Hi everyone,

in case you are interessted, i want to keep a small report about the progress of my 5 female UD Locks-Team.
The whole team is independent, no powerleveling, no twinking. Never bought anything in AH - all quests, instances, items etc. done only with this team from lv 1.

Current Status:
Lv 31
Specc: 21 Affli up to Syphon Life - now going Demo up to Soul Link
Equip: 80% blue items due to boss drops or instance quests

Inis clear:
- Ragefire (lv18 )
- Wailing Caves (lv 19)
- Shadowfang (lv 20)
- Blackfathom Deeps (lv 25)
- Razorfen Kraul (Lv 30)

going for Scarlet Monastary Graveyard next.
I am mixing in some questing to spice up the gameplay.

Battle Tactics:
Pets: 4 Voids, 1 Imp
I use Keyclone and have Pet attack on round robin. So usually i send in the first Void - then i use Syphon Life, Curse of Agony and Corruption on the same mob. Switching to second mob, send in next Void - Life Tap, 3 Dots and so on until all Elites are tanked. Like this 4 Elite Mobs are very easy, even 5-6 can be handled without even loosing a pet. In this case i let some Voids tank 2 and use drain life or wands to bring the additional mob down fast. After a group of mobs i use the self-heal on the Voids and usually have no downtime. I havent met a boss who could kill even one pet yet. Sometimes if i get adds due to patrols i have to throw in a Health Funnel to keep the pets going. Mana is no problem due to the multiple syphon lifes ticking in and the occassional drain life.
The key for successful void-tanking is to let each void only tank one Elite at a time. Because the damage is coming in slowly due to the dots the voids never loose aggro until i start drain life - usually it breaks after 3-4 ticks but the mob is below 10% health at that time anyway.

I hope this will work even in instances later in the game. As i am progressing in the demon-tree now i will soon have improved Voidwalker to make his taunt more effective.

How simple is it to control those? Basically when ignoring the pets do all simply target the same enemy and use the same spells all the time or is there more micromanagement?

I'm really interested to know what can you do with four voidwalkers in heroic instances. I almost went with the same setup as you but in the end still went with the regular tank-healer-3dps combo.

Control is rather easy. I target with mouseclick only as TAB mostly is too risky due to lag - first i tried tabbing for targets my pets spread over the whole instance and dozens of Elites rickrolled my butt. So i figured out: never TAB for targets in crowded places. I activate the healthbars (standard "v" key) to be able to click on them when it gets crowded around my toons. Then i wait for about 1 second to compensate any lag and then i round-robin my next void (i have the imp out of the petattack-circle). Usually i have to press the "petattack" macro key twice always - maybe a lag issue.

Once your toons assist you properly you only hit your dot-keys and thats it. The good thing on locks is, that you can spread your damage on 4-5 mobs by cycle through them and dot away ... so you will have an awesome high damage output and still generate very few aggro. Not to mention the health recovery of multiple syphons ticking in. In emergency use a drain life and you will get so much health so fast, it is possible to outlast 2 elites attacking your toon for a while. I have pet-heal synched for all locks, so i dont bother what pet is in need of heal, they will all heal their pet if necessary - as this is only the case when things get rough it anway requires multiple pets to be healed. I have Fear on round robin too, but i usually never use it inside an instance.

Yesterday in Kraul i could easily draintank a trash-mob elite with my main. The mob had the usual 15 dots ticking thus giving my life drain a 60% bonus. The mob hit me with 60 damage and i ticked my drain for 54 health - plus 3 additional syphon lifes coming in, i was actually even healing while tanking. In some rare cases i would have to switch to a toon to drop a healing potions or healing stone, but - except for looting - i even have all the toon-windows minimized as i dont need them.

I dont know, if a trained void will be able to tank heroics - even a single one - long enough later. I may even switch to felguards, not sure yet. The only real threat to my toons are heavy aoe-ing bosses that will bring my pets down fast. Or any kind of curse on my toons, as i have no dispel or anything like this.

Even with skilled dmg reduction and even if tanking a single one? How much harder is a heroic elite compared to a usual elite in dps and health?

Oh ... well ... ;(
I guess i am going PvP for Equipment then

btw. Yesterday i found a nice way to farm multiple mobs 1 or 2 levels below. I went to a mob-heavy area, chained round-robin-attacked the mobs with my pets until all mobs of an area had aggro on one of my 4 Voids - then i put my pets to "passive" - made them come back to me with all those mobs on them - and then i did 5 x Hellfire AoE and within 4 Seconds all the Mobs where dead 8) so AoE Farming with Pets could be fun with Locks.

have you considered having one of your locks cast Curse of Weakness? and then when you get to level 44 having a different lock cast Curse of Shadows?

Weakness should help a bit for the void tanking stuff he's not supposed to be able to tank - infact, i would make sure that for the lock casting weakness to spend the talent points to get improved.

im considering a setup like this, but moreso for endgame pve, I've started 4 locks and a priest at the moment but havnt got the time to level them and still enjoy my shaman/druid combo.
I could see locks really ripping up kara and the likes of za and anything inbetween.
