View Full Version : I suffer from Altitus - anyone else?

And in the multi-boxing world, Altitus is devastating. In case you don't know, Altitus is when you can never stick with one character, and constantly make and play new alts.

I'm amazed I even got my first multibox group to 60. I now made a new group which is pve focused, they are level 17 now. But everyday I read the forums and hear about the 4 mages that owned pvp, or the new melee team that is incredibly fun and actually doable.

Now I want to make 2xwarrior, 2xrogue, and 1xshaman. But really want to try 1xpally and 4xmage too! Does it ever end?! Anyone else have this problem? I find myself playing a group until they're out of rested experience, so then I have justification to play another group so the other ones can get more rest again. It's terrible!

And with WoTLK around the corner, I really need to decide on what group to get to 70.

I've literally lost count of the number of characters I've started now. Only 6 have ever reached max-level.

Hi, I'm OzPhoenix, and I'm an ALTaholic.

PS: 2 of those 6 were Hunters (my favourite) and I have two or three times now come so close to starting an All-hunter 5-box team...lol.

Technically it's not a bad thing...it's practically all I did in CoH(Oh shit I need to make a Freakazoid alt!...oh damn I can make a TFC Engineer!...wow I made a Terra/Cyan/Sabin lookalike!(all 3 not just one...lol)...LOL I MADE AN XBOX CHAR AND MADE IT FULL-HEIGHT/WEIGHT, XBOX IS HUEG LOLOL(I did do this sadly; it was funny at the time!)...and that's barely the tip of the alt iceberg...I've got tons on WoW too, if it's what you enjoy go for it ;p Play alts but don't abandon the other chars, try to pick one to play between alt nic-fits so it levels over time with Rest exp :p

I'll go in suit with Phoenix on this one...

Hi, I'm Khazrael... and I'm an altaholic /sob

I suffer from this as well, and honestly I think multi-boxing has only made it worse. While at the moment I only have two teams and have been pretty good sticking to my shams, I'm absolutely itching to try so many group combinations, I can hardly wait. I'm hoping to get to 70 so I can get some major cash flow going from dailies before I get to that point though. We'll see what happens.

What to try next, 5 druids? 4 locks and a priest? no, a lock and 4 priests! Oh, what about a melee group of feral druids and warriors... ohh no I know how abo.....<infinity>

OzPhoenix

Fortunately I've got my 70 Hunter feeding my Shammies his dailies gold. Main Shaman has 2300g on him at level 23. But I know exacttttytlllllyyyy what you mean.

My team combos I wanna try:

Blood Elf Team: Paladin, Priest, Mage, Mage, Warlock. I gave in to temptation and made them already.
5 Hunters.......ssooooooooooo wanna try this.
5 Druids (for stealth runs).
5 Warlocks.
5 Paladins....yes, 5 Paladins...lol.

There's also the Twink-itus, where you level up to x9 level and twink the crap out of them.

Also, did you know you're only allowed to create a max of 50 characters per account.

Meaning if you created 50 character in 5 servers, you can't make 51st character on a 6th server.

And there's the Level-itus.

Account 1: 70 Pally, 70 Rogue, 70 Shaman, 60 Mage, 39 Rogue, 39 Hunter, 29 Warlock, 20 Hunter, 14 Hunter
Account 2: 70 Priest, 70 Shaman, 60 Mage, 36 Paladin, 32 Druid, 29 Mage, 29 Warlock, 16 Hunter, 14 Rogue, 10 Warlock
Account 3: 70 Paladin, 39 Shaman, 20 Mage, 18 Druid, 17 Warlock
Account 4: 70 Warrior, 70 Shaman

I likewise have a tragic number of characters in the 60-69 range.

I certainly hope 250 characters is enough for me, otherwise I need to get myself a second job and quit playing wow. :)

I had easily that many in D2:LOD. Of course, many of them were mules, but hey, I never dropped anything unique and find it hard to shard old epics in WoW for much the same hoarders reasons.

