View Full Version : How do you counteract Hex?

I'm currently level 56 on my pally/4 shaman team and have done BRD quite a bit. Other than the starting Draenei zone, I have completely leveled through instances and their related quest and any this item starts a quest things I have come across. In BRD, I have done all the quest except the back room (I've tried it a couple times, even got both flames in my bag once but lost them do to time) and the leveling is getting slow so I decided to venture into LBRS which was going well till I hit the smolderthorn shadow priests that cast hex (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=9240#abilities). Unless I screwed up (very possible), my grounding totems don't eat it and my tremor totems don't remove it. Any suggestions?
As an alternative would you advise DM/Scholo/Strath?
Thanks.

With lots of ones and zero's!
On a more serious note. I believe hex is only dispellable by priests (and mages or druids. Depends on if its a curse or a magic debuff, I cant remember. :<)
Other then that, most hex abilities are done on people in close range, but not the tank. In one case I can think off, it's in a small aoe radius (shadowhunter boss in Lbrs). I think tanking the mobs that do it away from the other party members should already take care of it quite a bit. :o

I believe it is magic and can be dispelled by priest and pallies.
The priest are right before the boss and they always hex my tank, I wish it was one of the shaman. The shadow hunters in ZF did they same exact thing but it was very infrequent as compared to LBRS which seems non stop. I can bubble out of the first one but seem to get hit with another instantly.
Edit: I'm guessing ultimately I just need to be able to take down the priest quicker which will only come with more levels. Maybe I'll give the other 3 instances mentioned a shot. I never really did the rep grind on my other 70's because I hated pugging but I can already see that running the same instance over and over is going to take a toll on me. In fact, I already made a new 5 man team to play around with, lol.
Try putting blessing of sacrifice on a clone that you think will get aggro. That way, when the clone gets hit it will transfer some of that damage to your tank and break the hex. Try to single target dps them down so that stoneclaw totems can tank adds until hex wears off the tank (in the event your blessing of sacrifice is on a clone that doesn't get hit). I don't know of much else to do besides burn the priests down quickly and keep them stunned/silenced as much as possible.

Great suggestions but Hex doesn't break on damage. It's really an overpowered NPC spell. As for the stoneclaw totem, I guess I could give that a shot along with grounding since some of the groups have 3 casters and one melee. Obviously I have no silence since the spell has no cast time to break with the shammies and I only have the one stun from the pally but that may give me the time I need.
Currently I'm using the G keys on my keyboard along with mod combinations to do stuff but I think I see a reworking of my keys coming very soon for more combinations of totems, etc. I need to do this anyways since I bought an n52te but I've been dreading it.
At one point I got so ticked off with it.. I brought in a 70 lock to
kill that @#$# priest and I still wiped.. everyone got hexed!? ..never
again... grrr

Weird....I cleared LBRS and UBRS, getting the key, and I never remember getting hexed!
I think I had my alts quite a distance away. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Did you do that multiboxing or traditionally? With a good priest or non tank paladin it probably wouldn't be something you would remember since they can dispell it.
I didn't do LBRS at the proper level (i did it at level 67, yeah i know, i'm a cheater)
but id say you are pretty much screwed... not really much ways for a shaman to combat hex.
The way i dealt with it in ZF was that I created a macro dedicated for my priest to dispel my paladin (1 pally, 3 shaman, 1 priest group), since they always seemed to hex my main tank, and then go wild on the rest of the group. Course you can't do that since you dont have a dispeller besides the paladin.
You might try letting your shamans tank for those pulls and kick back with your paladin and play healer. They will probably hex the shamans, which you can dispel with your pally.
'Course it really depends if your macro/binding setup allows you this freedom.
I'd say skip the troll section ;P

You have to do very little of the troll section in LBRS if you drop down into it from the orcs and only do the boss at the bottom. In other words, you skip doing the troll boss (she doesn't drop a gem so not necessary for UBRS key).
I had a priest and paladin in my group so I didn't have too many problems with the hex except when the tank got hexed then the hunter mobs would run away to shoot from distance and can aggro nearby mobs. Not sure how you would handle it in shaman group. Just dps like mad and heal through it. Pally can stun and bubble to buy time to dps it down asap. The boss with the 2 adds was really difficult for me and I could dispel. So good luck.

Well I wen't back in and it went well. I hit the priest with Avenger's Shield and made them my first target so with the slow effect they were usually dead before they even got to me. If there were two and the shield didn't hit both I either got them fast enough or didn't. I think I only got hexed once and my bubble wasn't on cooldown so it went well. I even got the boss right there that has the AOE hex down. The crystalize from the spiders wasn't very fun though. They take longer to kill and there is almost always two with a bunch of babies. Anyhow, cleared everything except the tribute pile and my gear was busted by the time I got to the final boss. Guess I need to work on my engineering to get the repair bot.
Edit: Or die less. :P

LOL. It was my first time and though I try to read up on encounters/bosses before I do them, it didn't go well at all. From what I've read there are waves and from what I could tell, I died on the first one and you have to reset the instance to retry. Hopefully I'll get back in there tonight and give it another shot.
