What to expect at level 70 5x shaman

This was my biggest question as I was leveling up, so I figured I would give my experience for any of the shaman groups leveling.

My shamans have been 70 for just under one week now and I have just over 2 days /played at level 70.

When I hit 70 and got all of my rep gear/enchants I was around 500 + damage. At that point I could do ramparts and slave pens full clear, one boss in SV and one boss in sethekk halls. I tried a few others but I just didn’t have the DPS/skill for it. It wasn’t easy, quite a few wipes learning everything but still a lot of fun.

While farming heroics I got the rep/mats for my shoulder/head/leg enchants. In that time I got the SkyCall totem.

At the end of the week I have 630 + damage and 16.40% crit(without talents) on my guys. With that I can now do full clears of Steamvaults, Botanica, and Mana Tombs also. So far I have got 65 badges. Now I’m trying to do 20 badges a day to gear up fast. I was able to do it yesterday but I don’t know how long I will keep that up.

Also from just running instances and selling everything on the AH I was able to get the 5k gold for the epic mount on my main guy.

so you did full Slave Pens and Sethekk Heroic clears right at 70? I'm impressed. I will (hopefully) hit 70 this weekend with my shammies, and plan to PVP my ass off... and maybe get some questing in. At some point I will start doing heroics to badge farm.

I only did the first boss in sethekk. The pulls that have the guys that fear and then turn into a ghost when they die, are hard enough on regular. I don't even want to try them on heroic. ;(

Which would you think is the fastest badge farming instance so far? (badges/hr)

Do you have them all spec'd elemental or 1 resto? I am too lazy to go armory searching ;)

For bosses, do you usually use 2 earth elementals + 3 fire elementals? Or can you get away with using fewer? I imagine it differs on each boss, but as a general guideline.

did you try working your tremor totems into the rotation?
Yea what I ended up doing was dropping the tremor totems like that so the fear would last under a second if it did anything at all. The problem was then I couldn’t drop my stone claw totem for CC and the guys hit pretty hard when they got to me. If I killed them first the ghost would two shot my guys.

I ended up dropping the tremor totems, bursting down one of the guys (prophets I think?) on the pull so the ghost would fade before it got to me. Then killing the melee mob, then the caster and the other prophet last. I think you could do it on heroic by doing ½ tremor and ½ stone claw, but I want more gear before I try.

Thank you for this writeup of your experiences from hitting 70 and on. It was a very insightful read and gave me that little extra ooomph to get my team going at a faster leveling clip than its already at. Its so hard to level when everyone gawks at you anywhere you go.

Ramparts, Slave Pens, and Steamvualts are the best for me because I don’t have to wait for Totem cool downs. Ramparts is the fastest for me, but maybe that’s just because I know it really well.

I have all of my guys elemental.

I should switch it up but I’m very lazy when it comes to my elemental totems. I either drop all earth for hard hitting bosses or all fire for soft hitting ones.

Uhh the biggest secret I wanna know is how you got 2 days played at 70.... Mine are gonna hit 63 tonight and have over 11 days played.

Eteo is right. As for /played, it depends on a lot of factors (the amount of boosting, whether or not you did professions, did you grind instances, etc). I am at 68.5, and I just look at my /played... 6 days 20 hours. I boosted with a friends mage from 10-47 in instances though. So... its all relative.

Rabbitx was a leveling fiend. We've chatted a few times since he's the other 4+ multiboxer on our Server, but his crew shot up amazingly fast.


Rabbit, I think you're doing awesome given the gear level and experience you've had. I am totally blown away at how well you've done in Heroics so far. I would...

1.) Make sure you're playing arena each week, even if it's just losing most of the 10 games you play. Arena gear can be a nice upgrade for PvE.
2.) Grab your 5x Totems of the Void-- (I don't remember if you had those yet when we last talked)
3.) Group with my guys and do some BGs!! It's time for some 9x Shammy action, my friend!!
4.) Keep on doing whatever Heroics you think you can easily get for badges.

Well, I finally (just this week) moved my Paladin off to the 5th account. I am going to start Heroics with the Pally+4xShammy setup. She's got a smattering of tank gear and I've had a little experience tanking with her in Kara, so we'll see how it goes.

I think she's like 510 defense, 101% avoidance with HS up, 12.5k health or so. Should be enough to get started...


Maybe someday Rabbit and I will 2xMultibox Kara with a Pally+9xShaman setup... Something to shoot for!

This might be a little too late but what specific gear were you wearing when you dinged 70. In other words what is worth spending your time grinding while leveling. I was thinking about grinding lower city rep so i could get maces as soon as I ding 70.

I do ramparts and sp every day that's 6 badges... sometimes I do 1st boss in Blood Furnace and 2nd Boss in steamvault as well for 8 badges.... Mana Tombs + Sethekk Halls 1st bosses for another 2... That's 10 a day so far. I'm positive if I actually try and work on my strats that I could clear all SV, all Mana Tombs, and All of Botanica (haven't even tried this one yet another 5 badges). Mechanar is also another quick 2-3 badges depending on what you do.

It all depends on your experience in the instance along with your gear I started doing these instances soon as I dinged 70. I can now do Ramparts in about 45min and Slave Pens in 30-45min as well, so for lets say 90mins spent I get 6 badges.
