View Full Version : Anyone able to get @Cursor and @Player macros working for Ground Target AOE?

Not sure if this is in the right section since it's related to classic but also related to UI/Macro issues.
I watched a video by MiRai discussing Ground Target AOE and followed the instructions, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=PsAIukHgWgo) but despite by best efforts I still can't cast Flamestrike either @cursor or @player. If I ditch the /cast [@cursor] or the /cast [@player] and just use flamestrike, the cursor syncs and the cast goes off fine. It's just the hassle of having to manually target that I'm hoping to avoid.
In other words, as a new multiboxer who's trying to manage a lot as is, I would like to start my rotation with a simple flamestrike that will cast where I have my tank's mouse or at the very least where my mages are standing, without having to have my mouse hijacked. Heals can be tough during AOE pulls so if I have to use my mouse cursor to target an AOE, it stops me from healing for a few precious moments.
I've read conflicting views as to whether the WoW Classic macro system supports these @cursor or @player conditionals, so I thought I'd consult the experts here and see if anyone has been able to use these type of macro's successfully? If so, I can dig more into diagnosing where my setup has gone wrong. The mousesync seems to work fine and I even get a cursor icon, but flamestrike won't get casted with the @ conditionals.

I too would like to know if those are possible. Spamming AE works well but my 4 mage/priest team are taking a beating being up close and Blizzard from a distance sounds really nice. ZF 45 elites now seem to be hitting much harder than In SM.

Unless you're referring to old posts from before the actual launch of Classic, there shouldn't be any conflicting views because you can write the macro out for yourself, in game, to see that it works.
However, we don't have the full context for what you're trying to do other than to just "cast it," so we're probably going to need some additional information as to how you're trying to use it.

Apologies I should have been more clear and detailed. The conflicting views I was referring to were from pre-classic posts. I hadn't seen anything confirming that those type of macros worked, and for me they don't work, so I was hoping for clarification before I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out where I went wrong. I now know they do in-fact work for others, so I messed something up with my setup!
The video is excellent and every other one I've watched has lead me to a perfectly working config. In this case for some reason I can't get flamestrike to cast @cursor or @player.
What I'm trying to do is a) cast flamestrike at my mages feet by using
/cast [@player] Flamestrike.
EDIT: Turns out I added a ; at the end and it now appears to be working. Apparently I need to pay attention to macro details!

I use this everyday and it works fine
/stopmacro [channeling]
/cast [modifier,@player] Presence of Mind
/cast [modifier,@player] Flamestrike
/cast Arcane Explosion
I open with Shift the key (7 for me) which does instant Flamestrike on me, then spam 7 without shift for AEs

That's interesting because semi-colons are used in WoW macros to break them up when they're consolidated, and the macro in question still works just fine for me with that lone semi-colon at the end of it.
So, I couldn't tell you what you were doing wrong up to this point, but I'm glad it's fixed.

On second review I think I may have used a { curlies } instead of [ brackets ], like a real strugglebus. I thought the ; fixing it was odd and clearly that couldn't have been the case since it is a separator and it works for you irregardless. I assumed adding it did something since it began working, but I had erased the whole macro and started over; at which point I must have correctly typed the brackets lol. Only later while typing other macros did I have an error and realize it was typo related, so I'm guessing it was the same thing and I'm just too blind to have realized it.
In short, thanks for the help and sorry for the struggles! Moving right along now that I have easy AOE. Next step is to get some better glasses so I can see the difference between brackets and curlies lol.
On a sidenote, wtb: moor videos :D.
