First presented as a Dual-Boxing IRC exclusive, I now present to you a brief story about my dual-boxing in a remote location with an average ping of 1800+ milliseconds.

I'm not sure if attempting to beat you is a good thing ;) Copy pasta for those of us unable to follow the link at work?

Eteocles-- I can get to the site from the middle of nowhere. Don't be such a technology/internet pussy!

Your corporate firewall issues are your own problem. :)

I was thinking about trying to multibox on my home computer from work. From what I remember remote desktop was slow and clunky. I don't really have any purpose for it, I just thought it might be fun.

i tried that, before they put a proxy server in at work, it was bad, you could do stuff like level a alt or something, but i coudln't do anything that required any kind of micro managment. But then they put in a proxy here and i've never been able to get around it.

I didn't multibox when I was there but I had 3800ms latency while spending my 2 months in southeast China. :P Talk about sucky. It wasn't too bad at 5am China time but prime time was sometimes even worse.

I think I have you beat. While deployed to Africa I got on 3 box style from a tent over a satcom HSWAN (High Speed Wide Area Network) connection through a PSC-5 tactical radio. Manda Bay Kenya was the closest "town" about 35 miles. Laptop power provided by a gold ol' fashon diesel generator on site. The mens room was a hole in the dirt. It was freaking monsoon season. Oh... and I was stuck with the SOCOM Navy SEALs (yes they have a game, and no until i met them i didn't think they were REAL people). They were of the mindset that if you didnt want to play them at Halo2 for the 50th time on one of the two 19" tube TVs you were... well they just didn't think you were straight, I'll leave it at that. Just giving you an idea of the climate.

Anyhow, it took about a week to get the patches downloaded using a download resume program. If you don't know SATCOM, a bird fling overhead can make you lose connection. The ping time was unreasonable.I wish I could remember the ping times but that was about two years ago now.

Images (not mine) of the rig for kicks:
