I would like to get some advice from current PVE 5 boxers.

Lately I've been getting very frustrated with the quality of PUGs heroics and have been thinking about adding 2 more accounts and starting a new 5 box team with a focus on pve. I don't have any of the characters for the "ideal" pve 5box, which from what I've read and what seems logical, is pally tank, mage, mage, mage/warlock, holy priest. With this combo using 1 or 2 PCs and keyclone and assuming I use the standard macros and control setup, do you guys think I can:

1. Complete appropriate level range instances (eventually heroics) without taking much longer to clear them than a PUG.
2. Make enough gold to decently equip the team by disenchanting everything from the instances.
3. Swap my raid characters in at times when they need badges (Prot war, enhance shaman).
4. PVP a limited amount to fill gear holes, and not completely suck at it.
5. Not go insane trying to make it all work.

If those aren't goals that an at best "average" boxer can achieve, I will probably roll up a pvp oriented 4 or 5 box using locks and a priest, or shamans, and just do pvp for fun and dailies to try and make some cash to support them. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Pally
+ 3x Mage + Priest = Very Possible. Massive CC in instances when you
need it (although with a Pally you probably won't need it.

I have a question related to the pally.. Everyone mentions that with them
you don't really need CC.. is this with respect to aggro hold or dmg
mitigation? I find that when I don't seduce with my locks the incoming
damaga puts a big strain on my healer. Below is the link to armory..
I'm slowly gathering better gear.. with priest fort and imp my health
is around 13k but I still find that if I don't CC he can go down pretty
quick with 3 mobs hitting him.

A Pally tank can hold several mobs stick to him. The Mages' CC helps with a lot though and makes runs go VERY easy. With my 3 Mages, even groups of 5 mobs gets shrunk down to 2 and I can take my time and easily clear the group.

With Mages though, they are VERY squishy.

If I had to do it again, I would probably go with a Paly Tank, 2x Mages, 1x Druid and 1x Shaman, or Paly Tank, 2x Mages and 2x Shamans. Or Paly Tank, 2x Mages, 1x Priest, 1x Druid.... BLAH... I would swap out one of my Mage for something else just for additional buffs (another Shaman for stacking totems, or Druid for their buff, or a Priest for their buff)..

Clothies are SQUISHY! Glass cannons is another way to put it. Will you be able to not go OOM on long fights? (this is where Shaman win).

Priest has nice AoE heals, so that will help.

Also, how will you deal with fear bombs? (PvP and instances)As far as going oom on long fights, I doubt it will be an issue, I really can't think of any of the easier heroics where there is really a long fight, and with mages evoc and summoned items I would think I would be ok.

I here the Priest is a must, and I have my shamans resto set if I decide chain heals are the win instead.

As far as fear, the mages and possible lock, as well as the priest could be undead, although I like the idea of a all BE group for the "ooh look, shiny" factor. PVP trinkets can help as well, I would think.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khadgar&n=BenazIt is in reference to paladin holding aoe aggro the easiest of the 3 tank types via consecration.

Basically...

-Paladins are the easiest to hold aoe aggro but mitigate dmg the least well

-Druids are in the middle with the ability to hold aoe aggro fairly easy enough and mitigate damage decently well

-Warriors are alot more micromanagement with aoe aggro but can mitigate damage probably the best if done right.

Now this is said with multiboxing in mind and also by no means does it mean that paladins can't take the hits nor that warriors can't hold aoe aggro.

got ya.. yeah never had issues with holding aggro, thought there was
something basic I was missing that wouldn't require CC for damaga
mitigation.

A warrior with a mouse-over devastate macro, no more tab-devastate, that with thunderclap and cleave, and use Shield Slam on the focused target. Just as easy to aoe tank with a warrior as with a Paladin. Just practice, practice. Personally I find tanking with a Paladin extremely boring.

I am interested in this devastate macro of which you speak

#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover,equipped:Shields,harm,nodead][] Devastate

it will only work with a shield equipped :)

#showtooltip Righteous Defense
/cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][target=targettarget,help,nodead]Righteous Defense

That's for Pally's to keep agro with righteous defense

#showtooltip Taunt
/cast [nostance:2] Defensive Stance; [stance:2, target=mouseover, exists, harm][stance:2, nodead, harm][stance:2, target=targettarget, nodead, harm][stance:2] Taunt

That's for warriors to taunt or mocking blow

#showtooltip Devastate
/cast [target=mouseover,harm,nodead][target=targettarget, nodead, harm] Devastate

That should work for devastate.

Personally I find tanking with a Paladin extremely boring.Keep in mind my previous post was talking about difficulty as far as micromanagement in multi-boxing specifically. Solo with a little practice a warrior can hang on to multiple mobs np. In multi-boxing you can still do all the same maneuvers as solo but the difference is you are worrying about 4 other characters at the same time giving you less time to manage your tank which is what micromanagement is referring too. Again however this does not mean that warriors can not be effective tank while multiboxing, my post above was referring to paladin tanking being, for lack of a better term, "noob friendly" when it comes to multi-boxing.

For example with with my 5x shaman team I occasionally throw my paladin into the mix as a tank. I have Avenger's Shield bound to my mouse 3 button and I have Holy Shield on button 2 along with Lightning Bolt and Consecration on button 3 along with Chain Lightning. It's so easy to tank in this manner that I don't even have to pay attention really at all to my paladin. I occiasionally hit my Judge/SoR button and that's about all the management my paladin tank even needs. That is why I was saying paladin tanking while multiboxing is probably the easiest or "noob friendly". Certainly as you said however with some practice I'm sure you can effectively aoe tank with a warrior while multi-boxing as well.
