new version now available

v1.8i alpha

--
o add: wow resolution per region
o bug: mouse-map not working without focus-follows-mouse
o bug: mouse-map not always triggering

edit: removed link to alpha ... please get official v1.8i

v1.8h
--
o change: will no longer push_focus if key down and mouse over another window
o add: added 'strict' to do-not-pass (checked == only exact keys will not be passed) - leave UNCHECKED to remove runaways
o bug: possible network drop between machines
o bug: auto-add adding blank line for explorer.. now blocking any blank titles
o bug: alt hotkey for pip swap
o add: ability to export/import maximizer layout (maximizer profiles)
o add: added misc panel to the setup... now allows for clearing of command history
o bug: pip performance - swap big window to small window to avoid performance issue
o bug: fixed 'focus-follows-mouse' weirdness when click-drag on 2nd screen window (keeping you out of a window)
o add: mouse wheel up/down for mouse map
o add: modified maximizer to enable resolution selection
o bug: commands will now start in the directories of the target application

i'm happiest with the smoothness of the focus-follows-mouse... let me know how it works for you.

For some reason, mouse-map doesn't work anymore and doesn't transmit as it should. Anyone else noticed it with 1.8h ?

Got to try this out tonight.

Hey Rob. I'm new to multi-boxing and keyclone (just installed yesterday). How do i do an update to keyclone?

Hey Keyclone,

So I grabbed version 'h' today and tried out the resolution functionality. Is there no way to have resolution per maximizer region? I ask because my setup is as follows:

Monitor is at 2560x1600 widescreen resolution
I have 4 regions spread evenly across the top that are approx. 640x480 (actually 1 pixel less on all sides to avoid any overlap)
The 5th region is across the bottom and is 1680x1050.
Previsouly I had my main wow video settings at 1680x1050 so that I had a nice widescreen resolution on the main where I spend 99% of my time and 800x600 on the other 4 windows since that is the smallest res they support. However, with your changes to include resolution in maximizer, I cannot use this setup anymore. It appears I can only set all 5 windows to have the same resolution, something I don't want to do as I don't want 800x600 on my main and I don't want to waste the extra cycles rendering 1680x1050 into 4 windows that are only 640x480 in size.

Is there a way to either set up the resolution per region in maximizer or a way to just tell maximizer "leave resolution alone like you used to"?

Thanks.

Is the fix for the EQ issue that makes it require Innerspace included in this release?

keyclone
05-09-2008, 09:00 AM
@paladine
really? my mouse maps were working... hmph. what buttons do you have mapped? let me know and i'll test those

@Drizzit
to update your copy, make sure keyclone is not running.. then download the new version and unzip right over your existing copy. done. new versions will not effect your settings.

@Maiden
hmph. now they want res per region.. yea... i coulda seen that coming. :D
no problem... it's on the list and you should see it for next release

@Cdrx
sorry, but no. people were complaining too much about bugs in existing features, so that took priority.
EQ support is now back at the top of the list

any other feedback?

o bug: possible network drop between machines

This is awesome! I just going to send a PM about it to you when I saw the update. And a minor thing I like is the new override button graphic. Thanks so much!

For some reason, mouse-map doesn't work anymore and doesn't transmit as it should. Anyone else noticed it with 1.8h ?Yes, I am getting the same issue after the upgrade. I have my middle mouse button mapped to F5 and it only transmits to the active window I'm in.

In order to get this to work, I've had to check focus-follows-mouse on my main and it screws with the camera settings really badly. It sends me spinning all around the screen and then when I un-check it, the clones just stand there (I have my Right-Click mapped to my clones' assist macro set to the R key).

Mouse-map is sorta working now....only if I toggle the 'focus follows mouse' option.

As far as I can see, the event is transmitted to the other keyclones (the ......o... ) is moving, but no keypresses are happening.

The 'focus follows mouse' toggle does make it work, but now I can't work with other windows, since the moment I move the mouse, it brings WoW to the foreground.