I hear ya, I get sentimental with stuff. I don't like to get rid of my old item sets (like the tier 0 and shit from pre-bc). But space always ends up becoming such an issue.

Alt-itis is what caused me to get into multiboxing in the first place. I found out that I could use my 70 shadowpriest to help my 60 warrior level and quest! After that, 5boxing came... crazy stuff. It does worry me though, because I have lost all interest in end-game raiding (mostly the harsh schedule that it presents). The truly scary part is that I'm now 70 on my shaman team, I have no interest in leveling ANOTHER group of 5, and I wonder if PVP is enough to keep me interested in the game. If not, then I may just drop the game in a month... we shall see.

Leveling is 90% of the fun for me.

I'm an altaholic too! :(

The worst part now is the various states of my macros, as I get more experienced in writing them my older ones need updating, lol.

On the upside though, playing alts has given me a broader insight to other classes. My first toon was a lock and my second a priest. I love raiding on my holy priest. I enjoy my lock but playing priest can get intense!

I honestly don't think I'll ever get tired of leveling new characters - I've been playing since Beta, and it hasn't happened yet, don't see why it will any time soon.

I'm enjoying questing again, running two boxes has renewed my interest in the game. I'm just burned out on the post-70 game, in every way.

I've never leveled a Horde character past level 7, so I have half of the game, quest wise, to play. I'm now looking into doing just that.

I'm fine with 2 boxes, for now. My fuzzy goal for the future is to get one toon of each class to 60. It was get two of each to 60 last month. LOL. It's cool.

I'm finding that by quitting the rat race that is the post-70 game (gotta get gear gotta get rep gotta get honor), my addiction is rapidly fading. I still enjoy the game, but that nagging sense that I'm missing out if I don't play is gone, and I'm fine with that. I don't care if it takes a year to get a toon to 60, I'm in no rush. I don't care that my guild bank is at 1200, and has been for 2 months. I'm taking more time to slow down, and explore again, and relax. If I log on and fish for an hour, it's fine. :)

I have a lot of alts now, and I love it. :) Choices are GOOD things.

My distaste towards leveling in general (after the first time) has prevented me from developping altitus.

Sounds horrible, if you ask me. xP

I'm not going to jump on that until it has seen some action first. I was playing SWG from day 1, and it turned out to be a flub. I would like to see if the game does well in reviews and such before I jump in.

Theres also the wife factor. End game for any MMO requires long stretches of time for raiding and such where you cannot really just "jump off" if something comes up. My wife hates that. She just doesn't understand video games, and can't understand how I could play for 2 hours and think that it wasn't enough. C'est la vie no? Multiboxing has given me a good way to only play in small increments because other people aren't being held up if I ninja log.

So, I'm going to play my shammies at lvl 70 for awhile and see how much I enjoy PVP. If its not the cats pajamas, then I might move to console gaming (for which I don't have a single nextgen console because I've been too addicted to WoW for 2 years).

Oh god, don't get me started on D2. Had two accounts filled with characters, multiple sorcies just for different builds, multiple necros, a sorc with loads of MF, couple druids, couple assins. Had loads of unique's. The accounts had different cd keys so I would use d2loader to run two instances so I could safely trade items to mule accounts. In 3 hours I could powerlevel a character to 80. I remember doing nonstop baal runs.

Then a few months later I nostagically logged into my account to find all my characters had expired. :cursing:

Yeah, somewhere around my 100th game of AV at lvl 70 I start to get altitis -- or 2nd game of WSG.

I think I might start a hunter or warlock group as a side project very soon.

its funny that d2 came up . Thats where I first started to mutibox. well at least have many accounts logged in to grp with . I lvled so many killing the cow king and the other cows. but yes You know when you have it bad that you max out accounts for max chars (50) then have to get new accounts. My problem is char limit on accounts , used to be you could have as many as you wanted accross servers now its 50. Only 10 per server sucks also. with 7 accounts I have over 250 toons. most are 35-70, rest are x9 for twiks. I guess I need a new support group. With pvp servers normal ones, rp , its just toooo much to do ;(

So far, I'm not having any alt-itis when Multiboxing, but I'm sure it will creep up as I move onward, and level-ups will get slower and slower.

