View Full Version : Something wrong with my graphics

So my system is a beast. 64 megs ram, 12 core, nvidia titan x pascal, yadda yadda. I can run 18 instances of EQ2 on this system at medium reso and EQ2 is very graphic intensive. I run 5 windows in WoW BFA. Full screen on my main and then 4 on other screen. If I set everything to 1, then go back to my main one and increase those settings to say like 7, the 4 set to 1 lag or slideshow noticeably. Not horrible but bad enough to impact gameplay. This absolutely should not be happening. My friend who’s system is significantly inferior can run his 4 on one screen at like 5 and his main on 10 with zero lag or slideshow.

I do fresh boots.
No background programs running (that I know of)
my graphics card is set to use the settings of the game graphics settings.

but again, if something were wrong I wouldn’t be able to run 18 instances of EQ2 without a hitch or ANY lag.

since I am brand new to WoW. What could I be missing? I use isboxer and it sets frame rates (I think). Could it be direct x setting since they have 3 different ones? I just don’t know. Help! The whole point in spending that much on a system is for running ultra quality!!

1. What sort of lag, does it only happen when you switch from 1 character (main) to a slave??

2. You want to run all on direct-x 11 legacy tbh.

3. What sort of cpu strategy are you using?

4. Settings 7 is "the old ultra settings": try assign 4 cores to the main game.
(start on settings 1 and work your way up, to see what your system will do, thats suitable to you).
Does the cpu has 12 proper cpu cores, or is it a 6 core with 12 threads? Name of cpu?

5. Changing certain settings comes with a penalty: watch this if you havent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiyDPf7DCRs

*There have been two updates to the CVars in Battle for Azeroth: SSAO & Shadows. Please see the link in the video description for the full thread on dual-boxing.

6. Launch each game and doublecheck that they are all on settings 1 + on direct-x 11 legacy. Save, then relaunch each game to see if changes got changed. Also: make sure that under grafixcard, in the wow settings and in the nvidia control panel, that it is set to use your named gpu, spesically.

Are the fps set to max 60 fps foreground / 25 fps background in isboxer??
Is this 1080p? Maybe try also use window mode or fullscreen(window mode).

Try disable EMA questtracker. If you use it.

Lacking many details here... so this is pure guesswork... :p

.... should not be happening.

Just as background about why you need to use DirectX 11 Legacy

WoW was recently improved to add multithreaded GPU rendering. Actually a misnomer because it's the rendering control processes on the CPU that became multithreaded. Each of those extra rendering processes now each take their own block of VRAM. Since patch 8.1 Wow-DX12 will happily eat 4GB VRAM or more. So even tho your card is expensive and super fast, 12GB it is not enough for 5 toons. When it runs out, each instance starts swapping to main DRAM which causes the lag. Initially the fix was to use DX11 which used a more reasonable amount of VRAM, but then they added multithreading to that too. Luckily they introduced a DX11legacy setting which works like the pre-8.1 DX11

:)

Damn, that is crazy... Thank you for the comments. Switched to DX11 Legacy and all is fine.

Is there something I can do in game to see FPS?
