Addon, you will get in trouble because the Addon could use this function (because its in the libary) - And if all Ace2-Users are banned, Blizz will loose a lot of customers.
Blizz could only fix this if it was patched - like the Aoe-Makro.

I'm thinking this might be fixed soon because of the Shaman Fire nova totem bug.
It can be done with out the /in command but it does make it easier.

This has been covered, officially, on the WoW forums. Blizzard allows delays on non-secure functions, such as chat/timers/RaidWarnings. IIRC they said they could disable this ability if they wanted to, but it is a part of their API.
I'd love to post a Blue reference, but I don't have the time to find it. Check the macros and Ui forum

Have you been able to do it since the recent patch, because I sure can't.
If you can, please let me know how.... there are sooo many gold spammers on my server.

I've only done it once a few days ago, then thought better of it. No sense in getting banned.
But i will leave you with this

Actually he meant that using a G15 or some other external system to general a delay was bad, but a delay generated using the in-game systems was fine. Scroll down to the end of the thread -- he clarifies.

Guys this is the quote from the blue response (emphasis is mine)
No, time delays inserted into a Macro are almost always not okay - this is largely part of the reason why certain macro functions of the G15 can cause account actions, as well as the macro functions attached to some of the newer gaming mice.
That said, our base macro 'language' does not allow for delays on 'hardware' events. Communication based delays specifically shouldn't be an issue . the last paragraph is the key point here, reading between the lines, he is saying that the built0in scripting engine can't be used for delays and hardware events and therefore is safe to use. If they don't want this functionality they will change the engine, much the same way they removed minimap ping :( will just re-iterate this Communication based delays specifically shouldn't be an issue
As it uses The built-in macro language you are safe... if Blizzard decide they don't like it they will issue a warning, it is very unlikely there will bans on something that is epidemic in wow community
