Bit the bullet (3900x)

So after sitting idle for months not able to make up a mind for my new 5 box platform, the arguments between Intel vs AMD I saw the 3900x was back in stock so I jumped on it.

Total kit (minus GPU as I will keep my 1080ti) is 2200 USD.

I have finally decided this will be my 5 box platform for quite awhile. I'm genuinely curious to see if two free cores for the O/S plus 2 cores per each game instance will finally fix my hardware latency-related issues I've been seeing since BFA launched.

Everything should be here by Saturday but at latest expect Monday to be ready for testing. Considering windows updates and all.

As Ellay said, new stuff is always fun, especially when you enjoy building the machine yourself. However, I'd pay close attention to the RAM to see if you have any issues with it, since the latest AMD chips seem to be fussy about speeds on RAM that was manufactured prior to them being released. So much so, that G.Skill, and I'm sure some others, have begun creating a line-up of products that are specific to the new AMD Ryzen chips (https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007611%20601190328&srchInDesc=Neo&Order=BESTMATCH).

Also, I've edited the links in your original post because they had what looked to be referrals in there. Whether they were yours or some random internet site that you had previously visited (Amazon referral cookies sometimes stick around for awhile on your machine), I'd rather keep the links clean for others.

Once everything is here we'll get a better idea of the RAM compatibility with the chipset. I'm not looking for a miracle but my understanding is this (https://community.amd.com/thread/237823) forum post eventually had success with the combo.

Build isn't totally done yet. Got everything installed, AV, BIOS updates and chipset drivers.

OC was pretty easy with the BIOS updates. Performance mode gives 4.22GHz base speed so far stable. I need to test it more and see how the RAM is doing.

So far very pleased with this MB. Love the ROG crate app that tracks BIOS and driver updates. Very easy to use.

Finished results: Thoroughly impressed!

Stable at 4.22Ghz on all cores, got WoW loaded and innerspace setup was a breeze. Ran some world content on my 5 box crew with a 2/2/2/2/2/2 core config with 2 going to the OS.

To preface I was running a 6700K @ 4.3 Ghz prior. All cores for all instances. Nothing reserved for the OS. Since the BFA 8.0 launch I had odd issues with commands sometimes failing to trigger, or going halfway. Like a slot switch would process some of the minor things like a gfx adjustment and camera reset but nothing else would happen. Also keybinds getting stuck on slot switch as well.

This upgrade has been enormously impressive. First saving 2 cores for the OS means everything is smooth as glass and the slot switching functionality appears to be 100% failsafe now. I am positive that the increased multicore stress and/or my use of all core cpu strategy was limiting the thread pool for things like slot switching.

Secondly with an AIO Corsair cooler it never went above 55c degrees. Safe temps for 3900x are around 80-90c and I haven't even adjusted the cooler yet to performance mode.

Lastly it cannot be understated how smooth the game is now. Going from 4 cores to 12 on a 5 box crew is a really big deal and I can already see where it will improve my reaction times and control. It was actually a bit staggering to see how responsive everything was.

I highly, highly recommend this upgrade path to any 5 boxers looking.

Nice. I'm still waiting a bit to see what happens with the 10xxx Intel chips price-wise but I'm definitely looking forward to upgrading and finally having enough cores to run dedicated cores per client.

60 fps front, 30 back?

How far are you able to max the ingame gfx settings on the main/lead character?

Are you using a slot swap gfx macro? (slaves on min settings)

At present running a 3440x1400 * 5 resolution.

60 front and 30 back.

The master can handle the clip far range at max, I usually run at 7 and 8 seemed to be no problem.

My slot swap does not include the GFX swap because I often swap in combat. I have the GFX swap on another macro.

My GFX macro sets renderscale to 0.50 for the back windows.

Rooms like the portal room in Org are smooth as glass. Even looking at the portals seems smoother on the new machine suggesting to me that portal rendering is at least partially CPU.

So mythics are current going swell. My new team is BDK + RSM + BM + DESTRO + WW. Just did a level 4 underrot in 18 minutes with no shroud. Did a temple in 30 minutes yesterday. Everything is responsive and smooth which is super helpful doing these. Good to see I'm already moving up the M+ ladder.
