Currently my alt warrior is lvl 13 and I'm running RFC. My booster is a 64 orc hunter. I'm working out rest xp on the hunter as it's accumulated. Obviously I'm not an AOE class so I've been just pulling mobs and having my pet finish them off. It works pretty good, without looting (or minimal) and I can clear it and reset in 15 mins. I was quest boosting the alt from lvl 1 (ungrouped from the hunter and pet) and if I had my 63 following the alt and the pet on aggressive I could tap the mob and the pet would finish it off netting around 10xp. The only problem with this was aggro radius, that and talented outdoor speed boost for pets. Basically the pet could would aggro and get to the mob prior to me tapping via melee because it could out run me. I didn't want to respec the hunter (I might though if I decide to quest boost) because I wasn't sure I'd be doing it for long. However, training bows/guns/crossbows would enable me to pull from range and tap the mob prior to the pet aggroing and outrunning me to kill it b4 I could tap it. I purchased Joana's leveling guide when I started my hunter and it is excellent, I know the routes and with pack aspect the travel time is reduced. That and I know the routes having done it. I thought that with the added xp from quests and mobs from 20-60 that it would be faster for me to boost via quests in lieu of instances given my class. I also figured that if I was shy levels from quest boosting I'd instance boost to make up for minimum level requirements for any new quest hub areas to be able to get the most quests possible. I'd be interested in hearing any1's thoughts on this or tips. Thanks.

Even though the hunter isnt really an AOE class, or level 70, you should use him to boost your lowbie alt through Deadmines, Stockades, RFC, and you might be able to handle SM. The XP is really great from going through instances like that.

Use the /petattack kill to boost!

Have someone group your lowbie, even if that person is in Shatt and level 70.

Have your warrior tag mobs his level of exp, up to +5 levels.

Now, have your Hunter assist but not attack himself, except for the pet.

Go to Interface option, UNcheck the Attack on Assist.
make a macro on hunter:
/assist (your warrior's name)
/petattack.

Make sure you are not grouped with your hunter.
But make sure your lowbie is grouped somehow, even with any low level noobs around; or with a level 70 no in xp range.
win!

Wonder if this would work if you used a shaman (or 4) instead of a hunter and used searing totems as the 'pet'. I'd try this now if I wasn't stuck at work.

win!Sanctume can you please explain to me what having an OOR person in group does for the low level character?

I remember in Everquest, there was an exploit for a while that if you were in a group, but out of range of the other PC's, you would still get the group XP bonus. So it was a fad for awhile for 6 people to group up, but everyone stayed completely spread out across the zone so no one was near each other. Everyone got a really really nice XP increase from the unshared group XP bonus.

Is it something similar to that?

One more thing, the server I'm on is a low population one so finding 3 other lowbies to group with sometimes isn't possible, hence a lower to no group bonus. This is why I was thinking about the aforementioned quest boosting. Either way given my scenario would it still be faster to boost via instances?

The way that works is a combo of pet-only damage not crediting the kill to the pet-owner (to avoid afk pet grinding), and that if you are grouped with any other character some "anti kill-steal" logic kicks in (which has morphed over the last couple years).

I think the reasoning is something along the lines of this:
If a high level toon is killing mobs that a low level toon as tagged it's likely power leveling, so cut exp gained by lower level by a lot.
If a high level toon is killing mobs that a group has tagged it might be griefing, so award exp to the group. and if there is only one group member in kill range it gets full exp.
If a high level toon is doing damage that is credited to them, and that amount of damage is greater than the damage dealt by the group of lower levels, cut exp some.
If high level toon uses a method of killing mobs that doesn't credit them with kill-damage (such as a pet, or totems) the percent damage done just by tagging the mob is enough to award full exp to the grouped lower level toon(s).

This works, and it works well, so well in fact I'm wondering is this account bannable?

I'm not sure but it seems to be on some sort of timer I think, now I'm getting 11xp vs about 110...ideas?

I'm not so sure anymore, seems buggy, back to the instances...
