View Full Version : [WoW] Low FPS in 2nd WoW client

Hey all,
New multiboxer here, and having some issues..

Running 2 clients, and it's difficult for the 2nd character to follow the 1st.
Why?
The 2nd client experiences MAJOR FPS drops while it's not in-focus & running in the background. I would of thought that "Max Foreground/Background Settings" would of solved this, but it simply doesn't.. If I alt-tab between both WoW clients, I notice that the FPS on the non-focused client is SUPER low until I tab onto it, bringing it back onto focus.

It's making it very cumbersome to multibox.. the 2nd character is constantly "rubberbanding", and is actually slower than the main character due to the low FPS/lag. Even if the 2nd character is on a mount, it fails to keep up with the 1st character on foot.

I almost feel like it's a PC setting, somehow attempting to conserve CPU usage on an app which isn't in focus.. I am 100% certain my PC is capable of running two WoW clients, rocking a RTX 2060, 32GB RAM & 9th gen i7...

Any ideas on what's going on?

I appreciate the help!

I would verify in game settings and also check to see if either your video card software or other software is throttling. I don't know if windows power settings has any options you may want to check but I would make sure sure everything is in full/max power setting until you resolve.

The only other 3rd party software that I know for sure which can do that (besides ISboxer which is banned for WoW these days) would be MSI Afterburner and it's associated RIVA Tuner. Basically I would make sure that and any other 3rd party software is turned off until you resolve it.

Good luck. Please report back if/when you find what is causing your issue.

I appreciate the response. I had my hopes up when you mentioned MSI Afterburner, but after disabling MSI Afterburner and associated RIVA tuner, I was faced with the same problem. I went through all my running processes, and ended all tasks not associated with either WoW or windows. I'm still having the same problem.. Really quite bizarre. I have no idea what is causing this, but it sure makes it difficult to box. :(

I have significantly reduce the graphics quality of both clients, and it seems to of alleviated the problem.. to an extent. I notice that the second client is still around 10FPS or so while not in focus.
I feel that with my computer stats, I should have no problem running two clients at decent graphical settings.
I think it must be some strange setting in my PC which is limiting background programs from running at their full potential.

You can do this semi-non-invasively by adding a new boot device and install and test with it or maybe via setting up a dual boot (though I haven't setup dual-boot of 2 versions of windows).

You could also try a full reset of your current windows install or re-install over your current setup and test and then restore your data though that is more invasive.
