View Full Version : Baron Rivendare Suggestions?

I'm now 62 and did my first try on the Baron last night which did not go well at all. I only tried once since I had already cleared both sides and my shield was shot by then but is the Holy Water the only way to go on this fight? After farming 30 of them for the pally mount and the collection quest times 5, I don't particularly feel like getting more but it seems that may be my best option. Any alternative suggestions? Thanks.

Fire nova totems? Stagger drops of stoneclaw to keep skellys attention....

I thought about this but given the cd on fire nova, I wasn't sure. Like I said, I only got one shot so I haven't had a chance to experiment. I've only done this boss once before on my main and though I read up on it and the knew the adds were coming, on most bosses this isn't an issue with the pally if I know where they spawn or where they are coming from. In this case, I wasn't aware they spawn all around the room. Thanks though.

DPS Toon 1:
/castsequence lightning bolt, lighting bolt, lightning bolt, chain lightning

DPS Toon 2:
/castsequence lightning bolt, chain lighting, lightning bolt, lightning bolt

DPS Toon 3:
/castsequence lightning bolt, lightning bolt, chain lighting, lightning bolt

+ 4x Magma Totems down for skeletons. Or you can use Searing Totems if you need more range.

This will minimize wasted chain lightning jumps, and spread out the damage more. You can also pull Baron OUTSIDE of his little "house" around the backside.. sometimes helps with positioning issues. You can get your whole Shaman team setup and ready, then pull the Baron out with the pally using Avengers Shield. I did it this way once for fun - turned out to work really well.

Hmm, those chain lightnings will take them down?

Googleing this boss to get more info, I came across the pull to the outside strategy on the WoW forums but it was an old post and I couldn't find anything else on it so I thought maybe it had been changed. I think I will attempt that strategy first. Thanks.

Gonna post a little information here

Stratholme Holy Water
Binds when picked up
Use: Inflicts between 438 and 562 damage to Undead in a 10 yard radius. ('http://www.wowdb.com/spell.aspx?id=17291')

Fire Nova TotemRank 6

640 ManaInstant cast15 sec cooldown

Tools: Fire Totem ('http://www.wowdb.com/search.aspx?browse=1&filters=42=4')
Summons
a Fire Nova Totem that has 5 health and lasts 5 seconds. Unless it is
destroyed within 4 sec., the totem inflicts 518 to 578 fire damage to
enemies within 10 yd.

This is the untalented fire nova totem and with no +damage either. So i would expect yours to hit for harder , you could stagger these out as well say every 4 ish seconds? That would be like throwing down a holy water every 4 seconds untalented and with no additional spell power....

Sounds quite doable to me, and thats not even including the damage from consecrate from your pally....

Random theory crafting ... I am obviously not that high a level yet so really have not tried and tested input to provide...

Interesting stuff there, thanks.

If the outside pull doesn't work I may have to go for a staggered castsequence macro of stoneclaw and fire nova.

Get the holy water. There's always at least 1 safe box of it around his hideout(a different box marked with a Medic/Redcross + sign) and it works quite well without wasting a totemslot or cd.

Also, while not technically a solution to your skele issue, there IS one other thing you can do to up dps on Baron for this fight: Medallion of Faith. Either get it from the Archivist's room in Live/Scarlet side of Strath, or buy one off the AH, and give it to the dude in the Chapel right at the Back Door entrance to Strath; if you do(and only 1 person can per run) he'll show up and help you kick Baron's ass midfight. I didn't know this till I triboxed ('http://home.comcast.net/~gotnks2/WoW/21vsBaln.jpg') it and turned it in for exp/rep purposes only to be surprised when I aggro'd baron to have a human paladin show up out of nowhere and start smacking Baron around.

Only thing I can recommend is roll hunters :)

Not sure why you would be having trouble, one of my hunter pets can tank the baron for the entire fight. My best tanking pet has about 6800 armor and 5200 health, and no boosted resistances. I also only have 4 hunters. All I do is run in there, pop beastial wrath and go to town. Once the skeletons come out I simply lay 4 exploding traps.

Are you wearing tanking gear for your pally? I would imagine even a pally in non tanking gear would still be better than a hunter pet. The fire nova totems should easily wipe out all the skeletons when they come out, cuz hunter fire traps kill them right when they explode and they really don't do that much damage.

And how is it not going well? Is baron hitting your paladin hard? Are the skeletons overwhelming you? Is the pally losing aggro?

Yeah, I did that quest, see below for more.

Tanking was definately not my issue, it was the skeletons and the inability to keep them off my shaman. I had only done this encounter once prior to boxing and only tried once while boxing and just thought I'd ask for suggestions here before I could get back in. Anyhow, I did it again last night and set my shaman up outside, picked my tanking spot on the stairs with my shaman 30 yards away to be out of the aura and so the skeletons would be aggroed by my consecrate. Probably would have been quicker if I had killed the skeletons but he went down in one shot anyways. I think doing it in his room would be viable, but I didnt really know the encounter and wasn't prepared for the skeletons, much less aware of their low health. I also did the Medallion of Faith quest again and the guy came out to the stairs to help.

I am now officially done with Azeroth as I have cleared all 5 mans including their quest (except the milked one in LBRS, I think it would be easy, just seems like a pain) so I am off to Outlands...

You WANT a Dwarf to milk you? .... :P

Dunno why I didn't think of this before... When the first wave of skeletons hit, blow holy wrath. :D

But since you're done, its too late to try that idea.

Yeah, but how long would that two second cast take with the Baron beating on me? Plus don't you lose all avoidance while casting?

LOL, good point...
