Blizzard has announced that, as part of the level squish, Demon Hunters and Death Knights will start at level 1 in Shadowlands, instead of level 98 and 55 respectively.

Their original starting zone experiences will still be available as optional starting experiences.

May be time to make one if needed

It's an odd decision, for sure, as both classes are considered "Hero" classes, and they should really start at like level 20 or something like that to, somewhat, retain that status.

As a side note, you can currently use Retail's Party Sync feature to drop either class down to the lower levels. It's useful if you've created a team that is currently "filling in the blank" with throwaway characters until it reaches that level range where the higher-level class would normally join up with the rest of the party.

dont even have to level it, just create it and when shadowlands is patched in you'll be max level 50 like everyone else.

I think they are going to do your level divided by 2.4 to get what your level will be in Shadowlands.
So almost lvl 23 for the DK and almost lvl 41 for the DH.
This info may be wrong but it was the consensus on guessing I've read so far.

Did read the same - taken from wowhead

Speculation: Right now, a level 120 to 50 conversion translates to 2.4 levels in BfA to 1 level in Shadowlands, so if it's a straight conversion, you'd divide your current level by 2.4. A level 70 character would translate to 29.17, which would probably mean level 29 plus a 17% toward 30. But again, we don't know the formula yet.

I went ahead and leveled my Dh's 5x for Shadowlands and rest of Bfa. In order to counter squish, I decided I'll put in more time to Bfa.

Given that the anniversary gives 15% xp and rep plus 10% more xp with bfa pots and heirlooms, I leveled from 98 to 120 just under 18 hours played (17 hours and 50 minutes or so). Usually, 45 mins per level. I do have flying and know the horde quests inside out so wasn't problem.

Overall, I'd definitely suggest leveling right now so you can take advantage of those anniversary buffs. Especially, if you have Darkmoon Faire on December 1st or so when it comes, you'll just steamroll thru levels regardless of what class. Don't forget, if you're leveling a brand new class from lv1 the Draenor part also has 20% added xp, so that's 200% xp almost. Just total domination :)

Just something to think about if you're planning to go retail/currently deciding to level up.

I'm sorry I don't think I understand, can you explain or provide a link? Thanks!

Heirlooms give you 45% extra xp. Bfa pot gives you 10% extra xp. Anniversary buff gives you 15% xp and 15% reputation from all sources.
When you reach Draenor and make your garrison you can trade the Draenor cache resource for extra 20% xp gain that works in Draenor so you can steam roll through Draenor Expansion.

I'd recommend actually leveling in that zone, beacuse on launch, you will be able to choose your expansion. Meaning you will be able to level 1-50 ultra fast if they dont' remove that pot :)

This combined with all the other stacking is what I was missing. Thank you for clarifying. Didn't really play much at all after MoP so this was totally lost on me.

Remember you need a lv. 120 on that account to choose the expansion zones you wanna lv. in - else you are stuck to:

1-10: Exile's Reach (new newbie zone for all players)

10-50: Battle for Azeroth

50-60: Shadowlands

you can only pick your expansion ( at lvl10 ) after you have one character to 60..if not...new players will do 10-50 in BFA ( no choice )

I think it will be account bound instead bnet licence. I'd suggest buying shadowlands epic version, get 120 boost, use boost on anything and then steam roll thru rest of toons or w/e way you find efficient to level up clean team or 4 extra.

Or, if you're extra gifted with money, buy 5x epic versions and gg :)

Epic ($80) and heroic ($60) both come with the boost. Just get one epic if you care about the pet, mount and transmog stuff, and the rest heroic.

They said leveling from 1-50 will be close to 70% faster than current iteration of 1-120.
On top of all of this you get to pick where you want to level, which I think is going to make this part of the game quite enjoyable because it'll go quick and you can do it where you want.

Yeah I was spending considerable amount of time on retail, and I will probably finish my current team to 120 with some boosts for some alts. Given this information, I will probably take one team to 60 in Shadowlands, wait and see how the meta pans out, and build teams from there. In the meantime, maximize Classic as I'm sure by Shadowlands release there won't be much more to accomplish from a 5 man perspective.

I like the planned leveling options so I'll actually be leveling whole new teams just to enjoy it! And who doesn't love starting new teams??!! ;)

Just incase any missed it, and subsequent question for anyone who already prepurchased -

~~~
In-game items and Character Boost not available in World of Warcraft® Classic, and Character Boost usable only on the WoW game account on which it was purchased or redeemed as a gift
~~~

So you cant buy the xpac on account 1, and then boost account 2...

Has anyone purchased the xpac already and checked if you can use the transmog from the prepurchase on your other accounts toons?

You can use the transmog on your other accounts on your bnet.
