Hey everyone
So I have noticed over the couple of months that I have been doing this, that I seem to be in the minority as far as using a wider array of classes. It seems that the most popular are the 5xShammy or the 1X<Fill In the Blank, usually Pally> 4XShammy. So I am wondering if I was just a noob to do it the way I have done it? or are there more out there like me? My Combo is Pally, Priest, Mage, and Lock.
Thanks

It's definitely not "noob" but you will find it harder in PvP managing all those cast times and cooldowns.
Minimizing the classes/specs means minimizing the amount of micromanagement needed for effectively tracking different abilities' cast times and cooldowns.

It's not just the difficulty of micromanaging multiple classes, but the effectiveness towards an individual's goals. Some people pve, some try to do heroic and raiding pve, some mostly BG pvp, and others really enjoy arena. Shaman can work well in all of these. While other compositions may potentially be more effective in any one or two of these categories, a shaman group will give the most variety of end game capabilities. So it really comes down to what your goals are.
Personally, my favorite group to run so far is priest with 4 lock. I expect I can do all normal 5 mans and own in BG's. I don't know if I will do very well in heroics with void tanks and I doubt I will be effective in arena.
Your group has more variety and could probably perform better than shaman groups in many pve encounters. However, don't expect your balanced group to excel in arena.
I started with a group of five shaman as I was new to multiboxing and wanted an easy life. Shaman can fulfill a variety of roles and it had been demonstrated that they were viable in PVE and PVP. I was sorely tempted to go the Paladin + Four Shammy route but chose the easy life.
That lasted until level 7 when I deleted the Shammy from the head of my snake and replaced her with a Paladin. That's worked out very well.
I'm already thinking about respeccing the last shammy to resto at some point.
Once the group's at a respectable level, I'll be throwing a druid onto the healer account and three mages onto the DPS accounts.
I also have plans for a priest on the healer account and a duo of boomkin druids.
I don't have any desire to run a (for example) Paladin/Mage/Lock/Hunter/Priest group but you never know. I do like to write macros and design user interfaces but I like to spend at least some time actually playing the game :)

Definately not alone :)
I really dislike PvP and rather focus my time on raiding or instances (I like getting new shiny things all the time :D) so when I decided to multibox I looked at what classes I had on my account already, worked out what I'd want for a good instance group (needed tank, heals, cc, dps...this was before I watched the videos of pure shaman pewpew) and then narrowed my choices down. Since I already had a holy paladin, warlock and rogue on one account I decided to build a group that could fit them in in the future if I wanted to so that led to my choice of prot pal, holy priest, 2 mages, shaman. I put one of the mages on my main account, so now if I want to I can swap out the mage for a t4 holy paladin (and respec priest to shadow) or the warlock...rogue gets to come along after the instances are clear to open up any locked chests :)
That being said, I'm now going to level up 3 more shaman on the mage and priest accounts to allow me to run my current group or 4 shaman + paladin as needed and that's one of the best things about multiboxing I think....if we work out we need a different class we can get them up to speed a lot more quickly through boosting without having to rely on people doing it for us so it's a lot easier to try out new combinations and find what works best for the individual and their goals than someone that has to make a choice initially and then, if they find out they don't like the class, have to put up with playing what they dont like/isn't effective or spend a few months getting a new character leveled and geared to their current level.
I started a little group this weekend planning to do instance runs (pvp really isn't my thing). I have:
Pala (tank), Shaman (healer), Mage, Lock, Priest.
Hoping to try them out in DM before my trials run out and I have to shelve them for a few months.
Yup, you are definitely not alone. I'm running up a Prot Pally, 2x Fire Mage, Elemental Shaman and Holy/Disc Priest for PVE purposes b/c I'm more of a PVE kinda girl anyway. I was originally going to start fresh on a new PVP server but realized I wanted a team to help gear my main (level 70 Frost Mage), who will most likely replace one of the mages or the shaman (unless I need 3x sheep). So, I'm back on my PVE server.
I have a Druid at 26 and a Warrior at 42 just in case I need two healers or two tanks. I'm gonna try and PL them too. I have a lot on my plate but it keeps me excited and interested. Eventually I'll do the 5x Shaman team but that's not for a long time. As long as you enjoy it, forge ahead. Good luck with them!