I have levelitis. I can't seem to enjoy leveling like i should be. My shaman are the first alt I have leveled past 25. Quest helper has made my leveling a bit easier. I don't enjoy playing alone, but I want the people I play with to have the same goal if working together. To bad i can't talk to my other chars.

Thats nuts, but I suppose really if I didn't get in the habit of deleting old characters I might have as well. Of course, other times i've come back a few months later and though "Hmmm, I'd like to play x class" then realize i had a level 25 of it i didn't like and deleted it.

I forgot to mention I also have Respecitus. I respec my characters WAY too much. One of my mid 60's rogue has been all 3 specs within one month. Already respecd my 4 hunters 3 times.

Eteocles
05-08-2008, 02:39 PM
I respec'd my rogue alot post-bc trying to find a worthwhile spec since I lvl'd both of them to 60 as subtlety/daggers, but daggers didn't cut it in outland and they made imp sap a normal part of sap too(I rolled the rogues originally JUST to go into enemy towns and piss people off by imp-sappin them...sooooo funny to see them spaz and go apeshit every time they're sapped, aoeing and running around lol); I went around the other trees tweaking constantly to find what worked, mutilate specs, maces, daggers, fists...eventually settled on combat/swords for lvling, then combat/maces for raiding(and it worked quite well; in blues I outdps'd epic'd people and was just shy of the other epic'd rogues of varying specs despite maces being primarily a pvp spec; Trash stun in kara = valuable ass-saver + lets me solo some of the lone caster adds); I've gone back to Subtlety/daggers since then though once they made Shadowstep work in combat and out of stealth and got some daggers worth shit, quite powerful in an experienced rogue's hands ;p

I respec'd my boomkin a few times once I started raiding and a couple times as we progressed based on my survival(or lack thereof) and raid needs sans imp FF, and my Paladin/Hunter have both been through all 3 trees at one point(Pala started holy, then went ret, then went prot - Hunter started heavy BM, then heavy surv, then heavy marksman once they nerfed hunter agi = ap conversions, and now sitting on 21/40/0 lol)...I guess I have mild, rare respecitis rather than chronic versions :p

It doesn't surprise me that a lot of us here are old D2-boxers, I suspect that many people first started "multiboxing" with that game.

I know myself I ended up with 4 CD-keys eventually. Don't ask me why...lol.

I used to, with a mate of mine, trick 8 mules at a time into the higher difficulty levels to collect their Hellforge runes. We'd run 8 groups of 7, each group taking about 20 minutes to reach Hell as Level1 mules. The only hard bit was finding someone to drop Baal on quest for us to move into the next difficulty level.

Altitus? Um... very guilty.

I just got my.... uh... (I'm among friends, right?)... 13th level 70 last week.

And it gets worse - my latest crew is up to 52 and I couldn't bring myself to play any of my 70s last night b/c the level 52 crew was sitting on 150% rested exp. It would just be a huge waste not to use it, right?

Gearing them all up? THAT's a project.

Course, that's nothing compared to leveling them all up from level 70 to level 80 when WotLK comes out! ;(

Hi, I am Djarid and I am an Altaholic.

I managed to get 1 char to 60 pre-TBC and a different char to 70 post-TBC
I have 5 servers filled with alts, the highest being level 32

Since I started multi-boxing in September I have had
3x UD warlocks (lv 16)
2x Human warlocks + 1x human Priest (level 12)
2x Tauren Shaman (grew to 3x) (26, these are the highest)
3x Draenei Shaman, 1x Draenei Paladin, 1x Nelf Druid (23) 4x Belf Warlocks, 1x Belf Priest (16)

Maz
05-09-2008, 07:59 AM
I think I'm heading the same way Djarid went.

3 60s pre TBC (priest then rogue then priest)

This grew to 60 priest, 60 priest, 63 shaman, 70 rogue, 70 warlock once TBC came out.

