Now that i got my WMMMP team geared with all the pre raid bis items and farmed all consumes and cash I'm looking to start a 2nd team. Due to grievance of alliance / horde imbalance on my server ive decided that my second team should be able to handle itself in world pvp and have as little complexity as possible (meaning same class teams, although a healer for a 5th is probably a good choice). Admittingly id roll 5x elemental shamans if I was horde, 5x affliction warlocks isnt bad at all either and 5x Hunter team is apex, im looking into rolling a team of 5x ret paladins.

The idea is to use Repentance to catch up anything at range and just keep them stunned until they are dead. If I get into a furball the idea is to get Earthshaker, which already is a free roll in my guild and it has a very high drop chance, to keep everything manageable and have engineering on everyone. I know every team is likely viable, but anyone see any glaring weaknesses?

I swear I started playing classic with the intent to be not overly agressive in world pvp to not abuse my multibox advantage, but the faction imbalance and dislike for multiboxers has taken its toll

Which PVP server are you on and what do you think the faction balance is like?

What do you mean 5xHunter team is "Apex" (I don't understand the reference)?

If your PVP is mainly in close quarters like in front of instances and what not then I think Paladins can be a good PVP team but I would have concerns with being kited or with groups of multiple players surrounding your at max range and picking you apart if in the open world. Repentance can help a litte with kiters but it only has a 20 yard range so really your only option is going to engineering and that can be unreliable and has cooldowns... If you are (or can get) good at anticipating enemy movement and throwing/timing explosives well then you may have better luck than most.

Personally if you are Alliance I think Warlocks+Priest makes the most sense in the widest array of scenarios. If you are going to be an aggressor then Mages can make sense as well.

I'm playing on Firewmaw EU, the faction balance is subjectively quite skewed towards Horde by anecdotal observation of BRM activity.

It's a wordplay, an apex hunter is an animal who has nobody hunting it, they are on top of the food chain. As far as I see it, multiboxing negates their disadvantage of deadzone / melee range by advantage of mass. Between feign + traps / grenades, trinkets, pets and hunters being ok-ish in melee, losing in melee should only happen when you meet a group you would have lost to anyway.

The range on repentance was a bit of a shock, I could have sworn it was 30 yards, but with engineer tools (5x gnome nets, has a 30 yard range) and blessing of freedom it should still be viable

If you are mainly fighting inside BRM Paladins may be really nice due to the enclosed areas.

For WPVP 4 Night Elf Hunters + Druid would give you a full ambush stealth team and 1 mobile stealth scout. You would have to use prowling cats if you want your hunters to be able to remain stealthed while they attack (4 big red kittys out of nowhere is kinda funny) otherwise you will have to summon pets that cannot stealth themselves. I can't remember for sure but you may be able to summon and resealth pretty quick (or cast Beastial Wrath and re-shadowmeld pretty quick)... I guess worst case you can just feign death while the pets chew things up... Been a long time but I had lots of fun with that in Vanilla->WoTLK... It can be pretty fun especially with a class that is good at kiting like the druid as you can kite some folk into ambushes in addition to just waiting at a choke point or other spot.