I've gone back to 1.8g and that version works good.

I'm using the Microsoft Sidewinder, and I'm mapping x-button 1 and 2 to '5' and '=' respectively

do you have 'pass mouse clicks' enabled? please uncheck it

@paladine

The 'focus follows mouse' toggle does make it work, but now I can't
work with other windows, since the moment I move the mouse, it brings
WoW to the foreground. isn't that the point? the 'focus follows mouse' will activate the underlying window managed by keyclone. do you have them layered or something?

i'll have to try it without 'focus follows mouse' enabled (i have to admit... it's always enabled for me). that will have to wait until tonight

Where can I download version 1.8g?

My resolution wasn't listed so I just typed it in and so far it works fine. Maybe that'll help.

Had the same issue but I think I was spamming the keys at that moment, my FPS dropped to 1-5 or something and some commands were sent to the other clients about 3 seconds later or something like that, changed back to G, too.

Ive come a bit closer to this keypress lag problem

IMO it is being caused by the 'STRICT' option of the Whitelist
i use a whitelist only enabling the key's i want.
on that list are the usual 1-0, F1-F12, etc
but also my Gkeys which i have mapped to Ctrl-Alt-A, Ctrl-Alt-B, etc etc
Now i HAVE to use strict, cause otherwise the Ctrl-Alt-E addition to the whitelist, causes pressing JUST the E key to make my alts turn...

i think the lag problem is being caused by the strict option... every keypress using shift, alt or ctrl needs to be parsed to ensure it is the EXACT combination as it is on the whitelist....

Just pressing Shift makes my screen jerk around and fps drop to 5, if i keep shift or alt pressed in anticipation of a upcoming keypress, the game becomes unplayable... :S

guess im heading back to versionG for now too...

hope you can get your head around this KC, let me know if you need more feedback

Aspect ratio correction or whatever you'd call it, is not working. I run 2 machines with 2 clones each in a side-by-side config (2 regions). Now it crams the whole window into the region, so you get very tall and skinny looking players.

what did you select for a resolution? 800x600 might be the resolution you'd want.

also.. you can type any (wow supported) resolution into the resolution area... format must be <width>x<height>

ie:
800x600
1280x1024

@talos
yes.. i know the issue with the modifier.. that was an attempt to resolve the issue going between machines. (wow is being picky) works fine with notepads... wow is flaky. grr. the issue is not with strict, it's the modifier. that tweak will be removed for v1.8i

keep it up and awaiting 1.8i, for now ill return to 1.8g, worked nicely, and since i 5box on 1comp im in no need of most of the 1.8h updates.

My laptops have 1440X900 resolution. Split into two windows, that be 720x900 each window. When I set up with maximizer I'll get like 719x896 for example. That's no problem. I've tried manually editing to 720x900, no change. I got 800x600 in the combobox next to "maximizer enabled" checkbox. To me it looks like maximizer disregards height. It stretches the 600 pixel window over 900 pixels instead.

@talos
well.. there is a donate button on the main page :D
http://solidice.com/keyclone

@kayb
so.. what resolution would you normally choose?
in v1.8g .. you would have had 800x600 resolution (wow internal setting.. disregarded the keyclone suggestion when it finds nothing close)

hmph... how would you want it resolved? instead of 800x600 ... would you rather specify 'keyclone res' ... which would do what it did before?

kayb
05-10-2008, 01:47 PM
I've always run with 800x600 internal for the clones, and for a good while it's been perfect. I'd still get correct aspect ratio just by defining regions in maximizer. I remember a good while ago (probably 5-6 releases ago) there was the same aspect ratio problem as I see now, so you must have done something for the last release?

I'd keep it as it was in 1.8g. Dunno what your intentions were when changing it.

