Hi All,

Well, for the past two weeks I've been dual boxing a rogue and druid, and I've been having a blast. It's making WoW feel new again. But, I really want to try out 5 boxing and I just can't make up my mind on what classes I want. I've been reading through old forum posts like this for hours but haven't seen anything addressing this specific combo. I know that I want a Paly for my tank and a Priest for my healer, along with a combo of Locks and Mages. It seems like buffwise you would be better off going with 2 locks and 1 mage, since you would get a good buff from one imp and you could still have an offtank with one voidwalker. But I think you might get more pew pew with 2 mages and 1 lock.

I'm just coming back from a year long hiatus. I've leveled a priest and a rogue to 60 (before BC obviously) and I was in a hard core raiding guild with my rogue. I've also level a lock and a mage up to around 30, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with those classes. I will be using this team primarily for 5 manning instances, and maybe pvping down the road, but probably not. So this is all for PvE. I'd just hate to get all the way to 70 and realize that I should have gone with a different combo. Seeing as I have a wife, 2 kids, and a full time job, I really don't have the time to test out both combos all the way up to 70, it'll probably take me close to a year to get one group up there as it is.

Has anyone tried both of these combos? And if so, what did you prefer? If this has been discussed before feel free to flame me, just be sure to include a link to that thread :)

I'd say it would be a wash really and come down to where you see yourself grinding/which instance you want to run most.

With correct gearing mages and warlocks should do near enough to the same dps, the advantage here swings slightly to locks being able to manatap and reduce downtime with the priest using prayer of mending, and you also get 2 soulstones to cover both your ressers if needed.

With 2 mages you will have 2 x polymorph for cc (which I prefer to a succy) but only useable on living humanoids while locks give you the advantages of banish/enslave for demons. I'd suggest also that you'd be using enslave a lot more to grab an offtank than you would be using the voidy so I'd suggest not factoring voidwalker into things, but felhunter can make some things a lot easier so it might be a consideration.

For me, I went with 2 mages just because I already had a 70 lock on one of the mage accounts and I would mainly be running instances where poly was useful but for you it may be different.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with going either route really, but if I were making the choice knowing what I know now I'd probably take mage/warlock/shaman combo...dps will still remain reasonably constant but you add a secondary healer (tagging chain heal to the same key as prayer of healing is great) to the group along with a self-resser for a little more survivability.

Hmmm.... I didn't really consider throwing a Shaman in there, mainly because I've never played one and am completely unfamiliar with them. I also thought that it might make it a little *too* difficult with 5 different classes, but maybe not. Thanks for the suggestions!

well, swap a mage in for the warlock and it's only 4 classes...which I can say from experience work well together :)
