Well, not for a while, but I still thought I'd ask before my group gets too high and I find out this is not viable.

I'm having plenty of fun on my normal chars with my RL friends on Icecrown. I have rolled a Holy Priest + 4x Afflication locks (all BEs) on Hakkar. I'm looking to make them primarily a BG group, but I need to get them geared. I realize the Arena System is generally how people do this is to engage in the legendary "lose 10 games a week" methodology. I have a few questions about this and whether or not it will really be practical for me. First, does this method actually result in people getting gear at season's end? I realize that you can buy the gear as soon as you have the arena currency for it (that is, if I'm thinking of this properly). Really, I just want to know how effective it is to do this overall. And furthermore, is there anything I need to do besides that?

I have not yet invested too much time into these characters, so I may just reroll them on my main realm (I've got plenty of room there) and see what happens. I'd rather have my ultra-powerful main characters funnel them things through the neutral AHs (unless this have been deemed exploit, I haven't kept abreast of this situation).

How well have people here been able to handle these sorts of things? And finally, I get the '10 games a week rule,' but would it benefit me to lose more games inside of a week than 10? I get the basic arena system concepts, but I have not had the time to work out the details myself.

Thanks.

I asked the same question a while back. This is what i got. Do AV at lvl 60 because we will owne everyone there (lvl required 51-60). Do the others at lvl 69. Get all your gear that you want from pvp before you get to 70. At 70 you will get owned if you have no pvp gear.

This is what i am planning to do (unless i feel like just pure lvling them to lvl 70, I'm multi boxing more for pve then pvp). Buy the time i reach 60 i will be 5 boxing (4 sham and a pally). I will probably start with 2 boxing to get the hang of it and once i start getting the hang of it i will increase until i get all 5 there. I'm thinking the wsg would be the best for my team have the other members guard the flag and i can rush theres. Have the pally get the flag and run it back. If they get our i'll have the other members get it back and i will defend (let me know if anyone thinks different or if there is a post of bg ideas).

That much I get. In my 50's, I need to do AV. Sounds like a plan just for the pure HK numbers I'll rack up. My next question is what currency I need to rack up? Tokens? Honor, obviously. But what else? Also, I was of the opinion that you needed to handle the arenas in order to get the real gear you are after. What else is there? I know that the PvP vendors in various locations have other things available. I take it that I need to go through one of those vendors?

Spend the day or hour and Just do the PVP to see if you like it. If you don't, move on.

Only you will know once you've done it.

I enjoy PvP just fine. I only need to know if there is even a point in my attempting it right now.

I guess fun / enjoyment / getting your moneys worth doesn't count then?

Ooooohhhh. Food for thought. You got me...

But seriously, I'm just wondering what the best way of going about things are since I realized I'm going to have plenty of failures that I would like to mix in a success or two with. And if fun didn't count for anything, I wouldn't be MBing at all since it's quite the time and money sink :)

in my opinion, you should do whichever is best for your own personal enjoyment

keep the following in mind:

at level 60 AV and 69 wsg/ab/eots, you will hopefully out gear / level most people in the battle grounds. This means you will do very well against them, and it will be a good chance to hone your skills while not getting frustrated by "getting stomped". However, you won't be accumulating Arena points!

At 70, there will be a *HUGE* gear difference between you and your opponents. You will constantly find yourself up against full gladiators or worse, full vengeful opponents, in BG and arena. However, you *WILL* be able to get your 10 games per week in arenas, which means you will be able to start saving towards getting that sweet vengeful/brutal gear.

My advice: Try AV at 60. Try AB/EOTS/WSG at 69. If you have fun, stay there for a week or more. If it's dull/boring, move on.

Personally, my group has more of a PVE focus so i skipped the BG's at the sub-levels. However i think i might have had more fun doing em at 69 where everyone doesnt have like 2x your hp.

This seems to be the most common advice I get, so I think I'll go that route. I've rerolled the group on my main's server so I can funnel things through goblin AHs. Question: When you say a 'week,' do you mean a week of typical play schedule or literally 7 * 24 hours of playtime? I hate to ask such noobish questions, but that's because I was mostly a PvE junkie when I solo boxed and never ever stuck my head inside BGs except only to see them so I could say I'd done it. I've always wanted to try them, but I could never dedicate myself to putting the effort until now.

hehe i didn't mean a week of played time, I meant a week of RL time. The reason I am talking in terms of weeks, is that the # of weeks you stay in a lower BG tier, is the # of weeks you have "wasted" as far as arena gear is concerned.

If you want to think in terms of gear, each week you spend in a lower BG tier, is about 300 arena points you could have gotten at 70 (even a BAD rated 5v5 team will still get 270+ points). So that's about 1/5 or 1/6 of a vengeful epic.

Any reason why you went BE over undead...WoTF is a superior racial than Arcane Torrent IMO. Fear Bombs can ruin your day!

It really comes down to what you want to do for "your" end game. Do you want to do arena or heroics (maybe even raids). I really don't like pvp at all, this is my personal perferance. I love to raid, quest, and do heroics. I will probably do enough bg to just get the gear that i need so i can do heroics easily. I know that pvp doesn't do that well in pve, but if a pvp purple is going to replace a bad green or blue then it will be worth the trade. So i will probably only pvp for like a month just to get the gear that i want and then farm heroics for better pve stuff.

The other thing that you have to watch out for is that season 1 is to be going away soon so it might be better to save your bg honor for season 2. Plus 90% of the season 4 gear is rank required so if you don't have a rank of 1600 you can probably only get 2 or 3 pieces of season 4 (i might be a little off, but going off of memory). But in the end it is up to you in what you want to do if you want your end game to be pvp then stay in lvl 60/69 to get enough tokens and honor to get all your pvp gear. As soon as you get to lvl 70 and have no pvp gear you will be dead in 2 shots.

Aesthetics. Nothing more. That, and most people in BGs aren't going to be able to get close enough to me unless they gang up on me, and gang-ups kill MBers anyway so it really doesn't matter that much.