I'm also seeing more frequent crashes with 1.8h.

keyclone
05-10-2008, 02:18 PM
people were asking for the ability to set the resolution on a region.. that was no where near the resolution they specify.
ie: 1440x1080 in a window that is 800x600... so when they pip swap that window into the 1440x1080 region, it would look right

also, did you set the ratio on the maximizer screen? center bottom.. combo box. should default to 800x600.
i'm going to try and put in a '1-for-1' option in the res.. allowing you to have the same behavior as before (basically the resolution would be the width & height of the region)

btw, if you can reproduce a crash.. please tell me so i can try to fix it.

this morning... i've fixed the mouse map issue and the strange inconsistent button press problem. looking at the region res thing now.. hoping to push a release asap

1.8i that was perfect for me. I'm running 1 monitor 1360x768 with main and one 1680x1050 in portraitmode split on 2 windows. So have widescreen ratio on 1 window and 4:3 about on 2 windows, with 1.8h version that worked really bad.
Now it's really nice as I can set 1024x768 in also on the 2 small windows, and 1360x768 on my main window. I also had problem with focus on my mainwindow in h version that is working again now.
Thanks a lot :D

The issue I had with 1.8i have been random keyclone lockups on my main machine.
I actually had to kill the process via the taskmanager.

I wasn't able to see any pattern regarding those lockups but I went back to the previous version and had no issues in that respect so far.

I was having some issues with Keyclone randomly locking up with version "e" that I too had to use task manager to close it, however it only happenings on my laptop and my laptop is a P.O.S so I honestly am thinking that is what is causing it since it doesn't happen on my main machine.

@Tdog
try updating to v1.8i alpha and see how that works for you.

The crashes I'm experiencing are occurring most frequently on the machine on my right side, and sometimes the machine in the middle, but never on the machine on the left. I think it's related to override and/or dnp override. Anything more specific than that I cant be.

Something else has happened though. I've been using 1.8i since release now, and it's been fine (apart from some crashes), but now allovasudden the combination Alt+f will NOT be sent to the other clients. I cant remember having ticked off the "Strict" option, but selecting this fixed it. Just a curious thing that happened totally unexpected.

EDIT: Just as I went back ingame, KC on my left machine stopped responding =)
About the crashes: I can still toggle some buttons (at least for a little while until it locks up entirely) but it doesn't receive keyinputs. -*shrug*
And the keyclone process needs to be terminated from the task manager to be removed. Sometimes the icon in the lower right will not be removed before a reboot of windows.

I too get similair issues when one client just stops receiving commands, and needs to be killed by the task manager and restarted. Can't really pinpoint a cause atm either.

I tried the alpha version today and haven't gotten any lockups so far like in 1.8h.
I am gonna see how it goes but all is well for the time being :)

I also had a couple of instances where my slave would partially stop responding. I say partially because it would not process normal keys but would still pass hotstrings correctly. In my case it turned out that I had mucked up the upgrade (from g to h) of the slave machine. After fixing up the slave it has performed flawlessly again.

I'm having the random lockups too on my right-hand side machine. However, my left-hand side one is running 'g' right now. I'm going to download this and test. Thanks!

Thanks for the Update, i had problems at the weekend with the mouse keys not passing so i'll try the new 'i' release tonight.

I also had an issue with PiP. 2 x 22" monitors, 4 clones on right monitor and main char on left running in a bigger resolution/window. The game always froze if i tried using PiP, the main window would freeze unless i downsized the window itself to bring it back to life. Which was messy. I'll try that later too. Anyway, ta for update.

This version fixed the wierd lag issue when holding down modifier keys - and subsequently increased my fps on my main back up another 20fps.. thanks!

I'm running the alpha with the following configuration:

1st monitor: main @ 1680x1050 (1-1 maximizer)...forced 60FPS
2nd monitor: 4 clients @ 840x525 (800x600 maximizer)...forced 40FPS

So far its running flawlessly and the focus follow mouse is much smoother as well. Looking good so far.

This is on Vista Ultimate x64
