I would love to skip skip collection quests but I don't know if it is wise since I'll be missing out on followup quests.

only in classic wow, not on retail. Retail collection quests are very boxer friendly now, i think any mob that drops a quest item for one character will also give one to every party member so it's just as good as soloing.

The only quests i would skip on retail are the quests that remove you from group and force you to solo in a different phase, but sometimes those quests tend to be necessary and you have to do them for each character.

I just did a quest where I had to collect 60X5 creeper eggs off bears. I had to do it for each character.

oh yikes, is that the gross southshore quest? If it's the same one or similar to the one im thinking of you have to click the eggs to get them and not from a corpse. I think you get around 3-7 per bear. I think you can even just cc the bears and get the eggs. I think i remember being able to IWT the eggs on my slaves, but im not sure. Not the most boxer friendly, but it's much much better than it used to be and luckily those types of quests are few and far between.

Yes, I skip them unless they lead to a really good quest chain. You can make up the lost quest XP pretty easily by running an instance an extra time or three. I prefer quests vs instance grind but even classic doesn't need to be done to 100% completion just to level. There are benefits (rep, etc.) but they usually aren't worth the time, for me at least.

[edit] My comment applies to both classic and retail, though with retail's much lower XP requirements per level, it takes even less quest coverage.

That must be great to know that. I have no idea what the quests lead to.

www.wowhead.com

search the quest there, and it will also tell you the next/previous quests in the chain and the rewards.

I used to look up quest chains there. At some point they seem to have stopped showing chains or they are showing it in a way that I can't find them.

I skip almost all collection quests unless it is a gatekeeper for an important followup. There are a few but not many Cleansing Felwood is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

That works but if a slave that has completed the quota then IWT them they kill the eggs instead. Same for the saving the critters in Cata :/

Works OK here. Check adblock/noscript like addons and make sure you're not causing javascript errors. Do you see the Vile Familiars prerequisites in https://classic.wowhead.com/quest=805/report-to-senjin-village or no?

[edit] Sometimes you'll need to read the comments to see what else the quest unlocks.

I see the chain in the page you linked. But there are lots of quests where I don't see the chain. Like this one:

Fair enough. GIGO applies as it's a community effort. ;)

I didn't know that. I always assumed it was datamined.

I am not familiar with that quest myself, but just because a specific quest isn't available until another was completed doesn't mean it's part of a chain, and, if I'm not mistaken, questlines that have a story to them (e.g. Missing Diplomat, Morbent Fel, the introduction to most dungeons, etc.) are the only ones considered to be a chain. Otherwise, it's just a quest that isn't offered until something else has been completed. If quests weren't portioned off like this, then every NPC would just offer everything they had, all the time, and it'd probably feel pretty lazy.

Now that I have Loremaster, I skip gathering quests that are annoying, and tend to bounce back and forth between dungeons and questing. Before I had it, I just put on some high energy music and treated gathering quests like a grind and it wasn't too bad.
