Hello :)
If at all possible I'd really appreciate if the site could find some other security code verification when signing on to the site. What I am referring to is the color box with Letter and numbers you must type in. Its purpose to protect from Web spiders and such.
For those like me with a color deficiency it's almost impossible.. The other day after cycling the images trying to make out one I failed six times and gave up. It's not the first time I struggled so much that it became too frustrating to logon. I used to post a lot, but since the change I rarely visit.I’m unable to logon because I can’t see the letters or numbers in the security codes. For all those I didn’t reply back to in PM’s it was nothing personal. I just can’t normally login. Today I had a co-worker help me. It's just too much ;(
Thanks :D

I can see perfectly fine and it still takes me 2 - 3 times to get in. I just make sure I have my log in saved and it doesnt seem to log me out ever.

I stay logged in, so I don't have to log back in... then again, I'm the only one using my computers.

I think that he's color blind man. Thats why he can't see it easy like you.

If you change the CAPTCHA to something more simple then bots will sign up.
(CAPTCHA = Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart)
I suppose if someone with enough PHP knowledge and knows their way around Burning Board you can do a basic one where you choose alliance or horde like "Which one is the orc?" and click it.

Every time I fail one of those because the letters chosen aren't clear enough for a human to read, it makes me want to toss my keyboard out a window.

Why the hell do we have a CAPTCHA to sign in anyways? It's a security feature to keep out automated sign-ups, not an inaccessibility feature designed to keep out your real users.

I think that he's color blind man. Thats why he can't see it easy like you. That’s a very great idea to invert the colors. Your receive the Mac Gyver title for the day. However it’s a bit of an extreme to logon to a message board, perhaps there’s a happy medium somewhere.
I’m not color blind. I can see colors. However they appear different for me then they do to others. Here’s a site that provides visuals on how things appear differently to those with a Color Deficiency http://webexhibits.org/causesofcolor/2.html#vissamp. That’s a pretty nice presentation on how things look different.
I do struggle in games with it as well. More so EVE than any other. Some of the cloudy backgrounds make the active icons invisible so I have to continue to turn the camera away from the clouds to see what i'm doing.
In wow sometimes I had that trouble. If you watch my Mage video you can see it. While my friend and I, Pally and Mage vs. Hunter and Mage. We killed the hunter but I stood next to the Mage for a while before I saw him, you can see the delay of me just standing there. He was pretty much invisible to me for a while. I enjoyed hunter and lock because the pet would at as a guide on where the NPC is. As often times I didn’t see them. Friends always used to make fun of me and call me an agro magnet because any where we went I’d get agro somehow. Truth be told reason why is I just couldn’t see them.

I checked the site out... see, you are colorblind. I know that it is a common misconception that "colorblind" people see in Black & White. I know that is not how it works. Great site for showing people though. Do you have problems with Traffic signals? I know that my friend had trouble learning the green and red lights.

Great site for showing people though. Do you have problems with Traffic signals? I know that my friend had trouble learning the green and red lights. Learning colors as a color blind person is just learning the alphabet in a different language. They can point to most colors and identify it. It appears different then you but was learned in the same way. The colors I struggle with most colors, my worst are green, gold, silver and red. Unless there’s an extreme difference in color shades I normally can’t pick them up. Orange vs. red, normally. Light red vs. dark red, not a chance in hell. Apply that to a security code deal, with letters and numbers with the same color as the background only in a different shade, and then it’s invisible.
Edit: I'm fine with traffic lights, that's interesting however hehe poor guy.
I like you Brad and I want you to be able to contribute. What I don't want is to have to delete a million spam comments per day. I am sure there is a better solution out there. The only question is how to implement it such that it includes 100% of users we want while blocking 100% of the ones we don't. No easy task.
Unfortunately, for the time being, I would suggest pasting the image and tweaking the colors until it becomes readable. In the mean time, will ask and see if we can find a better, non color sensitive method of preventing spam users.

Xzin,
I pretty much figured it wouldn’t be changed. I mean coming from the majority point of view its fine, affective what you need it for. I understand where most are coming from and that’s fair. Plus I think I hate spam just as much as the next guy. No worries nothing personal, I know. :P
I had to say something because with my disability it’s that much of a feat for me to get on here without the help of others. In time maybe a different or even better system might be found. Until then I will continue to steer all Dual-boxing fans that contact me to the community as even with the *cough flaws hehe, it’s unmatched with quality because of the community.

on a side note bradster, i just watched my first 2 episodes of dexter yesterday, great show!

is there a way to set up the question stuff? I have seen many forums recently ask questions like "Whats 2 + 2?" or "What game do we play?" etc

Xzin, I have to ask though, why is it required for logging in? Shouldn't it be only required for setting up a new account?

Thanks :DCompletely agree with this, CAPTCHA sucks. While I don't have any problem with colors, I do have very bad eyes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retinitis_pigmentosa), and I face the exact same problem as you do with CAPTCHA. Even the problem you describe below, with moving the camera to see icons, I have the same problem. I really hope we can basish CAPTCHA from the login, why is it there anyway? On the registration I can understand, but why on the login?
Well, CAPTCHAs can be broken so making it as hard (for the time being) for spammers to join would be the goal.
Why not a system that askes you questions about the implicit properties of an object? Something a computer would not know but a basic English speaker would know?
Nonsensical stuff that a computer can't just parse or memorize a list of and answer (at least for a few years).
What is the color of sadness? (Blue)
What does the A stand for in EULA? (Agreement)
What is the flavor or sweat? (Salty)
What is the worst class in WoW? (Paladin)
Complete the sentence: World of _____. (Warcraft)
Complete the word: Mul(__)boxing. (ti)
Etc..... :whistling:

In regards to a few previous comments and questions,
I assume the CAPTCHA is there to stop people from trying to sign into someones account with a wrong password thus making it inactive.

CAPTCHA is meant to prevent people from automatically registering to the forums and posting spam. I've never seen it for logging in.

CAPTCHA has been disabled for logins but remains for registeration.
If any issues with spam it will be enabled again.

I want to agree how much I fucking HATE these things. As someone who is visually impaired/legally blind and uses Windows Magnifier to use a computer everytime I see one of those boxes I want to smash all my monitors.
Fortuantly I have my own PC at work and it never seems to log me out.

Why not implement something along the line of asking the user to pick out a certain picture?
say for instance "pick out the square" and have a pick of 5 different shapes.
or "pick the object with 4 sides"
or ask "whats the word in 2 paragraph 3 sentence 5 word in the sentence" and grab some random text from somewhere
Basically implementing any kind of custom "captcha" turing test what ever yeh wanna call it
will avoid 99.9% of all the automated spamming due to the fact that someone will have to go out of there
way to figure it out and then create a program specifically for it to automate the spamming.
