View Full Version : [WoW] Do we think we could ask for /follow to be re-enabled for PvP or to at least fix it?

I'm sure a Blizz developer reads this forum from time to time. We are usually a positive bunch :)

I've struggled between two teams and I realized why - because one of them can sort of function in PvP (5x Druids) and the other is a big ol mess when pvp is flagged (any team with pets).

The 25% war bonus is really hard to pass up when out and about in the field, so not having war mode on feels off.

If you're looking at this you good ol' Blue developer you. Just turn it back on for World access. I've had my fun in BG's, and Arenas, and while I do miss that I think our population is small enough and mature enough that the majority of us don't intend to ruin anyone elses fun.

and... if you give a mouse a cookie even having a discussion for turning it back on for Arenas /BG would be .. amazing. Because again 3 unique players > 1 boxer.

And lastly!! If both of these objectives fall through, at least turn on IWT(interact with target) for all classes, or at least be able to define how it is used. I think anyone would prefer attempt to run in and melee instead of stopping at Bow/Wand range and not turning around to face your target.

Thank you for reading. I know you're out there and you make a great game.

While I too prefered having /follow in any PVP context, I doubt anything will happen to change the situation. As you stated, we're a very small niche group and appeasing us, plausible at the expense of others players' experience is not a high priority. As you said, mostly we have people who would keep things proportionate, but as ween seen before it only takes a few people at the other end of that spectrum to tip the balance to the point where they originally though something needed to change. And with WoW being free to play for those willing to commit the time, the barrier to entry to that territory is lower than ever before. That isn't to say that the follow removal has stopped PVP enturely, but unless you want to stack a bunch of DKs and healers, it's pretty pointless.

The IWT fix I would love to see, but again since there is no outcry for it outside of our community, I doubt development resources will be used on it.

I assume follow will remain as-is. Not ideal, but I think it's a fair compromise.

I dont see follow ever coming back for pvp. I could see them fixing IWT though.

I have been playing 2 or 3 in bgs/arena for years now. Just using 3 person mount when out of combat. I got used to it over time and actually prefer it now on my melee teams. Only limit is 2-3 characters.

In world pvp, if you are playing 5, I would just play druids. However, hunters with the inscription blood contract boar tear thru stuff in world pvp since bestial wrath affects it. Its like having an extra dps character per hunter.

Wow I never knew about these inscription pieces.

IWT is probably the biggest thing they could fix as it helps many more outside of our community beyond us and it is kind of odd that it's functional for some classes and not others.

Off topic

Very few people know about them. Inscription is an unsexy profession, but just like engineering its the best for world pvp.

The melee contract is the best and if it dies it respawns in a few seconds. I have had the contract pet alone do 15K dps with a bm hunter and its aoe. World pvp is a non-issue for bm hunters, even solo with the bloodshed blood contract.

Only issue is when flying. The pet stays on the ground aggroing everything as you fly, its funny but just be prepared. Also, its only good out in the world, it despawns inside any instance.

i read this and just got sad cause i know they wont ever do it, it doesnt benefit them in any way and our numbers are too small.

its quite amazing that this change dates back ashran, the worst pvp area in the worst expansion in the games history where the guy in charge already left (or got to leave whatever) and we still suffer under his bs design. Its almost like a pr stunt to boost his rep by disabling multiboxers/bots after the community gave some devastating feedback on his work. Because honeslty, even with zero bots that expansion would've been shit.

Anyway, I hope one day they will figure out how get rid of bots without having to disable follow in certain areas (even though it does absolutely nothing to them)

I suppose our best hope is to wait for classic tbc/wotlk and cross fingers for follow to be enabled in arenas. So you could still grind your pvp in bgs withouth follow and then take it to 5v5, which is quite popular especially in tbc

It annoys me that we miss out out. Regardless of how miserly the cost is for the sub. War mode sold me in BFA, so the shutdown of follow during combat was a dead feature to me.
Its not like its hard to defeat a boxer by fearing their lead account and a coordinated group on voice chat can easily replicate our tagetting and hard hitting abilities.

woukd be nice to get follow back.

When they removed combat /follow in warmode they couldnt have been more blatant that they were targeting multiboxers specifically in pvp. If it were because of bots, they would have did the same in non-warmode. Someone working at blizzard today doesnt like us. Hopefully they are gone soon and the new expansions and patches just leave it out and let us play.

My guess is it's the same person who removed 5v5

To play devil's advocate, they could've entirely removed /follow when War Mode was enabled, but they didn't. Presumably, it was more work to jump through the hoops that they did to keep it, since an outright removal would've likely been much easier to accomplish, just like in battlegrounds.

I haven't played in a while but I notice you guys talking about IWT issues. Did they change IWT somehow with ranged classes? It used to work fine for me when I boxed 5 hunters during early bfa.

yes.. when in PvP combat you can not IWT on enemy targets for all ranged classes.. which i think sucks..im supersized they have not broke it for melee as well.

On my hunters i always make sure i dont loot any mobs until im ready to leave that area.. good PvP players know hunters can not chase them if they are boxed toons.. so i use corpses to get back in range if they run away..you can IWT corpses for looting even if active PvP

Years back when the /follow issue first came up I left a suggestion with them that would work for us.

1. Reenable /follow everywhere for toons on the same battle.net account.
2. Add scaling penalties for each concurrent character on the same battle.net account. Like damage nerfs as more toons get added.

This way you could choose the penalty as-is which is loss of follow on your deathball or have all /follow functionality back in all content with scaling penalties the more you have. Such that with 8 concurrent sessions you might be doing 2/3rds the damage you currently do.

Ideally you should be able to dual box and have no penalties anywhere. It's just short sighted to punish a dual boxer the same as a 40 boxer.

So, I am leveling some Hunters right now with WM on. When I do encounter some horde, does targeting work the same as if it were a normal mob; and the only thing that gets disabled is /follow?

That is correct, this happens with all classes. It’s just amplified with hunters. I think it has something to do with the pets. If your using animal companion for 2 pets it’s even further amplified. The follow being broken just lasts a really long time after combat has ended.

I understand this conversation is mostly pertaining to retail. But at the moment all classic battlegrounds seem to have a super high % of bots running 24x7. Not that I don't want to be able to PvP with my own crew, but I think Blizz needs to focus on cracking down even more at the moment.
