View Full Version : Need a gauge in lowbie xp/hour

I'm powerleveling 3 alts at the same time with my Paladin.
From level 10-15, I was getting about 10k/hour
From level 15-20, getting about 17k/hour
Wondering what kind of xp/hour anyone else that is also powerleveling, or even just plain leveling is getting.
Just trying to get a gauge to see if I'm going slow, average or fast.

"A watched pot never boils"; a watched lowbie lvls slowly ;) The less you think about it or realize it, the quicker it will be/seem to be; worked fine for me, I've barely realized I've been plvling it and my shaman's already just shy of 37 and had 1day 10hours /played when I checked last night.
Also I don't bother counting xp/hr cuz alot of things can throw that calculation off from quest rewards to discovery experience to rested exp/party makeup/etc. I don't think anyone breaks 40k an hour at best though at those lvls, and that's an SM-area number, yer not quite there yet so I'd assume it's at least average

If you're making levels every 20 minutes or so, that's faster than you can do questing. Raw xp/hour doesn't mean that much.

Completely understand... I'm just debating on if I should continue powerleveling using my 70 Paladin (instance grinding), or if I should just take them out and start questing instead.

If you can stand it, push up to at least 30-35 with the pala first; I'd kill to have a prot pala to abuse for plvling :p Then come out of yer hermit shell and quest some, the rewards from 40 on up aren't too shabby and plus you'll need to do something noone seems to mention on these forums: Level your Defense and Weapon skills :p Weapon may not be too important but Defense needs to be kept up to date so you're not getting Crushing Blows all the times you ARE hit, making it a little less of a pain in the ass to play...and questing "normally" helps with that.

- I PL with pally til I get bored then go do quests til they bore me and keep switching back and forth lvling up. Quest til you run out of easy short quests and then run instances to next lvl of quests. This prob isnt the end all fastest way of lvling, but I get the added bonus of keeping my sanity (least what's left of it).

I watched my sis-in-law get a 10K crit hit in heroic because of this. Insta-death. I lol'd.
Ever few levels, I plop down healing totems, aggro 3 different mobs on 3 of my toons, and have them all auto-attack until the healing totems go out (2 minutes). I use frostshock to rotate the aggro. This levels all their weapons and defense on all of them. It's such a pain. You never get hit when you instagib mobs. :)

Wep Skills- Go to Blasted Lands. Take one of the Servants of w/e of to the side where you don't have to worry about patroling mobs. Have a paladin judge JoL on the servant and auto attack to refresh judgement. Then have all your toons simply whack away at the mob and go afk. JoL will keep them healed and since you're in combat, even though you will go auto AFK it will not auto log you since you're in combat. 2 piece T4 works best for JoL but you should be fine w/o it as well.
Also should mention that 349-->350 takes FOREVER!!!! From 340-349 you will be gaining a wep skill once every 15 mins or so dual wielding the same wep type. 349-->350 will take usually 4 hours. So no it didn't bug out or anything its just ridiculously long...
Defense- You can use the same method as above for defense OR if you have a toon with a non damaging offensive abitlity such as Demo shout, Arcane torrent, Non- damagin curses, Stoneclaw totem, etc... you can gather up a bunch of lvl 1 critters, make them aggro you and then just go AFK for awhile while your Defense gets boosted. On alliance side a popular place to use this method is the IF side of the tram as there is a ton of rats you can do this with. Not sure about horde side...

You can literally just walk away from your computer all day with this method. SOO much less of a pain in the ass. I did this on my warrior a couple of times, went to work for 8 hours came back and my warrior was at full hp and just barely got 350 wep skill.
Edit: Just noticed that you have 5 shammies. If you can get ahold of a paladin or have one of your own this is the easiest method I know of. You are on Alliance side however which I would recommend going to IF tram dropping some stoneclaw totems to aggro the rats then just let them beat on you forever, heal yourself up w/e you need too.

There was a blue post about that yesterday somewhere. Basically stating that you shouldn't expect to see this last much longer and might want to not do it at all. ;)

Did some testing on this, my party consisted of 1 70 Mage, 1 10 Mage, 1 10 Pally and 1 16 Priest. Running deadmines, 1 run takes 20 minutes, including time to get back to the entrance.
mage and pally: 4943 xp /run -> ~12000 xp/ hour (accounting for unforeseen problems)
priest: 8989 xp /run -> ~25000 xp / hour
Kind of weird that the higher level priest gets more xp/hr :s.

The closer the toon is to the level of the mob, the better the XP, which is why the Priest is getting more XP at level 16, then your level 10 toons.
I went to Deadmines 10-15, and at 15 went to Stockades. Now I'm thinking, I should've kept on at Deadmines...
I only pointed this out because Blizzard has gone to such extents to prevent powerleveling of any kind. I figured they would eventually get around to plugging this hole. It's a shame I won't get to use it; to those who have been able to, more power to you ^_^ I'm sure we'll find another way to level effeciently. If I had more energy and could pull myself away from W&W (work & wow), I would modify some of the existing leveling guides, sans gathering quests, plus good mob grind filling locations to make for a multiboxer's shortest leveling path.
[Assuming you're using QuestHelper] I've found one way that helps is to just blindly accept all quests on main + clones, set QuestHelper to solo mode (/qh solo), then when QH directs you to gathering quest, right click and ignore that one. Then you can track only non-collection quests. Maybe at the end of a zone's questlines you'll want to clear out your quest log of existing collection quests. I use this method because I can't stand seeing yellow "!" over NPCs heads ><;; I don't want to trouble myself with double-checking them to see if new [non-collection] quests are available, so this seems to work for me. Maybe a little OCD... Either way QuestHelper is one of the most elegantly written and useful WoW plugins to date; I highly suggest you check it out if you aren't using it already.
What was the subject again?!