I've abandoned countless alts on the way - most of them get deleted so can't list them.

I'm now at level 16 with my first team and although I'm keen to get into the instances, I also have a hankering to start other teams. I think part of me would rather start a new team than sort out my setup with my current team. I really must sort out my macros/keybinds/UI.

Awbee

70 Holy Paladin

70 Elemental Shammy

70 Marks Hunter

70 Prot Warrior

64 Combat Rogue

64 Holy/Disc Priest

59 Frost Mage

45 Destr Lock

40 BE Paladin

11 Bank Tank

I also have the luxory of paying for 6 accounts because my entire family plays. So multiboxing was the next step for me once the kids went to bed and were off their accounts. I used to dual and triple box via 3 laptops in the old MC/BWL/AQxx Days.

Made a small 1 pali/4shammy team to experiment with on another server using keyclone and the info I have been reading here for the past few months. But after a little bit, I think I am going to go the 5 shammy route for the sheer firepower.

Altaholic? I would think multiple personality disorder...

60 Nelf hunter & 60 Nelf Druid - org combo
60 mostly dead priest
64 human retro pally & dwarven dis priest - PvP group - favorite quote "Welcome to my Consecration Camp!"
55 Cow Shammy and his fighting cow brother
70/70 mage/mage farming combo
66/66/66/66/66 Shamman 5 man team
55/55/55 mage triplets to work up to the farming combo
21/21/21/21/19 warlock priest xZin homage
6/6/6/6/6 horde shammy backstreet boy band - only mentioned due to bad taste - otherwise level 20 and under not listed here.
(as well as toons that I am ashamed to mention)
49 Nerfing Nelf Rogue that gets treated like a plastic kick ball at recess.
35/37 warrior banks - these guys have crap gear but 5,000+ gold. EACH... You know its bad when your bank toons are over level 10

I need help and more friends... I can make more - I still have the room....

70 Human Paladin
70 NE Rogue (gawd I hate NEs)
70 Gnome Mage
70 Human Warrior
70 Draenei Paladin
70 Troll Hunter
70 Undead Warlock
70 Blood Elf Paladin
70 Orc Warrior
70 NE Druid

(then I actually started multiboxing :P)

5x60 Draenei Shaman
4x42 Orc Warrior 1x42 Orc Shaman

Not even going to bother listing any alts below level 60 or the countless one's I've deleted.

Funnily enough I have never gotten a priest past level 14...and I'm dying to try out MC sometime :/ O well I'm thinking of one day making a 2xPaladin 3x Holy nuke priest as sort of a holy crusade group just for shits & giggles and a little bit of RP fun. Mostly probably farm Undead/Demon dungeons with em if I ever do.

Pre-BC highest priest, Tdog: lv6. Post-BC: 36.(Draenei, of course; the Draenei priest racial is great at low lvls, like a mini mana pot for the whole group lol); I rolled it, of course, BECAUSE of MC(I'd been watching alot of "Fun With Mind Control =D" movies), and fittingly enough, I named it "Hypnotoad" and it wore that spinning Hypnotizing black/white helmet from Gnomeregan :P

MC is indeed fun when it works, but the further the target is from you the more likely it is to break. I also was an Eng on my 58 prot pala...Gnomish Mind Control cap ftw >D No less than 6 times have I MC'd horde outside Gadgetzan and made them attack their own FP...the lolz that ensued were EPIC. Then after they die, I bubble/bof and run away rofl

I'm the totaly opposite of what you guys have in comman. I played my druid for like 2 years, maximized it to the ends and didnt have a single alt.. When he in the start of season 2 allreay got full season 2 gearing i figured i wanted a shammy so i had something to stribe for.. lvled him.. got him maximized kinda fast and then after having him on lvl 70 for less then 3 mounts i learned about boxing and make 3 more :P Soon 70 and they will get pvp gearing as soon as s4 is out. And i will then have the honor for most of the gear and arena points for atleast 1 part. All mates etc ready :P
