View Full Version : Best 5 Box for Raiding?

So I've seen tons of discussions on dungeon runs and pvp, but what about raids? What are peoples thoughts or experiences they have had with trying to box on raids?

What group comps and roles seem like you could bring the most benefit to the raid while being able to play your role at the maximum efficiency? It feels like tanking would most definitely be out and healing seems like it would be pretty difficult since it seems like it would be hard to focus on healing more than one target at a time where multiple non-boxed healers could be split up between different groups.

Maybe that just leaves something like trying to dps with a group of warriors, mages or locks on a raid?

Warriors would be terrible imo. Managing 5 rage bars effectively + posiitoning melee would be a real struggle.
Mages or warlocks you pretty much spam 1 button and positioning ranged isn't a problem.
When your rotation is a single button playing 5 acc is pretty much the same as playing 1. (if you don't consider actual raid mechanics, which are pretty simple pre AQ)

5 mages or 4 mages+healer is likely the most ideal (and if you brought a healer ideally you would be the healer assigned to the caster team and keep them together).

Locks would be second place and harder to fit as typically there are less spots in raids for locks than there are for mages.

Once ZG hits locks are as viable as mages with the hit gear available. Mages would be easiest to level and grind with, but the locks would thrive in world PvP

Cant comment on whats "best" as i'm new to multi-boxing, and have only experience with one comp... but I can provide feedback that I have been able to adequately perform in MC/ONY with 4M1P. Priest performance is low on meters... but we are stacked a bit on heals.

Yesterday logs below. A bit skewed as we were 10 people short cause holidays, and we still ran things...

I'm the "meowXXX" in the logs. Meowadin is winter chill spec'd, and I currently don't run consumables on them. Second week of raiding. Play has a huge amount of room for improvement, as again im very new to multiboxing... but to me it shows its a viable choice.

Thanks for the feedback, as much as I feel like mages wold be more beneficial, I just cant seem to get past wanting to play locks, always loved locked and not really cared for mages. Kinda kicking around the scenario in my heal then of trying to raid with 4 locks + 1 priest and having my priest go shadow instead of healing if I manage to secure slots for all 5.

I think Locks are OK now and catch up quite a bit once ZG is out. I am not 100% sure but with locks I think you want your priest to shadow-weave but still give them heals for life-tapping. You may get more mileage out of a priest boosting the locks rather than doing much DPS himself.

That being said it is kinda hard not to be jealous of ignite stacks in later phases. ;-)

The ignite stacking thing bothers me if it works the way I think it does. Thought I read something that only one mage at a time will get credit for it on the parses instead each mage's being tracked individually.

If you were in a very boxer friendly guild, hunters would work too, and if they let you have 5-6 debuffs slots, you'd be able to boost every hunter in the raids AP by like 650. Which is, a lot.

Is that just from stacking different ranks of hunters mark? I only see 4 ranks, how are you getting to 650AP? Can you do something like put 0 to 5 points into improved hunter mark and then all cast the max rank one and get it to stack too?

Yes. If you do like 0/5 1/5 etc all the way up through the hunters mark talent, and you cast it all at once, at the same time, it stacked. I haven't heard that it's been fixed, so I imagine it still works like that atm.

If that hunters mark trick works, my up and coming secondary team is going to be happy. We do mc splits 25 man so getting the rebuff slots isn't an issue.

I had to do a double take when I looked at the hunter pets and saw the wolf ability, it boosts the next attack of everyone in the party by about 50 on a 10 sec CD. With 5 hunters and 5 pets, that's 500 x 5 = 2500 dmg every 10 sec

No guild is going to let you take 30% of their debuff slots for some ranged AP :P

What if you have a hunter heavy raid??? 600+ ap for every hunter would be the equivalent of like AQ gear for MC for those hunters.

Yes, putting furious howl into your DPS rotation on round robin, will be pretty damn nice dps boost.

I guess "no guild" was an overstatement, but it's still only going to bring a hunter from a B grade DPS to A grade at the cost of splitting the same loot between 25 or so of the same class, then all 40 people are going to have to raid like they are going for records (aka restorative pots and top of the line DPS to avoid curses) when they could never reach that goal of topping records, it would be like 40 man Priest Ony, a gimmick and then quickly nerfed.
