Anyone been lucky enough to beta test both so that we can get some opinion?

I personally like more relaxed games. I dont want a heart attack while playing a game, bad enough I gotta go work.

It seems we cant multibox in AoC. But what about Warhammer?

Im in both betas.

AOC is much more fun to me personally. Though it cant be boxed.

WAR can easily be boxed... but feels just like a wow clone, with better pvp.

After spending a good 30 - 40 hours on both AoC so far has my vote.

With my very limited understanding, AoC can be efficiently boxed with either a melee + caster(s), or with only multiple casters.

Why can't it be boxed?

I answered it in another thread but Ill go ahead and answer it here as well.

There is no /follow command in AoC, thats makes it rather hard to do. Also, the game is extremely button intensive, meaning your spamming keys continuously. On top of that combos and such are difficult to pull off if you cant see the prompts. As a caster, with out spell weaving Im sure its possible. With spellweaving... It depends on how its done.

This is the thread where I edited the question to say that I had just noticed the other thread. But now the edit is gone. Looks like the forum was reverted to a backup. Thanks for answering again.

Like I said before the revert, it sounds like boxing AoC will be impossible, but maybe with ingenuity and some additions to third-party software, we'll figure out ways to do it.

Because of your posts here I looked at the AoC website, and it's the first MMO that seems interesting to me in quite a while. I get the impression that it's a plain unadorned virtual world where you can wander around and encounter things without magical prompts in the sky telling you where you are and what to do next. Is that true?

This may not fit the title/topic of the thread but what does AoC have on WoW? ie whats better whats worse

Well... lots of things.

First off PVP means something. You can build towns and fight over them. You collect resources and build battle keeps. So pvp isnt a meaningless grind for the latest set of gear... its fighting a legit foe you hate who is trying to take your shit.

Combat...
My brother knows a warlock who has his raid dps set to a nostromo so he can watch Tv while he raids. In AoC... there is an in depth combo system. Think dance dance revolution. You hit a button, and then must perform a series of attacks in certain directions to complete the combo. If you pull the combo off certain buffs or debuffs are activated. In PvP certain things happen... like if you perform a combo and it kills someone it turns into a fatality and you get a super pet.

Active blocking.
If your getting assisted on you can press an active blocking button and your toon will begin blocking 80% of all attacks. (but only from the frontal arc) You cant attack during that, but it buys you time. There are also extensive nockbacks and CC moves that can allow you to throw people off cliffs and such.

Not to mention shields. you can block certain quadrants (right, left, middle) If your shields are in the right area then you have a strong defense there, once you get used to combat animations you can change shields on the fly to increase your defense.

This doesnt even touch spellweaving which we dont have access to yet.

I have played EVERY mainstream NA mmo since Ultima online 1997, I have to say this is the first original game we have had since maybe 2003 with DAOC or 1999 with AC. The UI is not a wow clone, the movement, the combat, the pvp, the pve... its all completely new and exciting. I also believe its going to lead to some good competitive pvp as the classes mix well with CC abilitys, dps, buffs, and healing.

Granted it wont be for everyone, and there will be folks who dont like it. but for me... Im enjoying the hell out of it and cant wait.

I will try AoC for sure. But i have been multi boxing since before /follow was in EQ1. From a business standpoint, I would have to wonder why ANY game maker going into the MMO market would drastically reduce its potential income by not having a /follow command or making it "hard' for people to play more than one account at a time. It is a bad business decision IMO. Even if the producers and big wigs at Funcom hate multi boxing.. they are limiting their success by making it un-multi box friendly.

With that being said.. I know of people in the beta as well and its going to be a damn good "solo box" game for sure. It might be the first MMO I play and enjoy without multi boxing. But my multi boxing addiction will never fade, so AoC will be a secondary game for me more than likely, and ill always be able to get my multi boxing fix taken care of in WoW 8)

I'm not a fan of the whole push the skill then push the direction the skill calls for and mob defense position etc stuff. Sure its cool and unique at first but when you are grinding away at this game like we do all mmo's its just one more thing to make leveling more tedious than it needs to be imo.

( Not to say that some people wont enjoy the hell out of it, im just a lazy bastard that likes to watch movies while i grind :P )

Your missunderstanding. You have three base attacks (5 later on). Left mid and right.

You also have abilities which have no direction. They are independent of each other. Your combos are based on a series of moves. Click the combo, and then perform a series of moves.

You dont have to get complicated, you can use base attacks, and non directional styles... or... you can kill 2x faster by utilizing the system.

I'm in AoC beta as well.. you CAN MB it But its very hardware demanding. One PC per client for sure. i was told /follow WILL be in game.. i have not even tried it. Also /assist is in.. for easy MBing you need a few things. /follow../assist. I have not tried to auto target players.. but you can tab for enemy targets. I think you will be able to play a healer+melee easy enough if you have two PCs. It wont be an easy MB friendly game by any means.. but people will figure it out and do it. I ordered 2 AoC CEs and I'm going to give it a run for sure. Also the first 20 levels can be done solo ( a night time version of the game/instance ) or day time where you can play with your friends and quest. ) its a choice.
